Working With Words; Words to Work With was conceived as the author was preparing a presentation on motivation. As handout materials were being prepared, the author wrote copy for several motivational words. He filled both sides of a 5 ?" x 8 ?" sheet with copy. Looking at several sheets as they were lying together, he thought an assembly of many sheets would make an interesting book. The reader can pick up the book, and read two pages, or as many as he or she wishes. Each two page article will be complete in itself, There are many occasions when a reader has only a few minutes to relax through reading; for example, on the subway, in the bathroom, or at lunch. The words chosen for this book are work-related, and in most cases they are inspirational words.

Misleading title and one of the worst.......2007-07-05

After I run through the book (it's too dry, repetitive and disorganised), my immediate feeling was: "What a sucker I am!" The book title and the front cover is definitely misleading. Instead of telling the hows, the author kept on quoting academic studies of how useless TA had been, and preaching the importance to look into the "context" of individual scenarios. I dont mind how bad the author disliked TA. However, he should have provided a solution, which is nada, but shallow fundamental and behavioural stuff, readily available and much better presented in books that focused on "Fundamental Analysis" and "Behavioural Finance". Glad to see that another reviewer Stephen B. Aust shared the same negative opinion as mine. In short, dont waste your hard earned money and valuable time on this.

Technical Analysis and the Active Trader.......2006-07-20

This is, quite simply, one of the worst books ever written on any subject. I have never written a review of a book, even though I read several hundred books per year. Here is the book in a nutshell. The author met someone doing Technical Analysis that wasn't very good and he also went to a seminar that he didn't like. According to his bibliography, he hasn't read any real Technical Analysis books. His opinion is that he doesn't like TA. He shows a couple of charts that no true TA would trade from (and in fact show the opposite of the point that he is trying to make... for instance the MACD on the same chart says sell, but he manages to think that the chart says buy). His solutions are... well, you've got me... what ARE his solutions; maybe his next book will give solutions. Do not waste your time and money on this book... unless he reduces it to one paragraph and charges one cent for his opinions, which is what his opinions are worth. This book got one star because it is written in English and the ink wasn't smeared. I firmly believe that the other reviews were written by the author's friends.

Had to Sit On This Review.......2006-06-29

I had to sit on this review a while and let it simmer. This book is five star material no doubt. It is a 4.5 star because there is one thing that bothers me. The author spent half the book ragging on the faults of TA.

I happen to agree with some aspects of TA and a simple chapter with a problem would have sufficed. In fact I (as a published author) would have started the book with the Nokia and Motoral divergence case that was presented near the end of the book. That simple illustration shows the fault of TA without much further discussion needed.

For those readers wondering what the author is complaining about, he is complaining about comments like the following: (Trading Markets.com)

As Goes the Rest of this Week, So Goes the Second Half of the Year

"As the last few days of the first half of 2006 come upon us and the S&P 500 is trading near break-even, we asked, "How does the market perform the second half of the year after it has risen the first half of the year?" And, "How has it performed the rest of the year after it has declined the first half of the year?""

The answer is that the market will decline, but you have to ask yourself why? What says that the market will decline, from a purely TA perspective? Sure it might, but it also might go up.

I am not going to give an answer which way the market will go because the second half of this book does give a generalized answer. I find the second half of this book brilliant, and if there ever is a second edition of the book (and there should be) the author needs to focus on expanding the materials in the second half.

Beware of superbookdeals seller.......2006-06-19

If you want to buy the book, go ahead, just be careful of superbookdeals, they take your money but don't deliver and don't answer emails. Caveat Emptor.

An end to trading BS.......2006-02-18

Gary Norden describes trading how it actually is - hard work. So many people get involved in trading thinking it's an easy way to make money, and many techinical trading systems lead them to think this way. Most of these people ultimately lose money. Those that succeed develop a deep understanding of their markets, understanding that requires time, hard work, and intelligence.

Although Mr. Norden claims he didn't intend to write a "how to trade profitably" book (and it probably isn't possible to write such a book) I found his general advice excellent: understand the context of price moves, weigh possible outcomes and expected returns, and look for disconfirmation in other markets.

Not a bad book.......2000-08-24

Some parts are not clear enough especially the chapters on dynamic phenomena in ferroelectrics. Furthermore, I found some obvious printing mistakes. But totaly I would say not a bad book.

FINALLY! NOW THERE IS A GOOD TEXTBOOK ON FERROELECTRICITY.......1999-02-19

Finally the ferroelectrics community in particular, and the solid state society in general has a textbook on ferroelectricity! The book by Professor Levanyuk is absolutely written in a very elegant manner. It is a pleasure to read. Not only the phenomenon of ferroelectricity is described rigorously and logically but also in a "self-contained" form. It is self-contained in a sense that, although elements from the broader fields of phase transformations and statistical mechanincs are employed, the reader does not need to read many other books in "parallel" in order to understand the concepts presented in the book. That, unfortunately, has been the situation (in my experience) reading books such as the one by Lines & Glass (I still think their book is a good one...yet though to read). Macroscopic and microscopic models of ferroelectricity are presented and discussed in a complementary fashion and continuity is effectively maintained throughout the treatment. Eventhough the book is specifically written on ferroelectricity, the reader is exposed to the principles of phase transformations (first and secons order), statistical mechanics as well as lattice dynamics in a clear and thorough style. In short, with a great pleasure I give this book 5 *'s and highly recommend it. It would certainly make a perfect textbook for a graduate course in Materials Science, Solid State Chemistry, Solid State Physics and all allied disciplines.

Is This Guy for Real?.......1999-07-04

Taking Michael Crichton's word on Henry James is sort of like listening to Gary Coleman criticizing Olivier, or Milli (or Vanilli) carping about Mozart.

First of all, in the above non-review, the reader assumes we "want to be swimming through crystal water," whatever that means. Well, I've swum through enough crystal water, and come away after the read with nothing. James's industrial strength extra chunky peanut butter sticks with me long after I've put it down. "The Beast in the Jungle" OR "The Jolly Corner," two novellas, eclipse and obliterate the entire body of Crichton's work. Simple as that.

"The Velvet Glove" is a great find - the limousine ride stuck in my mind. "The Birthplace" is a riot, too. Try them-

Michael Crichton said of Henry James: "I hate Henry James. His stuff reads like a first draft." For a pop writer, was Crichton ever right!!! Henry James is incapable of getting to the point. Reading Henry James is like swimming through a pool filled with peanut butter, when all you want is to swim through crystal water.
