There Really Are Ways to Work Smart.......2002-03-16
The Successful Woman's Guide to Working Smart demonstrates over and over the types of challenges and opportunities a working woman or, for that matter man, meets in ordinary business life. Caitlin Williams uses examples from real people that acknowledge time pressures and conflicting priorities. Her questions for reflection are simple, yet profound, and can bring to light personal obstacles that are holding us back.
This book is deceptively easy to read and can be read in small bites. Yet, each page has some nugget of wisdom that can be put to use. Ms. Williams takes into consideration that many women were not raised to advocate for themselves. She teaches us how to overcome shyness about promoting ourselves and gives practical suggestions for taking actions that aren't aggressive, but help us feel more participative in our workplaces.
Some of the strengths Ms. Williams writes about are already developed in many women. In this book, we can learn how to build on those strengths even more and feel and act more confident in the future. Probably the quality I like best about this book is it's premise that women are good professional people that don't need to be 'fixed.' I especially recommend this book for women beginning their worklife, whether young or after another life stage. It can give you a good jump start.

Must read for every woman.......2006-12-25
If you are working woman seeking a new job, or a housewife going back to the market, this is a must read book. It is the only book I came across that indicates the way men perceive women during the job interview and salary negotiations. The psychology part of the book has made me even more gutsy when it comes to job search interview techniques and the way of presenting myself to a potential employer. There are some smart answers one can use when in an interview with biased or sexist interviewer. Sameples of thank you letters and career woman organizations are very helpful.
A study guide for interviews.......2005-01-29
I bombed an interview a few years ago. I did everything wrong, and I was not prepaired at all. A friend loaned me this book, saying it had helped her out and that it was geared towards women. Reading it felt like I cramming for a huge test.
Ms. King puts things in such a clear and understandable way. This is the perfect book for people like me, who didn't know the first thing about interveiwing and salary negotiation. It is also good for people who just want to brush up on their skills.
After 'studying' this book, I went for another interveiw with the same company a few months down the line. Before I knew it, I had the job and a better salary than I expected. I know I couldn't have done it without this book! It was a huge help, and I know it will help you!

This book worked for me. I read the interview chapters just before an interview and I "rocked"! Then that night I used the salary negotiation techniques and they worked! I just followed her instructions and was able to raise my starting salary by 25%.
Not for seasoned professionals.......2003-08-12
While this book may be helpful, presenting new information to those new to the job market, I found most of the information to be trite. Also, I found no significant salary negotiation information, which is why I picked this title. A big disappointer, this book is. But luckily I just borrowed it from the local library so I'm not out any precious cash.
Disappointed Job Hunter.......2001-04-14
After reading such rave reviews, I was quite excited to order this book. Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed. As I flipped through the pages - I quickly discovered outdated advice. For example, the book warns its women readers of discrimination and sexism and states that women make far less than men in similar positions. Most of its statements are supported by 1995 reports; the same year this book was published.
On the flip side - this book does offer helpful information - although it is somewhat elementary. I bought the book in search of salary negotiation tactics. This book covers advice on interviewing about 90% and 10% on salary negotiating.

I owned this book quite a few years ago (probably first edition) and ended up loaning out my copy to a woman looking for a new job. Of course, it's so good I never got it back. Needless to say, I absolutely have to own this book again. I help friends and family with job searches and this book has been a very solid tool for me to help them, as well as help myself in my own career. Even men find this book very helpful. DO NOT PASS THIS ONE BY! This is a must-have for any woman's career arsenal!

This is a great book for those individuals who want to improve their resume. It is a great tool for those women who have just entered or are re-entering into the workforce. It explains how to use volunteer work to your advantage and yes it does count for something. I would suggest this book to anyone who is, was or is going to become part of the workforce.

I bought this book and have read it all the way through. It has great tips that even I can use. Just because I'm a guy doesn't mean I can't use these tips on how to profile someone and then use them to profile women.

Im the kind of girl who allows her heart and her head to both have a say in her dating decisions. This book helped me do it in a thoughtful, evidence-based way. Most people have certain personality traits which causes them to behave in predictable fashions. The book descibes these traits and explains the behaviour it causes. It really helps you get into someone's mind. And being in someone's shoes (or mind) helps you understand them and communicate better. On the flip side - if some guy is trying to pull a fast one on you or has serious psychopathic tendencies- this book clues you into the tell tale signs to watch for!
The best part of the book is way the author has integrated the science with humor and wit. Easy read with tons of good advice!

