Success 2000 is a basic tool in my coaching toolbox. This book is full of mistakes.......2007-06-15

Be careful with this book. It is loaded with errors. I have tried to contact the publisher but got no response. Some of the errors are blatant and some are not so obvious. For those with no prior financial knowledge, this book could mislead you and cause you to get some answers wrong on the test. I suspect the reason for the errors is because an updated edition was not fully proofread.

ExamCram - excellent addition to study materials.......2007-06-09

This book is not intended to be a comprehensive study guide to pass the Series 7 exam. My firm issued me the Pass Perfect suite of study materials. It is comprised of about 7 books for this test. Comparatively speaking in volume, the Exam Cram pales in comparison. However, I find myself reading it to get the authors' perspective on various concepts and he seems to explain them very well in the Exam Cram. A good use of money to have this book as a supplement or primer.

Buyer Beware: CD-Rom does not work with windows XP.......2007-05-31

Not current.......2006-09-21

While there is a great deal of information that is helpful, the 2006 edition is not current. Out of date information includes; IRA contribution levels and long term capital gains periods. Furthermore there are mistakes in several explanations of the exam questions. You definitely will need another resource that is current.

Believe the warning and disclaimer that the author and publisher give. Perhaps Amazon should include that on the sales information page.

Not what you would expect..........2007-09-14

After missing the mark on the Series 7 by only one question (yes, one lousy question), I bought this book to provide me with additional practice. Yes, there are many errors and it is quite frustrating. But, the other problem is that the book covers what my STC instructor deems "untestable items." In other words, don't waste your time. The Dummies Guide is a much beter supplement.

You can read the other reviews for the "why" but I just had to add my voice to theirs in saying that this is the worst study aid I have ever encountered. Now I know why it was the only one left in the bookstore when I purchased it. I didn't think you could publish something with so many errors or blatantly wrong answers.

First thing I did after the exam was check the copyright date because I was certain I had purchased an outdated version - Nope it was dated 2005. Setting aside the numerous editing errors and software glitches, the book falls meaningfully short of the scope of material covered on the test.

Man, I should have read the reviews on this book first. I missed passing the Series 7 by 13 questions a month ago, so I was looking for additional study materials to help me get over the hump. I bought this book at the store before reading the reviews. Man, what a waste of my money. Just like the others, I have contacted the company with the errors that I have found, missing answers, and just plain mismatching with the book. I cannot trust this book as a study aid and neither should you.

Example question:
Retirement Accounts - from book #5 (page 358) (QID 755) - Which of the following types of investments are permitted to be made in an individual retirement account?

I. Mutual Funds
II. Antiques
III. Precious Stones
IV. Gold and Silver coins

A. I only
B. II and III
C. I, II, and III
D. I and IV

Answer: Book = D / CD-Rom = C

The Explaination option on the CD-Rom even states the following: "An individual retirement account is permitted to make investments in such securities as mutual funds, certificates of deposit, gold and silver coins minted in the United States, and brokerage accounts. It is not permitted to invest in such speculative investments as art work or antiques."

It even says it in the explaination that antiques are not permitted, yet the answer on the CD-Rom says it is!!!

Do not waste your time with this book. Look for other study aids from Dearborn or Securities Training Corporation (STC) or check with your sponsoring institution on their suggestions (and hope that it's not this book).

I had to buy this book for a GIS class. Amazon says it is 320 pages, but it is really only 203. This book is a thin hardcover, but is ridiculously priced at over $100 dollars. It sickens me that I have to pay this much. We had BETTER use this book in class. Do not buy this book unless you have to for a class or you have trouble sleeping at night.

GIS Raster Review.......2005-10-02

This book provides a clear and consice review of the use of Raster Modeling for GIS. There are sections of objectives, review chapter summaries, and chapter questions that are very helpful.

Good content, often seems too wordy.......2005-01-14

I disagree in part with the comments below. This book covers most basic aspects of raster-based modeling. Most GIS books I come across seem to focus on vector format data and concepts. I found this book is a breath of fresh air. And it doesn't limit itself to one particular GIS sofware package and their algorithms when discussing raster abilities. My only negative comments are that it often seems too wordy (although that may be a function of the book layout, it's printed on 8.5 x 11 paper and many pages are single column text only which really appear daunting when looking at them), some subjects could use better, more in-depth coverage with diagrams and figures, and the price.

Raster-based modeling is a rich environment with great potential and I think this book gives a much better introduction than more general GIS books. In addition to this book, I would also recommend books by Joseph K Berry for more advanced raster analysis topics.

I have to agree with the above review - over-simplified explainations of the easier topics, then no information on the more difficult ones. A glossary of some of the more complicated terminology would also be EXTREMELY helpful. The diagrams that are included are confusing, particularly the ones that contain mistakes! I am disappointed with this book, but according to my professor this is the best book available right now. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE WRITE A BETTER BOOK????

Get to the point!.......2004-04-19

I had to purchase this book for an advanced GIS modeling course. Out of all the texts I have read for GIS, this is probably the most poorly organized. This book wanders through loosely defined concepts, and never seems to come to a conclusion. The text (and boy is there text and text and text) is not well supported with graphics or drawings to illustrate the author's ideas and concepts, and when they are, the illustrations are simplistic "stick figure" drawings that appear to be drawn in PowerPoint. And 90 bucks for a 200 page book is pretty ridiculous.

Implementation of spatially distributed models using Geographic Information System (GIS) involves accessing and processing of spatial and time series data. Most of the GIS software do not provide an explicit functionality to support handling of time series data in modeling and also requires exclusive client storage of one-dimensional array for raster data access. This paper describes an attempt to overcome such short comings by developing Spatial and Time series data Access Objects (STAO) using Microsoft's Component Object Model (COM^(R)). STAO has advanced enough modeling objects which are developed for the raster and time series data access and analysis while they are simple enough for the user to implement them in spatial models in a variety of native proprietary formats. The STAO architecture defined in this study has multiple advantages in terms of interoperability, reusability, and extendibility. The usefulness of these objects has been demonstrated by implementing: (1) the USDA's Soil Conservation Service (SCS) method of rainfall runoff estimation and (2) an algorithm for finding time area diagram at sub-watershed level. The results of implementing SCS using STAO in Kolli Hills watershed is discussed and the computed runoff values are in good agreement with field observed values.

As a beginning polymer chemist, this book was a wonderful reference. It covered all of the topics I needed to know and provided an easy way to learn the necessary vocabulary. I highly recommend this book to beginning researchers and anybody interested in LB films.

The Maghreb (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia) has been inhabited for millennia by a heterogeneous populace. However, in the wake of World War II, when independence movements began to gain momentum in these French colonies, the dominant national discourses attempted to define national identities by exclusion. One rallying cry from the 1930s was "Islam is my religion, Arabic is my language, Algeria is my fatherland."

In this incisive postcolonial study, Jarrod Hayes uses literary analysis to examine how Francophone novelists from the Maghreb engaged in a diametric nation-building project. Their works imagined a diverse nation peopled by those who were excluded by the dominant political discourses, especially those who did not conform to traditional sexual norms. By incorporating representations of marginal sexualities, sexual dissidence, and gender insubordination, Maghrebian novelists imagined an anticolonial struggle that would result in sexual liberation and envisioned nations that could be defined and developed inclusively.
