Should be a Classic.......2007-05-04

I read an earlier edition of this book years ago. It taught me how to recognize the stumbling blocks that litter my life and to logically develop my own plans to get over, around or through them successfully. I have applied the principles explained in the book many times over the years and they work every time. The book is easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to apply. If you read it and apply it, you will be glad you did. (When I say easy to apply, I mean easy to apply the logical methods taught in the book. Some of the changes that the logic led me to understand that I wanted to make have taken time effort to achieve.)

Needs more than 5 stars. Classic, heartbreaking & hilarious!.......2004-02-01

I first read WUTHERING HEIGHTS as an assignment in 10th grade English class and was struck by how emotionally twisted the characters were. I also wondered if I was reading the book the right way, because I found a lot of the story very funny.

So I decided to pick it up again recently and realized what a timeless, brilliant book WUTHERING HEIGHTS really is. It's as emotional and labyrinthine as any soap opera -- but so much more worthwhile. These are some of the most strongly-drawn characters in literature, and they will pull you right into the story with their caprices, turnabouts, fripperies, and cruelty.

First-time readers may find the beginning a bit slow, but please don't be discouraged by that. A really wild, romantic -- and, yes, after all these years, still pretty hilarious -- story awaits you. This is a book that can move you to tears and make you laugh out loud.

First-time readers may also have trouble keeping track of the two Catherines and who's married to/in love with whom. Even while rereading it, I had to remind myself who was who, who's the child of whom, who's the mortal enemy of whom -- but it is absolutely worth it. So many people go on about how romantic this book is, and it certainly is, but let's not overlook the sheer drama and insanity of this book.

This book is more about obsession than pure romantic love. There, I've said it. This book will make you glad that your life is not like this. But any time you need a shot of histrionic behavior and violent obsession, Heathcliff and Cathy are waiting for you at WUTHERING HEIGHTS.

One of the best English novels ever written..........2004-01-11

At first, I griped and complained about having to read this book. My aunt practically shoved it into my hands and told me that I was to read this book and like it! Well, I read it, and I don't like it at all...I absolutely LOVE it! I'm really into romance and this one hits home.
Emily Bronte died one year before its publication in 1847 and is perhaps one of the most powerfully written books in the English language. I was first 13 when I read this book and it took me three more times for me to understand what the heck Joseph was saying! .... learned in this type of speech, it's really an understanding book.
Just the undying love between Heathcliff and Catherine alone is enough to put anyone in tears. And how Heathcliff is so masculine, yet so insecure and rude. How did Emily Bronte come up with this passion and this knowlegde, when she seldom left her house? You can't help but fall into sync with one or more of the characters. Tragically, yet beautifully written.
This book is truly a classic, you'll never want to put it down! Get it!!!

The Editor Speaks.......2002-03-01

As the editor of this volume, I wanted to point out its differences from many other editions of Wuthering Heights. This one contains the short story, "The Bridegroom of Barna," believed to be the most influential source for the novel. It also collects essays about Emily Bronte that are not published elsewhere with the novel. I may be biased, but I think this is a great edition of the novel and is particularly good for college classes on the book.

Not bad but needed to be a little longer.......2001-02-21

This book is a compilation of scientific questions written in to the "New Scientist" magazine's "Last Word" page. Other readers then sent in their replies, the questions are of a non earth-shattering nature. "Why do some people stick out there tounges while thinking", "Why are eggs egg-shaped", "Why doesn't cling wrap cling to a metal bowl as well as it does to plastic or glass bowls", "How can ants survive in a microwave". These are some of the questions that are tackled. Although the book is not bad it is very short and will be completed in one sitting. The questions could have been more interesting, but I guess that's the fault of the readers of New Scientist. I would recommend that people read the great "Why things are & why things aren't" by Joel Achenbach, before this as that was a real gem.

Libronix CPU Library - Bible Study System.......2007-03-15

Since the 55 Volume set of Luther's Works sells for about $1,500, this is a great value. In addition, it can be combined with other Libronix products. I also bought AMG Bible Essentials and The Interlineal Literal Translation of the Greek New Testament. For a total expenditure of about $225, I can word study, do exegetical reviews and compare original Greek translations side by side with the KJV and the NASB Bibles. These programs all work in conjunction with each other and form a solid basis for studying Biblical scripture. You can study your Biblical teachings and sermons and be armed with the truths, including the ability to discern differences in the many Bible translations. Study Bibles today can be negatively influenced by the editors, who may be the new breed of evangelicals teachings man's doctrines instead of Gods. Read 2 Peter 3:15-16 and protect yourself against false teachings.

Nice Resource!.......2006-03-19

It's a nice, easy to navigate collection of Luther's Works. I like the ability to find things by heading or by volume and page numbers. The only down side is that the search function isn't very refined.

Magnificent!.......2004-12-03

At last this magnificent set of Luther's Works edited by the extraordinary Sterling Professor of History at Yale, Jaroslav Pelikan, is available in CD Rom format. The original book form of this series numbers 55 volumes, all of which are essential and intriguing reading for students of theology. Luther himself needs no introduction, nor recommendation, and students of theology are advised to immerse themselves in Luther from an early stage in their theological journey. Ideally, those who use this set should also own Luther's Works in book form as it is hard to imagine someone reading through the 55 volumes by looking at a computer monitor. However, for preaching purposes, as an academic resource, and for immediate access to relevant sections of Luther's Works, this set is absolutely essential--a must have.

Awesome Tool, Easy Integration.......2004-05-29

I had been looking to add Luther's Works to My Logos Libronix Digital Library System for some time. Truth be told, it was the reason I went with Logos Bible Software in the first place. The cost seemed prohibative at $250 until I found it on Amazon.com for $169 with free shipping! I read one review that said it was difficult to integrate with Libronix. I was nervous for that reason. However, it was NOT difficult at all. In fact, it was so simple, I wasn't sure I had done it right! This is an awesome tool, to have Luther's Works at your fingertips, to go from the index directly to the volume and page you need in a split second. Awesome! Thanks.

Touch and Go.......2004-03-10

I ordered the CD-ROM from Amazon, and it was delivered speedily and without difficulty. However, installation is another matter. The Libronix system was quite difficult to install. It turns out that you will probably have to refer to one of the many websites, including www.logos.com, for fixup scripts to restart a failed installation. You will also probably have to install Internet Explorer v 6.00.2800 for yourself. I did that, and you need to, because it contains all the latest security fixes from Microsoft.

But, even after you are through with all this and ready to study Luther's writings, you will find (if your package is like mine), that there may be no visible serial number on the packaging, which you need to unlock Luther's Works.

I tried every number on the packaging, to no avail.

I visited the [Logos] web-site for help, and for contact information. I found that e-mailing tech@logos.com (twice) finally resulted in a serial number being sent from a named e-mail address at [Logos]. The only response I got from customerservice@logos.com was a refusal to provide any serial number. If you get rebuffed, just persevere. There is someone at [Logos] who can help you!

If this fails, probably your only recourse is to get permission from Amazon to return the CD to Amazon as DEFECTIVE. Ordinarily Amazon does not accept returns of opened CD's, but in this case, they might.

Now I can see all of Luther's Works.