I found Profiling Your Date a charming read. I finished it in two days and feel like I learned a lot about the kind of men I should be avoiding and the ones I need to be on the look out for. The book does not talk down to women, it really is a SMART woman's guide!

Helped me more than anything.......2003-10-31
I had the opportunity to buy another book by this author several years but now regretfully passed and watched by investments go down the drain as I followed advice from another financial author.
Edelmans book helped me to recoup those losses and get back on track. I have since added "The Truth About Money" and "Ordinary People Extraordinary Wealth." I also recommend "The Road to Wealth" and "The Laws of Money" by Suze Orman, another credible financial author.

Ric still assumes you can get 10% on investments. Right. And your Enron retirement plan will keep you cozy until you're 99.
An insurance salesman's dream!.......2002-07-09
This book should have been titled "Why you need to overinsure yourself rather than plan for retirement!" Ric uses life insurance *AS* his retirement plan and recommends you maintain enough insurance to provide an INCOME to your family. Not just pay off your debts and provide some cushion for your family, but to actually LIVE off the income. Geez, no wonder insurance rates are sky high! I can see a larger policy for a working man with a wife and young children to support -- so that his wife can have a few years to find her own way. But this man is advocating using life insurance for something it was never intended to be used for.
On top of that, he completely discounts just how much all this life and disability insurance costs. He maintains that if you can purchase a VCR and TV, you can someone find the money each month for all this insurance. Well let me tell you, I did just a basic search for the numbers he recommended for my family and we would pay out OVER $500 a month just for insurance! No thank you. We'll stick with our meager $100,000 whole life policy and the term policy for paying off the mortgage.
And that's another thing! I've never read a financial planning book that advocates not paying off your mortgage! His entire chapter about that was totally contrary to ALL the other advice out there and I couldn't disagree more. One should maintain the status quo, pay your debts, save, invest, and then pay off the morgage! Provide for your own retirement and stop using life insurance as your retirement plan.
Book achieves its goals.......2001-11-30
This book accomplishs its limited goal and does it well. To say the book is short on detail or substance misses the point of the book. Ric's other books do that. This book is meant to be a quick and basic primer on what people can do now, and it's not meant to be more. Furthermore, to say the author has questionable credentials is amusing. His firm was ranked by Bloomberg as the 5th-largest independent financial planning firm in the nation, with 5,400+ clients and $1.7 billion in client assets. Please, if you're going issue a poor review, make sure its not just a shallow and sleazy ranting.

With the evnets of 9/11, many of us don't know where to turn regarding our finances. This book will guide you with great advice. I'm glad I purchased it and will advise you to do the same. An easy read!!!

A fairly detailed look at the most common plasma diagnostic techniques (reflectometry, Thomson scattering, magnetic probes etc). Doesn't include "advanced" diagnostics such as MSE.

Plasma diagnsotics is very broad and difficult subject. In my case, I understand the concept of Z-Pinch plasma diagnostics with the aid of this book. However, If you have been interested in cold plasma diagnostics, this book is not only good guide book. Very detail descrption will enabel any diagnostics to be possible.

A brilliant collection of entertaining stories.......2003-05-08
In the late 1860s when Alphonse Daudet set out to write stories about his native Provence in serial form for a newspaper, I seriously doubt that he was aware that he was going to leave a masterpiece behind. Luckily for us, he has done just that. The stories are not linked by any particular theme and they all concern the humorous and sometimes tragic goings-on of local characters. Daudet has a peculiarly powerful way of displaying his sympathy for these people and the beautiful countryside they live in. These stories almost seem to have an air of medieval romance to them, though Daudet's writing is very modern in its simplicity of style. The plots display a range from uproarious comedy to a sweet melancholia. Always there is a whiff of nostalgia in the air as Daudet witnesses the very beginnings of modern life and its impact on his beloved Provence. This is a book to treasure and to share with your best friends. If you have not seen the old 1954 black and white French film version in English subtitles, by all means track it down. It's a classic.
