Customer Reviews:
Very good marketing book.......2007-09-22
I found this book in my local library and was pleasantly surprised by all of the great ideas. I read a lot of marketing books, and this one ranks very high on my list because the tips are concise, practical, and there's so much to choose from. Each of the 101 chapters is just a few pages long and at the end there is a list of resources if you need more information. I especially liked the info on writing articles, letters to the editor, and your own column. The chapters on creating or sponsoring awards, contests, or events were also informative.
This book was published in 1999, so a few chapters need an update (i.e. internet marketing). But overall, I highly recommend this book. I will be purchasing a copy for myself and using it for reference in the future.
GREAT BOOK!.......2006-09-30
This is a great book packed with useful information. Easy to do, low-cost and effective techniques will get you to the top. Warning: Success requires action! Just do it!
Quick, Easy and Applicable.......2006-08-12
This book is a quick read packed full of great ideas. While none are unique or amazing in and of thmselves, they really spark your imagination and help you think about your marketing differently. Of course no business is going to be able to use all of the suggestions, smart businesses will figure out ways to use as many as possible. I try to pick this book up at least once a month and read a section. Whatever it says, I try to find a way to use that to promote my business or one of my clients. As far as I am concerned, this is a must read for every business owner!
21 out of 101.......2005-10-22
Most of 101 ways to promote yourself comes off as filler. While all of these are ways to promote yourself, an individual would realistically be able to use 21 of them. The others seem to not apply, or are so obvious and logical. But Pinskey does cover alot of ground and as a reference to trigger some idea or things to thing about, it may still be worth the price.
From 101 to #1 Is The Only Way To Promote Yourself.......2005-05-23
Raleigh Pinskey, makes it nearly impossible for you to fail in promoting yourself using this book unless maybe by chance you apply the following three methods
1.) You accidently put this book in a corner and can't find it.
2.) You close your eyes and can't remember where you put it.
3.) You use this book as a hat rack.
Well I didn't try anyone of the above techniques because I was too busy trying to read this book.
Raleigh is truly a Viz-ability coach who knows her stuff. On page 76 she tells you to "Sponsor A Contest", pg 212 she informs you to use Testimonials, pg 21 put your picture on a business card and promote yourself some more and last but not least she gives you 98 fresh, interesting, exciting other ways to get started on your self promotion mission.
Pinskey provides all the little bitty tid bits necessary for you to move from the rank and file of the average into the upper board rooms of the highly exalted. Pinskey's book roars with detailed steps and a caring that you rarely see in a tell-all-book like 101 Ways To Promote Yourself.

Product Description
This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A516173. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: Low-speed wind tunnel tests were conducted to determine surface pressure measurements on a proposed aerodynamic fairing for the Altus II UAV. These tests were conducted at various angle-of-attack and sideslip positions to determine the effect on the surface pressures for the optical window portion of the fairing. Of particular interests were the pressure contour field located over the optical window region and the total force exerted on this area. Scaled- up loads (lbf) as calculated on the window ran from 1.0 to 1.6 times the freestream dynamic pressure (psf). Pressure measurements were also taken on the upper fuselage of the Altus II UAV model to determine the location of the peak suction area. These measurements provided the data to optimize the placement of external vents on the full-scale version of the airframe.

A Radiative Transfer Model To Analyze Radiometer Data In The Atmospheric Window
Manufacturer: Storming Media
ProductGroup: Book
Binding: Spiral-bound
ASIN: 1423576470 |
Product Description
This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OH report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A349803. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: A radiation model was developed to calculate radiance in a plane parallel, vertically nonhomogeneous, nonscattering atmosphere. The radiance model was developed to analyze data collected by a vertically pointed radiometer with a receiver bandwidth of 9.5-11.5 micrometers. These radiometer readings are used in conjunction with backscatter readings from a vertically aligned polarization diversity lidar system to compute various cirrus cloud properties such as infrared (IR) emittance. The model used the correlated k-distribution method (CKD) to calculate absorption coefficient functions and account for the nonhomogeneity of the atmosphere. Transmittance and radiance results from this CKD model were compared with results from FASCODE3, a popular and highly accurate line-by-line (LBL) radiation model. Several different atmospheric profiles, ranging from subarctic to tropical, were compared to determine the accuracy and efficiency of the CKD model with respect to the LBL model. At the highest resolutions, the CKD model was 15-100 times faster than the LBL model. Despite the increased efficiency, the CKD model transmittance errors from the earth surface to 30 km were less than 0.4% with respect to the LBL model in temperate and arctic profiles. Errors were less than 2% in the tropical profile. The CKD model downwelling radiance errors from the surface to 30 km were less than 2% with respect to the LBL model for tropical and temperate profiles. In arctic conditions, radiance errors were as high as 8.5% below 2 km, but tapered off to 3% at cirrus cloud levels.

