Some Good Advice...... silly format.......2000-11-19

This book has a lot of good advice (albeit not great) and offers some ideas and help for the business traveler. But..... I agree with another reviewer that the format is unappropriate and at times frustrating.

I would much rather have the raw facts and advice and skip the cartoons.

Some of the advice in this book is just too silly and not worth the ink because hopefully all of us have basic common sense (i.e. don't get drunk at a clients....please!).

It's an interesting book if you can get past the silliness. There are good points that all business travelers should be aware of to help them suceed while on the road.

The cartoon-like format of this book is unfortunately an appropriate medium for the level of information it contains. The advice was at times ridiculously obvious (i.e. don't spill food on the person next to you on the plane, or don't get drunk at your client's home). What I found particularly frustrating, however, was an underlying thread of real, valuable expertise, which somehow never broke through the cutesy presentational style. I believe author Knitter really has the experience to share significant and helpful advice - but he didn't take the time or text-space to do it.

Rouising adventure.......2004-04-01

This is another book I am not exactly sure how to grade. It is very good book for a movie tie-in, but not great literature. I suppose I will grade it on it's own merrits. A trio of Arrkadian assasins are hired to kill a sorceress who is behind an evil rulers power. Two of the three Arkaddians are killed, but the youngest, Mathayus, survives and vows revenge. He kidnaps the sorceress (who just happens to be beautiful beyond compare) and aids in a revolt with a Nubian warrior's tribe backing him. It is basicly parts of Tarzan, Conan and a little bit of James Bond. The action is fast and easy to understand. All the characters are men's men types. The only thing I didn't exactly understand (and the movie didn't make it any clearer) was exactly when it took place, I guess it is some time just before the pheroes.

This book isn't bad, it follows the movie pretty well. But it doesn't give huge insights into anything, which is what I'd hoped for.

Young men will probably enjoy it well enough. For others that aren't complete die hard fans, skip this and read the Mummy books by the same author instead.

Action like the pulp magazines of yesteryear.......2002-04-26

I have never been disappointed in a Max Allan Collins novel. The Iowan is a capable writer who also has several mystery and adventure series under his belt. This venture simply adds to his reputation.

His novelizations resonate well with the source films and yet are enough different to warrant handing over a few bucks. You get more than a sorry re-hash of the movie; you get a great story teller who backgrounds you and spins a yarn as complex and compelling as anything on the screen.

The pace in book version *The Scorpion King* is wildly frenetic. Action is fast and furious, and enemies fall by the hundreds. Yet it's a fun ride. Mathayus is more fully developed as a character, albeit an action character. Mr. Collins gives Mathayus enough brains and brawn to get into, and out of, trouble. Plus Mr. Collins pays gentle homage to the first of the fictional warrior kings, Conan the Barbarian.

What a sequel! Conan the Barbarian meets The Scorpion King. . .

Highly recommended.

This book was great. Everything to make me want to see the movie. Adventure, Action, Comedy, A little bit of romance--yes, it was a great book. Completely orginal story. Frankly, I thought it would [be bad]. I thought how stupid, The Scorpion King? The only reason I was sightly intrested in it was because The Rock starred in it and it was kind of a Mummy Movie. Let me say, if the movie is anything like the book, it could possibly be the best movie in the Mummy series. This book is worth your time, you cannot be dissapointed, if you like the Mummy stuff.
