Inspiration.......2002-03-02
Excellent book for inspiration! One that you keep with you!
Is this another fad?.......2002-02-23
With so many books on the market professing to be catalyst for change and growth, where do you draw the line and say enough? I would suggest doing it after you add this book to your collection. This book will be your best friend in any difficulty. It will not justify, excuse or have pity on your circumstances. It will however demand that you take responsibility, buckle your belt tightly and simply change your mind about things. Isn't that what best friends are for?
Messages from God.......2002-02-21
Since September 2001 "Messages from God" has been my book companion and inspiration. I have read it almost every day, and I have always found a pearl of wisdom, so poignant, so true, so clear... Messages.. comfort me when I was probably in my worst year, I was unemployed, my relationship of more than a year was interrupted without reason. I start to visit the Unity on the Bay School of Christianity and I have found the book in the booskstore. It was heaven sent. I have found the answer to so many questions! I found reassurement, peace of mind. As a result of the "couching" of Lynn Marks my confidence increase. I start to hear "that still little voice" and my life start to change for the better. I have started to understand what happened and I gather myself and call my ex-boyfriend. We start to talk about the book, I e-mail him some of my favorite quotes, we start seeing each other again. We talked about our feelings, and finally we admited that we love each other. Lynn's book helped me doing it.
Since then, I'been studying the book and have copied some quotes that I take with me and share with friends. By e-mail, I have translated the most useful quotes for a given situation, and send it to my friends in Spain, Cuba and Brasil.
I cannot wait to see what else Lynn have in store for us.
A Must for Every Library..........2002-02-20
Being a success coach and a motivational speaker, I am fully aware of the power of positive affirmations. "Messages From God" has allowed me and many of my clients to take this exercise to the next level. The messages compiled in this great book are so inspirational. I highly recommend adding this gem to your library today!!
Immediate inspiration.......2002-02-20
I love this book. It's full of great, practical inner energy. I carry the book with me and read a message whenever I need a boost. It's not religous, it about releasing your personal power everyday to live bliss! I recommend it as one of my favorite books.

Book Description
Hailed as "a paradigm shift in feminist responses to pornography" when first published in 1993, Dirty Looks was instantly lauded as a landmark volume. This new edition adds to the core of the original selection no less than eight new accounts of recent transformations in the politics and presentation of porn. Drawing on the radical work around gender, identity and sexuality within critical theory, the book continues to argue for the significance of porn in debates around gender, feminism, and masculinity and the importance of the topic in our understanding of issues of power and cultural identity. Above all, it insists on the categorical imperative and critical necessity to continue the study of an area with such immense symbolic and social significance.
This new extended edition with several specially commissioned contributions -including several now from male contributors-extends its coverage to include issues as diverse as: women's use of porn; transnational gay porn; lesbian webcam porn; the cultural and intellectual "economy" of porn; and the presence of genre and narrative in porn texts.
Book Description
A book about not just the theory but also the practice of pornography, Dirty Looks includes essays by photographer Grace Lau and porn-performer Annie Sprinkle as well as renowned writers Lynne Segal and Linda Williams.

Worth a look.......1999-09-26
yes, it's a bad title and scary cover, but there's some good writing to be found within. the kind of feminist thinking about porn that you definitely won't find inthe mass media -- or the new york review of books.