Wind Tunnel Testing for Drag Reduction of an Aircraft Laser Turret
Manufacturer: Storming Media
ProductGroup: Book
Binding: Spiral-bound
ASIN: 1423561058 |
Product Description
This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSONAFB OH report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A011643. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: This study investigated the use of aft-mounted fairings and splitter plates to reduce the drag of a half-scale aircraft laser turret. Forces, moments, and pressure distributions were measured in the AFIT 1.5-m (5-ft) wind tunnel at Reynolds numbers between 3x10 to the 5th power and 9x10 to the 5th power based on the turret diameter. Oil traces indicated the nature of the flow near the surface of the unmodified turret and the surrounding area. Tufts placed on the turret, fairings, and splitter plates showed changes in separation regions when configurations were changed. The flow around the turret was characterized by dominant vortices shedding from the top of the turret and a large trailing wake of vorticity. Splitter plates were ineffective in reducing drag as a result of the strong flow over the top of the turret. A small fairing reduced baseline drag by 49% but was unable to produce attached flow near the turret. A large fairing eliminated nearly all separation regions and reduced baseline drag by 55%.

Book Description
An interesting examination of law as language use or discourse, this study looks at the transformation of ordinary language into a special discourse for the purposes of the legal system. It is widely accepted that legal discourse is obscure, and often the public resent the fact that access to the law of the land is obstructed by the opaqueness of legal language. This book argues that the development and maintenance of law's special language can be justified. The myth that law can be written in either plain' or ordinary' language is exploded, and the linguistic obscurity of law is traced to its necessary complexity. The notion of representation is applied to the relation that exists between legal language and ordinary language.

Introduction to Electromagnetic Compatibility (Wiley Series in Microwave and Optical Engineering)
ASIN: 0471675911 |
Book Description
This book covers the basic electromagnetic principles and laws from the standpoint of engineering applications, focusing on time-varying fields. Numerous applications of the principles and law are given for engineering applications that are primarily drawn from digital system design and electromagnetic interference (Electromagnetic Compatibility or EMC). Clock speeds of digital systems are increasingly in the GHz range as are frequencies used in modern analog communication systems. This increasing frequency content demands that more electrical engineers understand these fundamental electromagnetic principles and laws in order to design high speed and high frequency systems that will successfully operate.

