Very Good-I am buying the book for my personal library.......1996-12-12
I found the book (which I found at the local library)to be very helpful in dealing with people in a business setting and in everyday life. I also liked the quizzes which give you a sort of a "checkup from the neck up" to let you know if you are "doing the right thing" whether it be as I said before in a business setting or in your everyday going-ons.
I would highly recommend this book for its help with business and also the fact that when it utilizes the dolphins, it makes it easier to understand

Book Description
Future pension provision is highly controversial; it juxtaposes the challenges of old age security with the exigencies of global finance. Clearly, demography, finance and public accountability are crucial to current political debate. But there are other important issues. The problems of paying
for the retirement of the baby boom generation has exposed profound differences in the advanced economies in terms of their financial institutions and infrastructure. Pension security has been re-conceptualized in part as an issue of global finance and international comparative advantage bringing
with it a re-definition of risk and pension security. This book examines how major continental European and Anglo-American countries are dealing with these pressures, to what extent these responses are beginning to redraw the boundaries between public and private responsibility for pension security
and what the implications of public-private partnerships are for the financial organization and infrastructure of European and global financial markets and the nation-based welfare state. The contributors all involved in policy development in their respective countries, assess the comparative
strengths and weaknesses of recent pension initiatives in the light of continuing fiscal constraints and current market instabilities. Using a tight comparative framework, the book questions assumed divisions between states and markets, as new divisions between public and private spheres of pension
responsibility require new regulatory machinery to guarantee future security. This book provides a vital reference point in understanding pension security in the 21st century for academics and postgraduates in the social sciences, economics and finance, geography, politics and social policy, policy
makers in OECD countries and industry professionals.

The roots of Antitrust.......2000-03-28
This is the one book of antitrust that makes a student or lawyer, experienced and unexperienced, to understand the nature of antitrust law and the political and philosophical dilemmas to which it still remains bound to. This is not a casebook nor a hornbook, it is a simple book that describes the reason why antitrust analysis will remain within the same bounds no matter the time or country in which we study or practice it.

Book Description
Farming Systems Research (FSR) may be defined as a diagnostic process, providing a collection of methods for researchers to understand farm households and their decision-making. Its applications use this understanding to increase efficiency in the use of human and budgetary resources for agricultural development, including research, extension and policy formulation. Initiated by the then International Association for Farming Systems Research and Extension (now International Farming Systems Association) and developed with support from FAO, this book provides a detailed history of FSR. While it includes the application of FSR to developed country agriculture, its main focus is on FSR in its original role, with small-scale, resource-poor farmers in less developed countries.

A History of Farming Systems Research.......2000-09-29
I'm worikng my master thesis in Europe, but currently I'm on vacation in USA. My work connects animal science and computer science and I'm trying to find out what is new in the field of management system in animal production. That is how I found this book. I wonder if there is any other books like this that are talking more about animal systems not farming system in common. It is a very special book with special topic. I haven't read it yet, but I intend to. If it is what it promises, that would be great. Books like this should be more frequent.

Environmental Impact Assessment: A Practical Guide
ASIN: 1402020899 |
Book Description
The purpose of this book is to analyze, with actual examples, different techniques that have been developed to tackle the complex task of making an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of a project. A project may influence the lives of many people, can change the physical environment temporarily or forever, and creates benefits or losses, not only for the people who promoted it, but also for those not related whatsoever with the project. Thus, its assessment is not only a commercial evaluation of gains and losses, but it goes far beyond that, for it also has to appraise:
-how people's way of life will be affected;
-how significant the alteration produced in the social fabric will be;
-what the result will be of using certain renewable and non-renewable resources;
-how much the expected economic development will cost in terms of loss of resources sustainability;
-how to measure what is not easily measurable: enjoying a sunset, a stroll in a tropical forest, climbing a mountain, etc.; and
-how to integrate the technical and environmental aspects of projects with the desires, wishes and needs of the population.

