I have read many books that highlight the importance of identifying what motivates each employee. Judy and Todd's book actually gives you a tool to identify these individual motivators based on whether the employee is a visionary, adventurer, artisan or idealist or a combination thereof.

My business partner and I are both adventurers, go figure that two adventurers would found an Internet startup. Some of the archetypes can be deep rooted. Two years ago, I would have sworn I was more of an idealist - I was on a very straight career path - until I jumped ship. Moving from a non-profit healthcare consulting career to running artimix.com, a startup selling framed contemporary photography, was certainly a jump - an adventurous one at that! One caveat, don't let these categories pigeonhole you, you never know what will happen if you let it...

So this is why I've spent much of my career feeling like everyone around me was crazy: they were! Or at least, they were not my "type", or I wasn't theirs. I would have saved years of angst, frustration and sleepless nights if I'd had this book, and the personality archetype quiz years ago when i was just starting out. An especially invaluable tool for insight into one's relationships in the workplace; gives perspective if you've been working a long time. It would be especially great for young women just starting out trying to make decisions and choices about their future and career.

The book was OK. Just OK. I skipped around, wasn't terribly impressed. (Could be that it just wasn't my kind of book.) But all five of these 5-star reviews singing the praises of a book by Judy George -- chairman and CEO of Domain, the Boston-based home furnishings chain -- come from, yup, the Boston area. Well. Need I say more? Except that it irks me to no end to see these reviews, which people expect to be honest appraisals and not marketing ploys, skewed like this.

Just forms, which can be obtained for free.......2000-01-20

This book is horrible. First it focuses on incorporating in Delaware, and gives you most of the necessary forms for that state as well as basic forms 40 other states (no explanation why 9 states were excluded). These forms and instructions are all downloadable from the states' Web sites anyway, so this book is pretty much useless.

The book also promotes the author's company, which charges very high fees for simple incorporating services.

If you need sample bylaws, etc, get them from "Small Business Kit for Dummies," which has much, much more useful information and many other forms you can use. Don't waste your money on this book like I did.

Terse but useful book, for comparing incorporation states........1999-08-08

This book indeed concentrates on Delaware, but does offer incorporation procedures and fees for every state in the USA (as far as I could see, anyway). It's entirely adequate, if extremely lacking in the sort of explanatory babble that one might desire from such a book.

If you want to learn more about incorporation and what it means, look elsewhere. If you want a bare-bones incorporation guide that does cover the ground, is up-to-date and points to a company well-known for pioneering low-cost self-help incorporations, then this is a good book, and your money will have not been spent in vain.

The book is very informative and helpful, and gives the reader a good background on what is required to create a corporation. The weakness of the book is that it focuses on creating a corporation in the State of Delaware. And does not warn the reader of this until they begin reading the book. All the forms and information provided relate to creating a corporation in Delaware. If that is the objective of the reader, then this is a very useful book. If one is planning on creating a corporation in another state then this book may not be very useful.

The book provides valuable insight into developing leadership qualities. However, the study guide seems to only confuse the issue and does a less than adequate job of helping apply the truths contained in the book. I would recommend that anyone interested in being a leader read the book, but avoid the study guide.

This is a companion guide to the book "21 Irrefutable Laws" and is designed as such. When used in conjunction with the text and the accompanying tape series, the study guide can be invaluable to developing leadership.

Doubletalk leadership.......2001-06-24

Although it purports to be about what one does to become a leader, this book sadly confuses cause and effect. The opening chapter, on "The Law of the Lid", is mostly anecdotes about people who have been more successful than others, because they had more leadership capability. The second chapter on "The Law of Influence" explains that leaders have influence, so if you want to be a leader, be influential. Being stubborn, and optimistic, I read about half the chapters, but finally gave up and returned the book.

Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) has become the technique of choice for many areas of radiation dosimetry. The technique is finding widespread application in a variety of radiation dosimetry fields, including personal monitoring, environmental monitoring, retrospective dosimetry (including geological dating and accident dosimetry), space dosimetry, and many more. In this book we have attempted to synthesize the major advances in the field, covering both fundamental understanding and the many applications. The latter serve to demonstrate the success and popularity of OSL as a dosimetry method.

The book is designed for researchers and radiation dosimetry practitioners alike. It delves into the detailed theory of the process from the point of view of stimulated relaxation phenomena, describing the energy storage and release processes phenomenologically and developing detailed mathematical descriptions to enable a quantitative understanding of the observed phenomena. The various stimulation modes (continuous wave, pulsed, or linear modulation) are introduced and compared. The properties of the most important synthetic OSL materials beginning with the dominant carbon-doped Al2O3, and moving through discussions of other, less-well studied but nevertheless important, or potentially important, materials. The OSL properties of the two most important natural OSL dosimetry material types, namely quartz and feldspars are discussed in depth. What a delightful read! The book weaves the happenings of a current boat trip with stories of previous trips and experiences. It is hillarious, laugh-out-loud funny in a lot of spots. The language is superb and the research section is very helpful. All in all a great read!

