I found this to be a very interesting book. It tells about all types of disasters and how they effect us. The photography is simply wonderful.

Until the publication of Introduction to Nuclear Reactions, an introductory reference on nonrelativistic nuclear reactions had been unavailable. Providing a concise overview of nuclear reactions, this reference discusses the main formalisms, ranging from basic laws to the final formulae used to calculate measurable quantities. Well known in their fields, the authors begin with a discussion of scattering theory followed by a study of its applications to specific nuclear reactions. Early chapters give a framework of scattering theory that can be easily understood by the novice. These chapters also serve as an introduction to the underlying physical ideas. The largest section of the book comprises the physical models that have been developed to account for the various aspects of nuclear reaction phenomena. The final chapters survey applications of the eikonal wavefunction to nuclear reactions as well as examine the important branch of nuclear transport equations. The principles of local gauge theories are described. The minimal standard model of the fundamental interactions is developed and characteristic applications are worked out. Possible signals of physics beyond that model and the theory of interactions of elementary particles probing complex nuclei are also discussed. Numerous exercises with solutions make the text suitable for advanced courses.

A concise, balanced overview of the most important topics in experimental particle physics of the past forty years is presented in this comprehensive study. Beginning with a review of particle physics and electromagnetic and nuclear interactions, the book continues with a discussion of three nearly universal aspects of particle physics experiments: beams, targets and fast electrons. The second part of the text details the properties of various types of particle detectors, such as scintillation and Cerenkov counters, proportional and drift chambers, sampling calorimeters, and special detectors. The last chapter demonstrates how the various aspects of the previous chapters can be integrated in an experimental system. There are numerous references to the research literature, in addition to examples and workable problems.

Essential reading for High Energy Physics Experimentalists.......2003-01-08
Although this book is somewhat dated and badly in need of a new edition, it still contains essential material for those in experimental high energy physics. I know of no other single book which covers HEP detectors in more depth. Many of the principles in this book apply also to newer detectors not covered and this is critical background reading for new grad students in the field.
My only complaint: the book is now printed digitally and looks it. Some of the pages were almost unreadable and the cover looks like it was done on your laser printer. I'm used to better quality from Cambridge Press.
Good Book.......2000-06-13
This book is more of an advanced level reading for graduate students pursuing careers in particle physics. The basic content is refreshing and I am glad that the explanation of accelerated particles was established early in the book, which gave meat to he later context. Overall, I give this book a three-star, because many theories were repeated throughout the book, which got a little annoying.

This book presents the physical background (both theoretical and experimental) of the magnetic isotope effects in radical reactions in solutions. Learn particle physics from a great master!.......1998-07-19
This is one of the best books I ever read. T.D. Lee, a distinguished Nobel prize winner, wrote this book so that bright chinese students could learn both quantum field theory and particle physics with little more than the book itself. It was a great success. The book is practically self contained, starting from classical point dynamics and going up to quantum chromodynamics, Weinberg-Salam, etc., in a very organized and pedagogical way, which doesn't exclude depth and great originality, even in much treaded soil. Don't think it has been superseded. You won't find such a delightful treatment of field theory and its applications anywhere else. This is my absolute favorite.

I have enjoyed Louisa May Alcott's writings for a long time, so I was thrilled to find this book! I was very eager to read it and it did not disappoint me!
If you are a fan of Louisa May Alcott, this book is a MUST! It is packed full of great stuff.
In this anthology you will find four autobiographical stories and essays; a selection of her letters; five poems by L.M.A.; selections from her journals from age 14 to shortly before her death; and four of her short stories.
There is also a section titled "Remembering Louisa May Alcott." This portion includes essays, photographs, drawings and a poem. Fascinating!
Included at the back of the book are suggestions for further reading and a checklist of illustrations. It was very interesting to read about L.M.A and see photos of her and places she had lived.
Another interesting note is that her life was very similar to the March family in "Little Women".
This is a great book! Interesting and factual with much of Louisa's work I have not found anywhere else. Worth buying!