Jazz Age Beauty.......2000-04-23
In the Great Gatsby, F Scott Fitzgerald created a wonder. He described a world and a fiend we can all relate to, that of frustrated and not fully requitted love, and he described it with all the beauty that anybody using the English language could muster. His message was the we are all fighting against the tide of time, which beats us back ever more forcefully with the progressing years, and yet we all feel that our youth, our elixir, our perfect moment and strength of Orient is within our grasp. Gatsby was a man who had lost once, and yet felt the compulsion to fight again, for the ultimate prize that would revoke his past defeat. A simple and bewilderingly focused passion that in the end destroyed the man as only it could. That was Gatsby's only goal, but in stripping his life down to such basics, and in essence, seeking to negate the past, Gatsby found he was fighting against the viscious tide of time. Read this book for the narrative, if you like. Read it for the beautiful Jazz Age description if you like also. But read it most of all for the moments in it whose beauty surpasses all contemporarys'. Find the green light.

A brilliant story about the Era of Wonderful Nonsense.......2000-02-25
Life in the Roarin' 20s was oodles of fun. The wealthy people all throughout the United States were going to parties and making money. Jay Gatsby, Nick Carraway, and Daisy and Tom Buchanan were right there in the action. But, there was a huge conflict that stopped all the fun for these four individuals. The Great Gatsby will show you what is really behind all of the excitement in the 1920s. You will here about the poor people who couldn't afford the parties and fun events. Also, the ever-going romance between Gatsby and Daisy, and the problem they have when facing society will amaze you. For example, they meet in secret places tucked away from the public. Their romance is one of betrayal and privacy. This novel will also describe the Jazz Age as it really happened with the alcohol binges at Gatsby's parties, the fashion of flappers, and architecture, especially the homes of Gatsby and the Buchanans. Before you know it, you will be living in the Era of Wonderful Nonsense right along with the characters while sharing their story. This novel is definitely a must read!

Ruth Gay's writing traverses the paths of history from the microcosm of personal memoir to millennial histories of peoples and nations. In The Jews of Germany, she traced one and a half centuries of Jewish life in Europe. In Unfinished People, Gay describes the lives of Jewish immigrants from Eastern and Central Europe and the process through which they forged new cultural identities in America. The materials for Gay's examination of Jewish life range from historical essays to personal remembrances. Short vignettes describe the role of Yiddish theater, the changing fashions of dress and family life, and her studied opinions on Jewish-American history and identity. Her opinions are sharp and her exposition is lucid and informative.
Book Description
Winner of the National Jewish Book Award, a seminal work of history on immigrant Jewish life in early twentieth-century New York. Nearly three million Jews came to America from Eastern Europe between 1880 and the outbreak of World War I, filled with the hope of life in a new land. Within two generations, these newcomers settled and prospered in the densely populated Yiddish-speaking neighborhoods of New York City. Against this backdrop, Ruth Gay narrates their rarely told storya unique and vibrant portrait of a people in their daily trials and ritualsbringing alive the vitality of the streets, markets, schools, synagogues, and tenement halls where a new version of America was invented in the 1920s and 1930s. An intimate, unforgettable account, Unfinished People is a singular act of expressing in words the richly textured lives of a resilient people.

Interview by proxy.......2000-08-04
If you were too young and/or stupid to interview your grandparents from "the old country", here's your chance to learn about what it was like for them to emigrate to a strange new country while still a teenager. Thoroughly readable, informative, and enjoyable. Will enhance your respect and deepen your love. You will see pieces of your own family, your own history
Every Day Life.......1998-10-16
I am not Jewish. I do not have any Jewish friends. I live in Kentucky and I doubt that there is any Jewish people within miles of me. I wanted to find out more about their culture. This book was excellent. It dealt with the issues that I wanted to know about the every day ones. What they wore, what they ate, their household customs. I enjoyed reading how they were scared to send their children to camp. I liked the part where the women were always cleaning and to have bed bugs was the ultimate shame.
Educating and entertaining........1997-09-29
I read this book to better inform myself on the every day lives of the Jewish immigrants. I am searching my husband's Jewish ancestors and was pleasantly educated during the course of the book on the lives of these immigrants in New York City; their every day comings and goings, customs, work places, religious practices and the heavy influence their "pre-immigration" lives had on their new situations.

Excellent Product.......2007-02-26
Well worth the money. Reminds me a bit of a 1926 book, "Thinkers and Doers" by Floyd Darrow that chronicalled the many developments up to that perios. It whetted my interests, as hopefully this book will do for others, in to fields they may enjoy working in the rest of their.
