Our world competes for our time and attention in ever increasing ways. Finding a place for calm and reflection, let alone a way to set priorities is a growing challenge. Fortin presents in a clear and applicable pattern, a way to accomplish this goal. Based on his lifetime of working with people to focus on mission and productive ministry, Fortin clearly has much to say that is helpful.

For a student of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the Centered Life echos the theme of "Christ the Center". In Bonhoeffer's "Ethics" this reality is to be found both in the Church and the secular world. Fortin harmonizes with Bonhoeffer's mandates to balance Church, the family, labor, and government. The Christ-Centered Heart is a wonderful book addressing how we live peacefully in the midst of the realities of life. Dr. Mathis artfully weaves together his own reflections with those of some of the great writers in the Christian tradition, as well as writers from other perspectives, offering the reader practical spiritual advice to live each moment in the peace of Christ. The book is well thought out, well researched, and clearly presented. Highly recommended.

A guide to a more satisfying life........1999-04-09

Anyone who suffers from doubts about the meaning of life or who simply seeks a more satisfying way of living will profit from reading this book. A main thrust of the book is that many of us focus too often and too strongly upon ourselves or our worldly goals, resulting in various forms of unhappiness. By moving one's focus off the self and placing it elsewhere--for the author, upon Christ--it is possible to reduce or eliminate the unhappiness and replace it with a growing sense of calm and satisfaction. This is a spiritual, but not a religious, book. The reader need not subscribe to any particular religious tradition to appreciate what Mathis writes. And, while the author is concerned mainly with the "Christ-centered heart," many of the book's points and suggested exercises complement other, more secular, approaches. All in all, an intelligent and wise book.

Wisdom To Live By.......2000-03-26

This wonderful book was written for parents and children. Character building requires a give and take relationship. The goal is to live out of our selves and not from another group, being Self-directed not Group-directed. Each chapter is crammed full of meaty stuff of character building. First, there is the statement of a principal followed by anecdotal illustrations. Then comes the practical application of that lesson. It is not a preachy approach to life's morality but rather the gentle sharing of wisdom gleaned by the old out of their life experiences with the young. Whether it is how to catch a fish or how to catch a truth the task is always how to apply what you've learned. It is packed full of wisdom to live by.

Total Rip off.......2007-06-09

"Filled with in-depth insights and practical lessons". No, it is not. There are several hundred multiple choice quesitons with answers, all taken from about 10 years ago. One suh quesiton is to say which of four Latin American countries has the best debt rating - 10 years ago.
The menu gives you a choice of four answers and then "explaina" the ocrrect answer in a single sentence.
The questions go from the beginning, quesiton 1, to the end. This means if you are using it for revision, you will remember the answers ad so will not find them very useful for revision. They did not even include a random generator.
The publishers and GARP should be ashamed of theselves for engaging in such naked price gouging.

A new branch of physics, black hole gravitohydromagnetics (GHM) is developed from the rudiments to the frontiers of research. GHM describes plasma interactions that combine the effects of gravity and a strong magnetic field, in the vicinity (ergosphere) of a rapidly rotating black hole. This topic was created in response to the astrophysical quest to understand the central engines of radio loud extragalactic radio sources. The theory describes a "torsional tug of war" between rotating ergospheric plasma and the distant asymptotic plasma that extracts the rotational inertia of the black hole.

The book introduces English readers to a heretofore invisible area of Latin American literature known as Vanguardia: an artistic rebellion rich in innovation and technique (elsewhere known as Modernism), but overshadowed by the later Boom writers (1960s). On many levels, this is definitely a must-read. Dr. Martinez has done a fine job of rescuing a forgotten morsel of Latin American literature. Her book makes it possible to enjoy novels that not only preceded, but actually carved the way for the Boom and for many other "postmodern" writers.
