Issuer Perspectives on Securitization provides insight into the basics of securitization as well as more advanced techniques such as nontraditional asset-backed securities, transactional due diligence, and accounting rules and techniques. Leading experts in the field detail all aspects of securitization, including: structuring efficient asset-backed transactions, rating structured securities, technology issues in asset-backed securities, and the role of the trustee.
Customer Reviews:
A Unique Book.......2000-01-09
In the Executive MBA Program of the Wharton School, where I teach, we have instituted a new finance course on structured financial products and asset-backed securitizations, from the corporate treasurer's perspective. This book featuring issuer perspectives on securitization fits our course perfectly, and is popular among the executive MBA students. The authors are very knowledgable and are able to communicate well. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to delve into this relatively new area of finance.

Book Description
Planting tropical trees is often hampered by the difficulty of obtaining enough good seed of the right species. After describing the process of sexual reproduction in trees, this manual first looks at the possibilities for stimulating flower formation and for increasing the setting of fruits. It provides all the information necessary to choose the best sources for seeds, and to select the best seeds for a particular planting site. Practical instructions are given on how best to germinate the seeds, and how to nurture and care for the young seedlings.

This book would be perfect material for a classroom of 8 year olds, but being an adult, I found it quite lacking in succinct information.

Book Description
This volume is the 8th in a series of impact books resulting from the activities of the scientific program "Response of the Earth System to Impact Processes" (IMPACT), by the European Science Foundation. The book resulted from an international meeting at Mora, Sweden, which was held as part of the IMPACT program. The papers cover various structural geologic, geochemical, and geophysical topics on research of asteroid impact structures on Earth and Mars.
Book Description
Neville Price presents a major breakthrough in our understanding of the subject of plate tectonics in this new book. In this ambitious look at the importance of impacts of objects from space on the earth, he challenges the fundamentals of the theory on which geoscience has rested for the past 25 years. In the latter half of the 20th century, earth-scientists gradually became aware of the scale and effect of bombardment by meteoric material on Earth. Prior to 1950 only a handful of small craters were generally accepted as resulting from impact events. Now "certain" impacts number around 150, with four such features measuring over 100km in diameter. Neville Price evaluates the mechanisms that give rise to plate movements. Generally, such plates move slowly at about the rate-of-growth of human nails and their tracks are usually smooth, gentle curves . Major Impacts and Plate Tectonics presents evidence to show that impacts can cause significant and dramatic changes in track, which cannot be explained by current theories of plate tectonics. The book also demonstrates that such major impact events often coincide with the development of continental flood basalts and oceanic plateau basalts and frequently coincide with major stratigraphic stage boundaries and toxicity, which in turn can be associated with periods of extinction. It concludes that geological history comprises periods of relatively orderly, evolutionary change in Earth and life-forms punctuated by catastrophic changes induced by major impacts that reset the evolutionary clock.

Book Description
The old opposition between a digital culture of sensuous, ephemeral images and a tectonic culture of pragmatic building has given way to a new collaboration between the two domains, a 'digital tectonics'. Computer linked fabrication techniques of many kinds have become an integral part of the design process, while new digital tools are allowing engineers and architects to understand in far more detail the behaviour of load carrying surfaces, and to generate new architectural forms.
Digital and computer-linked design techniques is one of the hottest topics in architecture and in an ever-expanding world of digital technology this book tackles the practical elements of the field.