Mediumly funny, but dry humor (except where they fall overboard!).......2007-04-20

I liked it, but then I have a dry wit as well. It is two books in one publication and so it is good value. It also came from an age where the average folk could afford to buy books. So it is very colloquial in content. The sort of "you could be out having fun" too sort of tale. And yet most of us could easily replicate a journey like their's either rowing up the Thames or biking in Germany.

So not a laugh a minute slapstick stuff but definitely funny. On the other hand if you are worried, buy a used copy some of them are quite cheap. Or get it from the library.

How have I missed these books for so many years?.......2005-06-10

I was going to hold off on glowing reviews for a bit, but I couldn't resist commenting on this book. I'm not even sure how I stumbled on Jerome, but I found Three Men on the Bummel about as funny as anything I've read in a long while. Bummel is about three Englishmen from the Victorianish era heading off for a bike trip through the Black Forest. I've studied German off and on for a few years, so I got a kick out of Jerome's comments on the language and people, and with the driest of dry observations energized by a bit of hyperbole it was the rare book that had me laughing out loud. Both stories are very funny, but Three Men on the Bummel was laugh out loud funny to me, and his observations on the German people (pre-WWII) were uncannily prescient. He was an unusually perceptive and observant writer, to say the least.

As an aside, I've noticed most people seem to find Three Men in a Boat the funnier of the two, but you really can't go wrong with either, in my opinion. Both stories are similar, they involve a bungling, but not too bungling, English fellow getting in a bit over his head with his mates, and the use of humorous exaggeration is about as well done as you ever see it in print. For a Wodehouse, etc fan- these are in must read territory.

I'm a little surprised that so many people found this book so humorous. After reading this little travelogue I would say that I snickered about, oh... twice, and was stupefyingly bored for most of the read. This book put me to sleep in mid-chapter for many nights, and they are very short chapters.

I give it two stars because the guy does make an honest stab at being funny. You will smile a few times because the observations are amusing, but the humor falls short too often.

An enjoyable author, but the book is physically too big........2007-05-08

I'd recommend both the author and his work but not in this format. A paperback that is nearly 10" by 8" by 2" is too heavy and clumsy to hold and read. I've already dropped it a couple times and I'm hoping I can finish reading it before the binding starts to go. Too expensive a purchase to last through only one reading.

This book offers an extremely rare opportunity - to own most of JKJ's works in one volume at a terrific price! I have been collecting Jerome K. Jerome's books for years; editions ranging from early 20th century to contemporary paperbacks. And now I have them all, the works of the greatest, the most brilliant humorist ever born (to say nothing of his punctuation!)

Unless you must have the text of these 14 Jerome K. Jerome books, don't waste your money (as I regret doing) on this terribly disappointing volume. It's densely printed, in two columns per page, in a rather small typeface, and has none of the illustrations that the original books had and that, for me, added much to their charm. I opened this volume once, and immediately put it straight into my bag of "Books to be Discarded."

Three men in a boat is a fantastic read - the mix of comedy and adventure is perfect and it captures the Victorian era to a 't'.

I therefore had high hopes of the sequel, Three men on the bummel. Unfortunetly I can not praise it. The laugh aloud comedy element has given way to, at beast monologues you smile through, at worst, ones you want to skip. The adventure is in short supply and doesn't sit well with the comedy. A real shame.

Three Englismen decide to go on holiday in Germany. They plan to take their bicycles; they will travel by train between the major cities and do day trips by bike. What could possibly go wrong?

The answer is EVERYTHING! You will laugh yourself sick.

I'm surprised that this hasn't been made into a film or a TV series; get some of the guys from Monty Python, or the guys who played James, Tristan and Sigfried on "All Creatures Great & Small".

Humorous tales of cycling the Black Forest.......2004-01-13

I read this book--which I assume is a fictionalized account of an actual journay--after having spent a year in Germany and I bemused by the fact that the Germans that Jerome K. Jerome characterizes in this book (published in 1900) are very similar to those of the present day. Added to this, is the fact that the book is mainly set in the Black Forest region of Germany, which is where I stayed. So not only was this book humorous and entertaining, it rekindled fond memories as well. The writing I fear will disillusion the more casual reader, but for those who have the inclination, this book is a very worthwhile read.
