The first book to read on the climb.......2006-08-26

"How to become CEO" should be mandatory reading for anyone considering climbing to the top. I agree with almost all recommendations in this book. That is why, I must have given at least 20 copies as a present. The best part is; you can go back and read the chapters randomly once in a while to refresh the basic rules. I have also read the other books of the author, liked most, but this one is by far my favorite.

This book has broad appeal and is definitely worth the time. This author has a fabulous sense of humor! I am a primary school teacher, with no real business experience and I was thoroughly absorbed in it. My husband, who owns several businesses, could not stop raving about it. We have two MBA's in the family, and I will be purchasing copies for birthday gifts! A thoroughly enjoyable read. I wonder if it could even be used in college or business school courses as a basis for discussion....

This text is an excellent "technical assistant," for those who want to establish themselves as leaders instead of followers. mediocre; mostly war stories with little content.......1999-04-28

This book is a mediocre attempt at discussing security issues. Much of it covers basic management ideas and, except for Chapter 6, there is little worth reading. While that one chapter does touch on important security issues, there is very little hard content. I bought the book through the Amazon "hype" but would like my money back. Hopefully, there is something better out there than this feeble effort.

Excellent book.......2007-04-15

This book is a very comprehensive treatment of semiconductor optics. At the begining, I was hesitant to buy it. So I borrowed an older edition from our library. I was so much impressed, that I bought my own copy. A colleague of mine is so much impressed by the lucidity of arguments in the book, that he reads a passage from it for us at work every once in a while. This book spans the breadth of the subject from basic the fundamental concepts of optics and solid state physics to the more advanced such as semiconductor Bloch equations. I highly recommend this book. If I teach semiconductor optics at any time, this would be the textbook that I will use (by the way, it has excellent problems at the end of each chapter.)

This book covers the basics of optical processes in semiconductors from an experimentalist perspective. Therefore the theory is a bit light, but all the concepts are there as well as many useful insights. An excellent introduction to the subject.

The purpose of the course was to give an overview of the physics of artificial semiconductor structures confining electrons and photons. The study of the light - matter interaction in this kind of systems is relevant both to fundamental Solid State Physics and to related fields like Quantum Optics. Furthermore, it furnishes the background for several applications in particular in the domain of optical devices, lasers, light emitting diodes or photonic crystals. In recent years the research in this field has focused on the electronic and optical properties of confined semiconductor structures like Quantum Wells, Quantum Wires, Quantum Dots and semiconductor microcavities. In this context, several exciting effects have been observed. In particular, we mention the effects related to the microcavity polaritons, which are mixed electromagnetic radiation-exciton states inside a semiconductor microcavity. The study of the characteristics of such states, besides a wide interest by itself, shows strong relations with the domain of cavity quantum electrodynamics and thus with the investigation of some fundamental theoretical concepts. Also topics like the exciton localization due to disorder or the coherent control of optical pulses emitted by confined structures belong to the subjects, which are considered in the domain of semiconductor confined structures. The emission characteristics of low-dimensional systems like Quantum Wells, Quantum Wires and Quantum Dots are of enormous importance for the development of new types of semiconductor lasers and light emitting diodes.