Where art, philosophy, and the new wave combine........2005-12-17
Neal Leach et al., ed., Digital Tectonics (Wiley, 2004)
Let me start by saying that I know absolutely nothing about architecture besides what I've read here and in Michael Benedikt's stuff, so most of the time I've no bloody idea what I was reading here. This one came to me as a library mixup (someone had gotten it confused with Loss Glazier's Digital Poetics), but it caught my attention, and so I read it anyway.
When did philosophy and architecture become so entangled? (I ask myself this after Benedikt's stuff, too.) I don't know, but the end result is that books like this, which are aimed at showcasing new technologies in architecture, also end up showcasing a good deal of philosphy. And I'm on still tenuous, but far more solid, ground with philosophy than I am with calculus, so I did understand at least part of what was going on.
According to Leach and his contributors, there has been a fundamental rift in the construction of buildings since time immemorial-- the architect's aesthetics and the engineer's physics. The point of the digital tectonics movement is to find ways, through computer technology, that these two things can be brought together into one profession. (Can you hear the engineers screaming for blood now? I can.) In order to give the reader an idea of the directions the digital tectonic movement is taking, they published this slim, but detailed and lavishly illustrated, collection of papers from some of the foremost names in the field.
Drawing on the mostly-conceptual work of Gaudi and Otto, and using Deleuze and Guattari mostly as dummies at which to aim critical looks, these folks are proclaiming the idea of a revolution in architecture that will change, if it succeeds, the very way society interacts. This is most evident in the paper "SoftOffice," detailing the construction of a hypothetical space (well, two; an office building and a childs' playroom, though one gets the feeling that the authors see the two as eventually interchangeable) completely at odds with what we know of space today, and yet intuitive. It's easy to see the strengths of such an installation as an office building. This is, in no small part, because the paper's author is also a gifted writer.
As with any anthology of work where the main profession of those contributing is not writing, this is not always the case. There are a few papers that seem to wander off aimlessly or end long before they should (and there's one baleful attempt at a poem that reads rather like a building would look if I tried to design it), but a good portion of what's here does its job quite nicely.
That said, I can tell you from experience that Digital Tectonics is not in any way a book for beginners; if you've got a background in architecture, you're likely to get more out of it than I did. Still, I found it quite enjoyable. ***

Book Description
Information Tectonics spatial organization in the electronic age The rapid development and diffusion of information technologies - telecommunications, computers, the Internet - is profoundly changing the character, and structure of interaction at the local, national and international level. Information technology is usually viewed as a technical issue, with analysis focusing on hardware, software and engineering concerns for efficient management and operation. Lost from much of the debate and discussion over information technology is the role of geography and the spatial context of information technology. To further understanding and knowledge of the spatial character and geographic impact of information technology, this volume addresses three key aspects of the phenomenon.
* Conceptualising electronic space and placing it into existing and developing theories of spatial and social interaction. What does electronic interaction mean for our theoretical and perceptual understanding of place and distance?
* Exploration of the geographic dimensions of electronic commerce, such as financial flows, securities trade, and the re-engineered multinational corporation. How do information technologies change economic and trading relationships? How do electronic relationships change people and places?
* Analysis of urban and regional development and IT, with emphasis on IT as a policy measure for urban development and regional growth. Can information technologies and intelligent cities provide the lives we want to lead?

Book Description
This book gives an historical perspective of Plate Tectonics. Furthermore, it discusses the foundations of rigid plate tectonics and the limitations of this approach. This classic approach can explain the data to a level of 95 % precision. Some anomalies subsit which must be explained by a more general model. The authors refer to these anomalies: for example discrepancies between spatial geodetical data and rigid kinematics in oceans or rheology significance of fractal dimensions in seismicity and faulting, etc. In this unique book the reader has access to data as well as to interpretations from a broad spectrum of disciplines. Great emphasis is placed on the limitations of the rigid plate tectonics theory of the earth.

Tom Sawyer Abroad: By Huck Finn
ASIN: 0520050908 |
Book Description
o Includes the authoritative texts for eleven pieces written between 1868 and 1902
o Publishes, for the first time, the complete text of "Villagers of 1840-3," Mark Twain's astounding feat of memory
o Features a biographical directory and notes that reflect extensive new research on Mark Twain's early life in Missouri
Throughout his career, Mark Twain frequently turned for inspiration to memories of his youth in the Mississippi River town of Hannibal, Missouri. What has come to be known as the Matter of Hannibal inspired two of his most famous books, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, and provided the basis for the eleven pieces reprinted here. Most of these selections (eight of them fiction and three of them autobiographical) were never completed, and all were left unpublished. Written between 1868 and 1902, they include a diverse assortment of adventures, satires, and reminiscences in which the characters of his own childhood and of his best-loved fiction, particularly Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer, come alive again. The autobiographical recollections culminate in an astounding feat of memory titled "Villagers of 1840-3" in which the author, writing for himself alone at the age of sixty-one, recalls with humor and pathos the characters of some one hundred and fifty people from his childhood. Accompanied by notes that reflect extensive new research on Mark Twain's early life in Missouri, the selections in this volume offer a revealing view of Mark Twain's varied and repeated attempts to give literary expression to the Matter of Hannibal.
Customer Reviews:
interesting.......2000-06-29
This collection of unfinished stories was very interesting. It's very cool to know these unfinished tales. This product is not quite as good as the original Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer novels but is defenately a good collection. Some of the stories aren't as good as others but there are several that are very good.
