What you will come to know in several years can be assimilated in little time with this book written by the master. Because most people are going towards electronic trading, they are devoid of the emotions that people have witnessed in the trading pits. Often times, things that are percieved in a convoluted way are at the human level pychologically simple, and that is what this book is taking you towards. Everything good and nothing bad.

The best elaboration on Contrarian Theory I ever read.......2002-06-04

Ironically the low sales of the book (I inferred from the Amazon sales rank) tells the high value of it, if ones believes the contrary opinion theory, that conventional wisdom, usually the popular one, always put the majority/public to the wrong side.

The author had honestly and successfully delivered what one could grasp from the title: profiting by contrarion opinion (to be precise, bullish/bearish consensus) in futures markets. He explained why the futures market is a money game, why the minority always win, why conventional market wisdom (yeah, your analysts included) always fail...He did that so well. That's all I wanna say.

this book starts out giving the basics of the futures markets. the meat of the book is about bullish consensus which i found very interesting. the author states this isn't a trading system but a supplement to trading systems.i would reccomend this book.

With the shortage of men during the Second World War, Ms. Toomey becomes a newspaper reporter and writer in the previously "mens only" domains of crime and ships news. The book is filled with people and landmarks that will fascinate students of popular culture and history. Some of the situations and comments are priceless. As someone who enjoys reading about the people of New York and the boroughs, Winchell and other types, I enjoyed this very much. Among other side jobs, Ms. Toomey worked in radio with a husband and wife team, Ed and Pegeen Fitzgerald, and she talks about the people as they were off the air. An enjoyable read, I liked its episodic style as well.

Chow has done an excellent job of collecting articles from the leading researchers in the pharmaceutical and biologics industry including FDA employees. The terms are specialized but important to those industries. The articles are scholarly and informative. The quality is similar to those in the Encyclopedia of Statistical Science. Most of the terms are also of interest to statisticians like myself who work in the medical device industry. A sample of the items are "Adjustment for Covariates", "Bayesian Statistics", "Boassay", "Clinical Trials", "Equivalence Trials", "Food and Drug Administration", "Intention-to-Treat Analyses", "International Conference on Harmonization", "Multiple Comparisons", "Postmarketing Surveillance", "Sample Size Determination", and "Surrogate Endpoint".

This is a particularly good reference for statisticians who work on clinical trials regulated by the FDA. However keep in mind that it is very specialized and is rather expensive.

Although I have not read the whole book, the stories in it are superb. They each have their own comical sense, but behind them there is a greater meaning. They reflect so much about Communist Russia, while being still enjoyable reading. A must.

Required Reading...For School.......2000-04-28

I have had to read this book on two separate occassions, both in high school and college. I still wonder why. While it does give a somewhat humorous look into everyday life in communist Russia, the stories have seemingly very little significance (perhaps that is the point?). I have trouble finding this book's relevance to classes. I guess some literary works are timeless...this one is not.
