Customer Reviews:
Here's the entire book in 5 sentences........2007-03-09
1) If you have no money, don't invest.
2) Don't invest money you can't afford to lose.
3) You have to spend money to make money
4) If you're poor don't even think of investing
5) Thanks for buying my book now I'm richer.
Thanks for the info Bentley.
Exactly what I needed!.......2007-01-26
Regardless whether you're daytrading or not, it's full of layman's terminology in order to understand the complex nuts and bolts of trading in general. Yes, there can be information overload as one reviewer stated ... which is why I found this book invaluable. It's technical, without being stodgy and complicated. The sidebar definitions are fabulous for quick access to terms. I found it to be logically and succinctly organized ... and allows the reader to learn as little or as much as they need. Ms. Bentley states up front that daytrading may not be for the lighthearted, but even daytraders needed to start somewhere. With many individuals trading from their desktop computers, it's important to learn as quickly as possible with as much correct information as possible. Take one trade at a time, utilize the directions ... do the "faux" tutorials on other sites where you don't have to lose money. Then if you find daytrading IS for you, "Online Day Trading" can be your bible. Thanks greatly, Ms. Bentley ... it helped me considerably!
Read it, but You will need more specific strategies.......2005-08-04
This book is ok for a trader that needs to start from scratch. But you will be needing more specific trading strategies.
Keep in mind that the stock market doesn't really care if you are beginner. The rules and the trading opportunities are the same for every one. When you trade you compete against more seasoned traders, therefore you MUST go beyond the basics and employ a clear strategy to make your buy and sell decisions.
There are many "fantastic" strategies outhere, but you need to test them in order to discover which ones help you the most. That's part of your homework as a stocktrader. Test, test and test again.
Complicated systems that rely on a "boat load" of technical indicators can make you slow, and being slow in this game can be as dangerous as not knowing what to do in the first place.
I think the worst thing that can happen to a beginner trader is to get information overload. It's better to go step by step, and test a simple strategy that can show you how to focus on concrete ways to make money.
Fortunatly there are some good sites on the web today that can show you how to trade in a practical and effective way. One of those sites is Stress Free Traders ( StressFreeTraders com)
In the end, day trading is all about buying and selling according to your knowledge FILTER. Once you master and follow your proven filter parameters like a clock, you can expect to start making serious amounts of cash on a consistent basis.
Not worth it.......2004-11-26
This book was a waste of money. It's meant for beginners that aren't familiar with the terms and concepts of stock trading in general. If you don't already know these terms or the basic concepts you shouldn't attempt to day trade. If you do know these terms and concepts, then this book is a waste. The day traders survival guide is a much better intro book and I highly recommend it over this one. Other recommended trading books to start you off are High Probability Trading by Marcel Link and Trading for a Living by Alexander Elder.
Good book for explaning the nuts and bolts of day trading.......2003-11-29
I wanted a book that would take me step by step through all the technical day trader jargon and explain what all of it meant. Getting Started in Online Day Trading by Kassandra Bentley was just what the doctor, or in this case, the beginning day trader ordered. She takes a very solid approach to explaining what the stock market is all about, what day trading is all about, the procedures of doing day trading and the pitfalls of day trading. She is not shy in pointing out other books in order to gather good day trading information. This shows that she is very open to learning herself. Her book does a good job of not assuming that the reader already knows all about day traderese. There are plenty of sidebar notes that refer to terms and phrases within each chapter. This is a very good way of reinforcing what your have just read. One specific area that was very clear in explaination are the terms bid and ask. While other books use these terms almost interchangably and do not explain correctly who is the buyer and who is the seller, she does an excellent job of clarification on this subject. This point is probably obvious to old pros, but her insight that a beginner is not savy to these nuiances is good thinking on her part. She also goes into some detail on charting and day trading methodology, but not too much in depth. If anything, this was the only negative about this book. However, after reading other books on day trading, I believe that this book is the most straight forward and understandable of all of them. The book is well thought out and very concise.