Book Description
In order to equip hopeful graduate students with the knowledge necessary to pass the qualifying examination, the authors have assembled and solved standard and original problems from major American universities – Boston University, University of Chicago, University of Colorado at Boulder, Columbia, University of Maryland, University of Michigan, Michigan State, Michigan Tech, MIT, Princeton, Rutgers, Stanford, Stony Brook, University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and the University of Wisconsin at Madison – and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. A wide range of material is covered and comparisons are made between similar problems of different schools to provide the student with enough information to feel comfortable and confident at the exam.
Guide to Physics Problems is published in two volumes: this book,
Part 2, covers Thermodynamics, Statistical Mechanics and Quantum Mechanics;
Part 1, covers Mechanics, Relativity and Electrodynamics.
Praise for
A Guide to Physics Problems: Part 2: Thermodynamics, Statistical Physics, and Quantum Mechanics:
"…
A Guide to Physics Problems, Part 2 not only serves an important function, but is a pleasure to read. By selecting problems from different universities and even different scientific cultures, the authors have effectively avoided a one-sided approach to physics. All the problems are good, some are very interesting, some positively intriguing, a few are crazy; but all of them stimulate the reader to think about physics, not merely to train you to pass an exam. I personally received considerable pleasure in working the problems, and I would guess that anyone who wants to be a professional physicist would experience similar enjoyment. … This book will be a great help to students and professors, as well as a source of pleasure and enjoyment." (From Foreword by Max Dresden)
"An excellent resource for graduate students in physics and, one expects, also for their teachers." (Daniel Kleppner, Lester Wolfe Professor of Physics Emeritus, MIT)
"A nice selection of problems … Thought-provoking, entertaining, and just plain fun to solve." (Giovanni Vignale, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Missouri at Columbia)
"Interesting indeed and enjoyable. The problems are ingenious and their solutions very informative. I would certainly recommend it to all graduate students and physicists in general … Particularly useful for teachers who would like to think about problems to present in their course." (Joel Lebowitz, Rutgers University)
"A very thoroughly assembled, interesting set of problems that covers the key areas of physics addressed by Ph.D. qualifying exams. … Will prove most useful to both faculty and students. Indeed, I plan to use this material as a source of examples and illustrations that will be worked into my lectures." (Douglas Mills, University of California at Irvine)
Customer Reviews:
Sloppy.......2006-06-16
The idea behind this book is good, and the selection of problems is okay. However, there are flaws that undermine the usefulness of many of the problems. All too often there is not enough information given in a problem to solve it, and the solution will assume values for mass, temperature, etc. (i.e. pull numbers out of nowhere).
Some solutions are wrong. The first problem in the book, for example - "Sure, it's fine to sit in a sealed chamber when an atomic bomb explodes. There's no change in temperature because no molecules are escaping. What is this 'potential energy' of which you speak?"
Also, a number of the problems are not as self-contained a qual questions tend to be, and rely on you having solved other problems first (which makes it difficult to pick and choose the problems you do from this book).
And the pictures... are cute, but they are worse than useless. For example, look at P.4.3 and tell me that you expected them to assume the balloon was less than 2km from the Earth. It looks like it's farther away than the Moon. Combine this picture with the lack of information given in the problem and you have no idea what density to pick. (I used the density of the interstellar medium because of the picture. They assume the density of air at the surface of the Earth!)
It's worth looking at nonetheless, but don't buy it. It's put together in far too sloppy a fashion.
A Good Text, Not Perfect.......2005-08-03
Finding a collected set of problems in thermodynamics and quantum mechanics with their solutions is a challenge. A Guide to Physics Problems Part 2 answers that challenge well, though imperfectly. Here are the book's strengths:
- The problems are varied and cover lots of ground.
- There are not hundreds of problems just for the sake of having hundreds of problems. Problems are selected carefully to make sure that they don't overlap concepts. This means you'll do a few problems on each topic, with each problem requiring different skills and techniques. Repitition is thankfully minimized.
- Problems are written clearly and succintly.
- All problems seem "fair". These are concepts I would expect to see tested on graduate level exams.
But there are also weaknesses:
- The solutions are not always crystal clear. At times, I found myself wondering where particular equations came from.
- I found certain concepts not covered well. For example, in the quantum mechanics section, I don't recall any problems regarding free particle states.
Overall, this is a solid and useful purchase. While not perfect, it's still one of the better resources out there for learning thermo and QM.
physics qualifying exams.......2004-10-22
I simply did the problems in this book and then passed the Caltech physics phd qualifying exam for quantum and statistical mechanics. The difference between this book and the standard Yung-kuo book for practice problems is brevity. Yung-kuo simply has too many problems, many of which are very similar, teaching no new concepts. Cahn, on the other hand, has picked a smaller but more meaningful subset of problems. There are few enough problems that you can do them all in a reasonable amount of time, but enough that you hit all the major concepts. I highly recommend it for anyone studying for physics quals, or for an undergraduate with a couple weeks of time who is about to do the GRE. I realize that the GRE doesn't have in-depth problems, but by doing in-depth problems you master the concepts that the GRE does test on.
Elegant Physics Problems and Solutions.......2000-01-10
This book provides elegant physics problems (and solutions) from the preliminary doctoral exams of some prestigious universities. Very good for preparing these exams and also gaining problem solving skills in physics (not only for exams).
With these problems, I also understood some concepts which were not clear before. This book can, therefore, be used as a source for applications of the corresponding subjects. I strongly recommend it.

Book Description
This anthology contains five of the most important short works of Elizabethan prose fiction: George Gascoigne's The Adventures of Master F.J., John Lyly's Euphues: The Anatomy of Wit, Robert Greene's Pandosto: The Triumph of Time, Thomas Nashe's The Unfortunate Traveller, and Thomas Deloney's
Jack of Newbury. Paul Salzman has modernized the texts for easier comprehension.
Customer Reviews:
Elizabethan prose.......2000-02-05
A pretty good collection. It includes "The Adventures ofMaster F.J.," by George Gascoigne; "Euphues: The Anatomy ofWit," by John Lyly; "Pandosto: The Triumph of Time," by Robert Greene; "The Unfortunate Traveller," by Thomas Nashe; and "Jack of Newbury," by Thomas Deloney. I reckon Nashe's book is probably the best. "Euphues" was perhaps the first important work of English fiction, and it was quite a sensation in its time. "Pandosto" was the source for Shakespeare's "Winter's Tale."