Law, Crime and Sexuality: Essays in Feminism
ASIN: 0415026717 |
Book Description
Carol Smart presents a new gendered analysis of the power of law and argues for a feminist, post-structuralist approach. She comments on pornography as well as discussing recent research on rape trials and abortion
Book Description
Some say the fetus is the "tiniest citizen." If so, then the bodies of women themselves have become political arenas--or, recent cases suggest, battlefields; A cocaine--addicted mother is convicted of drug trafficking through the umbilical cord. Women employees at a battery plant must prove infertility to keep their jobs. A terminally ill woman is forced to undergo a cesarean section. No longer concerned with conception or motherhood, the new politics of fetal rights focuses on fertility and pregnancy itself, on a woman's relationship with the fetus. How exactly, Cynthia Daniels asks, does this affect a woman's rights? Are they different from a man's? And how has the state helped determine the difference? The answers, rigorously pursued throughout this book, give us a clear look into the state's paradoxical role in gender politics--as both a challenger of injustice and an agent of social control.
In benchmark legal cases concerned with forced medical treatment, fetal protectionism in the workplace, and drug and alcohol use and abuse, Daniels shows us state power at work in the struggle between fetal rights and women's rights. These cases raise critical questions about the impact of gender on women's standing as citizens, and about the relationship between state power and gender inequality. Fully appreciating the difficulties of each case, the author probes the subtleties of various positions and their implications for a deeper understanding of how a woman's reproductive capability affects her relationship to state power. In her analysis, the need to defend women's right to self--sovereignty becomes clear, but so does the need to define further the very concepts of self-sovereignty and privacy.
The intensity of the debate over fetal rights suggests the depth of the current gender crisis and the force of the feelings of social dislocation generated by reproductive politics. Breaking through the public mythology that clouds these debates, At Women's Expense makes a hopeful beginning toward liberating woman's body within the body politic.
Customer Reviews:
don't bother with this book.......2005-11-11
I also had to read this book for a college feminist course and it is completely outdated. This is the kind of material that makes some people resent feminism. It does not represent any rational school of feminism. Daniels argues for drug abuse and alcoholism among pregnant women. She also seems to think that companies which prohibit pragnant women from handling hazardious materials, like lead, have a secret agenda to keep women from working. In one chapter she sticks up for a woman who refused to have a ceserian because the baby would have complicated her life had it lived. Additionally, the medical information she uses to argue her points and the studies she cites in her favor date back anywhere from 12 to 30 years. I can't believe this book was ever published and I really can't believe it is still being taught.
Just Feminist Psychobabble.......2001-05-13
Throughout the entire book, Daniels continously and erroneously asserts that women are somehow subjugated by having certain policies that protect their fetus. Well, boo hoo. A woman should not have the right to drink alcohol if she is pregnant. I think she can go for a few months without intoxicating herself and her developing life. I found it very irritating and quite frustrating. It was assigned in a feminist college course.

Book Description
"The Women's Cause is One"--a slogan from a 1919 lobbying pamphlet in support of women's trade unionism--sums up the crusading spirit of this exciting period in women's history. This book shows how the women's movement, through its network of organization and its powerful and widespread campaigning, was transformed and developed into a formidable fighting force. It continued its assault on entrenched positions to secure women's full and equal participation in society--in politics, commerce, industry and the professions, education, welfare, politics and for franchise extension. This study confounds the myth of the movement's post-war decline.

Book Description
This work first defines sexual harassment, including operational, sociological and legal definitions, and then provides a history of the issue in the United States and a theoretical framework of why harassment occurs. This is followed by a look at the legal dimension of the problem, with a discussion of pertinent federal and state laws and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) decisions. The incidence and settings (e.g., workplace, housing, religious institutions) are next examined, followed by chapters on sexual harassment in the government, the military, and in education. The book concludes with discussions of strategies for the victims and for employers.

Book Description
This book explores the history of gender bias in the law. It draws on the most recent scholarship in the historical research of law in Australia. The contributors present material of both contemporary and historical relevance as they offer new insights into the significance of the law over two centuries of Australia's history. It analyses the impact of the law on women; on legal constructions of gender and race; and on feminist campaigns to redress grievances. In the nineteenth century feminists organised campaigns to repeal repressive and discriminatory laws. Twentieth-century feminists joined the legal profession and set out to redirect legal education and practices in new ways. These essays contribute to this critique as they explore areas feminists have identified in women's struggle to achieve justice. Weaving together themes of difference, cateorisation and change, in four broad areas - sexuality, family, punishment and citizenship - this book offers an original and unique contribution to current concerns about the gender bias in law. This book will meet the demans of students and teachers seeking historical material to broaden legal education, and will be a valuable aid to all those interested in the law in Australian history.