Book Description
To understand the global oceanic carbon budget and related climate change, exact measurements of organic carbon flux in all oceans environments, especially the continental margins, are crucial. In fact, data have been available for some time on organic carbon sources, pathways, and burial for most of the world’s oceans, with the notable exception of the Arctic. With this book, the editors remedy this gap in knowledge, presenting an overview of organic-carbon sources, pathways, and burial of the circum-Arctic continental margin and deep-sea areas. Data from each Arctic shelf and basin are collated, presented in common and parallel formats, and related to the global carbon cycle. The book is suitable for lecturers, graduate students as well as scientists interested in the organic-carbon-cycle and Arctic Ocean (paleo-)environment.
Customer Reviews:
A must-read for anyone interested in Arctic environment.......2005-08-26
This book is a comprehensive source of information about not only the organic carbon-cycle, but the climate, topography, geological past, geography and marine ecology of this region. The accompanied pictures and illustrations are truly wonderful and very helpful. The sections written by the leading scientists provide a wealth of knowledge to anyone interested in Arctic, especially keeping the accelerated environmental changes in perspective. Also, the compilation is so well done (with all the necessary introductions), that this book becomes an enjoyable read for anyone. I borrowed this book from the library, but was so impressed that I am going to buy it now for myself.

Book Description
Did you know. . .
. . . that the woman who discovered the largest and most complete T. rex fossil on record was a high-school dropout who became one of the world's greatest fossil hunters? . . . that the great British scientist Michael Faraday was the son of a blacksmith and had very little formal education? . . . that Gregor Mendel had time to study inherited traits in garden peas because he failed the test to qualify as a high school science teacher?
This is just a small sampling of the many surprises you'll find in this enlightening survey of the mavericks, misfits, and unschooled investigators who have been responsible for some of the greatest scientific discoveries in history. It Doesn't Take a Rocket Scientist explains the achievements of each of these accomplished amateurs, describes how they approached their investigations, and discusses the impact of their discoveries. In these amazing and inspiring stories, you'll learn about:
- Grote Reber and the birth of radio astronomy
- Arthur C. Clarke's vision of communication satellites
- Joseph Priestley and the discovery of oxygen
- Felix d'Herelle's pinpointing of bacteriophages, killers of bacteria
- Thomas Jefferson and the science of archaeology
You'll also discover which fields of science still offer great opportunities for modern amateurs eager to make a name for themselves. After all, it doesn't take a rocket scientist!
Customer Reviews:
The title is a misnomer, but the biographies are interesting.......2003-01-30
The title of the book is misleading because author, John Malone, takes the mistaken view that scientists who don't have a formal education and a PhD are amateurs. The underlying theme throughout the book implies that professional scientists are basically snobs with fancy degrees who give little credit to anyone who doesn't have a formal education, and 'amateurs' have made important scientific discoveries. The error in this assumption is that some of the world's greatest scientific geniuses were self-taught and didn't possess PhDs, but they were certainly not 'amateurs.' As Morley points out, Joseph Priestley, Michael Faraday, and others without advanced degrees have made great contributons to science, but they were in fact well-recognized, professional scientists, not amateurs. A great many other names could be added to this list--for example, Thomas Edison, Charles Darwin, Benjamin Franklin, and a host of others. All were self-educated geniuses who made great scientific discoveries.
However, once having recognized Malone's basic misconception, the short biographies are interesting and fun to read. The delightful collection of stories contain plenty of little-known facts that make for enjoyable reading. You'll like the stories even if you don't buy the underlying 'amateur' concept.
Book Description
Without pretending to be thorough on so inexhaustible a subject, in The Esoterism of Dante Guénon nonetheless casts an unexpected light onto a specifically esoteric and initiatic aspect of Dante's work, and above all of his Divine Comedy. Dante was without doubt far more than a literary genius, and one is justified in thinking that many treasures remain to be discovered in what Guénon calls 'the spiritual testament of the Middle Ages'. The author undertakes to establish that the three divisions of The Divine Comedy represent stages of initiatic realization and testify to Dante's knowledge of traditional sciences unknown to the moderns: the science of numbers, of cosmic cycles, and of sacred astrology. He also touches on the all-important question of medieval esoterism, and corrects the errors of earlier scholars who had only glimpsed the deeper meaning of Dante's work-providing an entirely new explanation of numerous points not previously elucidated. Some of the same themes are further developed in Guénon's Insights into Christian Esoterism.

Informative but Dry.......2000-07-23
This book contains a large amount of useful information and is clearly organized. However, the writing is very dry and a large amount of the information is repeated in numerous sections.
Book Description
Unique method of teaching high school students mathematical reasoning skills leads students deliberately toward a false conclusion. Later, teacher and student review and and analyze the reasoning lapse to correct the problem. Covers arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and approximate computations. 1963 edition. Includes 2 prefaces and 45 figures.
Customer Reviews:
very entertaining.......2000-03-31
There are many very interesting problems in this book. The author presents erroneous proofs of false results and they key is to find the error in the proof. Some are very easy and some are quite difficult. I give it 4 stars because some of the errors in the proofs are really superficial and are either obvious or uninteresting. It is worth a look, though.
