This book gave me insight into lives and thinking of both Charley Munger and Warren Buffett. It contains important information for Berkshire Hathaway students and fans.

Must read book.......2007-05-18

The book brings out the mysterious personality of Charlie Munger and his progress as an investor. It is not a book to read if you want to learn Charlie's approach to investing but can be a great guide if you want to model your life on the likes of Charlie and Buffett. It gives insights into the mind of two great people who have had the courage to stand against one and all when they thought they were right.

light reading........2007-02-18

i don't typically write reviews, though it is alway nice to contribute. having read quite a few excepts from other books about Mr Munger i was blown away by his simple straight forward logic. It really does put alot of education that we are receiving today into context. I have often challenged my old Marketing Profs. during my MBA etc, to try and explain what makes coke work. None are able to do it in the way that munger can. This book will not give you those insights, though from what i got out of it, it gives you an understanding into the environment and upbringing he had to dervive these thoughts.

It is a good read, sometimes abit fluffy with wording, though you get over this. If you are a Berkshire fan - apart form the annual reports and compilations (ie. Cunningham) the best book by far is Of Permanent Value.

Anyway enjoy and as i said it is a nice light read.

Charlie told her it would be a boring book and as usual he was Damn Right!

You know this is a guy with interesting biz and fishing tales Im sure that could have been weaved into something good. The author's problem is she got so caught up in trying to write a time line of every little fact without much in the way of editing nor narrative. Its like fact vomit. Read this if your sleeping pills fail you.

Little Investment Help Here .......2007-01-30

A decent biography of Charlie Munger if you are interested in his life and family. However, as an investor, I had hoped for more insight into his investment philosophy. If that's your focus you'll find this book disappointing. You are probably better off chasing down his various letters written to shareholders over the years for that type of information. Still, the book is well-written and well-researched and interesting if you are a biography junkie. I'm not.

Start with this book.......2006-02-02

While there are several other books in this series, The Food Service Professional Guide To Series, that cover different areas of this book more thoroughly (for example, there are a few tips on how to reduce your beverage costs in this book, but Controlling Liquor, Wine, & Beverage Costs, by Elizabeth Godsmark, is flat-out exhaustive), this book is a great overview.

Often, you won't need to make extensive changes in your food service operation to maximize your profit. A few things go wrong --for instance certain menu items that just won't sell or problems with a vendor who's constantly sending bad produce--and your profits disappear. Or you're in the opposite situation: everything's going wrong, and you don't know where to start.

My advice would be to purchase this book first. The information here will, for the most part, give you a general idea of what you should be looking for in each area of your business. Each section contains valuable hints, but they're usually very basic ones--ones that if you aren't following, you really should be. If, after reading through the book and making sure you're following the general guidelines set out in each section, you find you're still not seeing the profitability you're looking for in any given area, take a look at the book of this series related to the topic. The other books that I've read in this series go over each area of each subject and pick apart the different areas where your restaurant can be improved for better profit and customer satisfaction--everything from employee fraud to what type of light bulbs you should consider.

If you already know where your problem areas are, you may want to go straight to the book for that area, but often one problem (like excess trim from meat) can be traced back to different areas (like employee relations), so it can be a good idea to have a general checklist to work from. If you're looking to improve your restaurant/food service business profits, this is a great place to get started.

Great Book! I Found These step-by-step guides easy-to-read, and easy to understand! The books are packed with information. They reminded me of "cliff Notes" from my college days.The information is comprehensive without the fluff you find in so many of the more expensive books out there on the subject. The books are also packed with resources such as phone numbers and the web sites of the companies they are discussing - there is no "theory" just great information.

To keep it short and simple, I think this book is a marvel for any anthropologist, archeologist, biologist, and student. It's an easy to use, very clear, and an amazing addition to any library for the serious student.

'Introductory Dynamical Oceanography' 2nd ed provides an introduction to Dynamical Physical Oceanography at a level suitable for senior year undergraduate students in the sciences and for graduate students entering oceanography. It aims to present the basic objectives, procedures and successes and to state some of the present limitations of dynamical oceanography and its relations to descriptive physical oceanography.

The first edition has been thoroughly revised and updated and the new work includes reference to the Practical Salinity Scale 1978, the International Equation of State 1980 and the beta-spiral technique for calculating absolute currents from the density distribution. In addition the description of mixed-layer models has been updated and the chapters on Waves and on Tides have been substantially revised and enlarged, with emphasis on internal waves in the Waves chapter. While the text is self-contained readers are recommended to acquaint themselves with the general aspects of descriptive (synoptic) oceanography in order to be aware of the character of the ocean which the dynamical oceanographer is attempting to explain by referring to Pickard and Emery's 'Descriptive Physical Oceanography' 4th edition.

This is a treasure house, containing one of Witkacy's best short plays (The New Deliverance), one of his best long ones (Janulka, Daughter of Fizdejko), plus extracts from the novels, from critical and theoretical documents (notably on Pure Form, Bruno Schulz and the various drugs with which the author experimented); letters to his friend Malinowski; and the hilarious Rules of the S I Witkiewicz Portrait-Painting Firm, which constitute an object lesson for any artist wracked by the horrors of commercial compromise. The book is conveniently divided into segments according to the progress of Witkacy's career, and each segment has a good biographical chapter by the excellent Daniel Gerould, who seems to have done more to get Witkiewicz known and appreciated in the English-speaking world than most writers can manage to do for themselves. The Witkiewicz reader is both an ideal introduction and a great addition to this reviewer's still-too-small library of Witkacy-in-English. More, please...

The Witkiewicz Reader is an indispensable collection of plays, personal letters, critical writings, fragments, and biographical information from the life of Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz. It contains his darkly surreal plays; his touching letters to his friend Bronislaw Malinowski, the anthropologist; and his innovative critical writing regarding his Pure Form theory of art. This is a well-deserved tribute to a criminally under-appreciated genius whose tragic suicide as the Nazis invaded Poland took from the world a truly gifted playwright, painter, and philosopher.