Book Description
From his own farming experience in Weeping Water, Nebraska, Jim Bender addresses in Future Harvest the crucial issues involved in developing a viable commercial pesticide-free farm with emphasis upon soil and water conservation. He examines the context of contemporary alternative agriculture, provides a rationale for the goal of complete freedom from pesticides, and offers a detailed description of practical steps for farmers wishing to do the same.
Bender's comparative analysis of alternative and conventional farming systems focuses on convenience, management, conservation, productivity, and economic performance. He also identifies and responds to several central arguments against pesticide-free farming. A central objective throughout the book is to demonstrate both the practical and the conceptual plausibility of pesticide-free farming.
The author also addresses the crucial role of livestock in pesticide-free farming. The discussion combines practical and theoretical topics, such as whether alternative farming would require too much livestock.
Customer Reviews:
Wow! Someone who did something they believed in........1998-12-28
I am not a farmer and I do not know much about agriculture. I came across this book by accident, but after reading the book I want to know more about the pesticde-free farming. Why? First, Bender has a style that makes you feel like you are sharing your thoughts around the fireplace with a knowledgable friend. Second, how many real life stories are there about someone who had a good idea and made it happen? As Bender says at the end of the preface; "For me, one of the sweetest moments of my life came in 1980, when I eliminated all pesticide use on my field crops, thereby successfully matching my practice with my convictions." How many of us would like to say that? This is a great story even if you know nothing about farming.

Book Description
This book is the outcome of a symposium where leading researchers, mainly in developmental psychology, came together to discuss the implications of the emerging developmental science and the holistic approach. In doing this, the authors wanted to honor a distinguished colleague, David Magnusson, and his career-long contributions to this field.
The purpose of the book is to discuss the profound implications for developmental science of the holistic paradigm, especially with regard to the individual development within psychology. Against the background of their own empirical, theoretical, or methodological research, the authors have tried to identify what is needed for the developmental theory and methods within this paradigm and discuss possibilities and limitations in relation to conventional approaches.

Poor Scientific Work!.......2003-12-16
The authors of this book make an attempt to prove that the Grand Canyon was formed during Noah's Flood only 4,300 years ago. However, the geologic evidence used to support this theory is full of holes. They present no solid proof of their claim, and even contradict themselves within the book. For instance, the authors try to show that the distribution of the fossil record supports their claim that the Flood killed all the fossils in the rocks. However, even though they claim the Grand Canyon rocks (over a mile of rock layers) was deposited by the flood, there are no dinosaur fossils in the canyon. Dinosaur fossils are all stratigraphically above the canyon layers. Somehow, the dinosaurs survived the first mile of deposition of the flood rocks! Not only that, but they were walking around making footprints, breeding, pooping, and nesting new eggsites, all during the receeding phase of the flood! This is but one example of hundreds of errors by the authors. Before you buy, check out a more thorough review of this book at www.answersincreation.org/bookreview.htm.
A Whole New Way of Looking at the Earth and Its Past.......2002-04-05
Standard geology textbooks teach us that, while individual events may be rapid, geologic change (such as erosion) is very slow overall. Austin deftly dispenses with the straitjacket of uniformitarianism, and shows how the Grand Canyon could have been eroded rapidly. Instead of a little river acting over a lot of time, we had a large body of water (Floodwater and its remnants) acting over a short period of time.
Creationist Geologist With Credentials Examines the G.C........1999-11-03
Anyone who has ever gazed down into the immensity of the Grand Canyon has surely asked himself, "HOW in the world did this ever happen!"
If the standard "millions and millions of years" explanation leaves you with questions, read this book.
If you want a thorough, intellectually satisfying survey of the Grand Canyon, and the theories of it's origin, this book is for you. If you liked Whitcomb and Morris's "The Genesis Flood", you will like this book.
A man who believes the Bible, knows geology, and has carefully studied the Grand Canyon presents his findings in a very readable, interesting, and well illustrated book aimed at the general reader.

Book Description
This book describes how modern quantum field theory is capable of treating not only quantum field particles, but also objects with classical and quantum mechanical degrees of freedom, including thermal degrees of freedom. It thus provides a unified overview of many areas of physics on the basis of the concept of macroscopic quantum vacuum.
Book Description
This little book is filled with Barbara Ohrbach's favorite thoughts about the positiveness of love and caring about one another, and it truly captures Shelley's notion that "All love is sweet." Barbara has looked to writers as diverse as Thomas Jefferson and Winston Churchill, Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Agatha Christie -- and gathered a rich and touching collection of quotations that celebrate the many wonders of love.
Also included throughout the book are simple, delicious recipes for Forget-me-not Fudge Sauce, Meringue Kisses, and other sweet treats to share and enjoy. Any of these easy recipes will make an enchanting gift for all the special people in your life.
Illustrated with delightful eighteenth- and nineteenth-century engravings, A Cheerful Heart is a perfect present. Tie it with a ribbon and give it to someone you love along with a thoughtful note or a big hug. As Barbara says in her introduction, it is these little, loving things that make each day worthwhile.
