Cruel and Bizarre ..........2007-06-26
I had to stop reading after 56 pages. I fail to see the humor in the author's ineptness at trying to run a small farm (?) in New York in the 70s ~ especially since it is the poor animals that have to deal with the poor treatment. The dog has to stay outside because it sheds? Yikes. Also, certainly this couple wasn't going to starve, so the buthering of their pig, a young calf and the deaths of various other animals seemed so cruel and needless. Was I supposed to laugh when the butcher neighbor spouted being born again while the poor pig was disemboweled? Ugh. Not sure what this is supposed to say about kindness to living beings (it's okay to butcher if the pig is given a nice place to live first?) country living or family values as they obviously hid their young son from these realities. This is going in the recycling bin. The thought that this could end up in someone's hands who might find what the author did a good idea will give me nightmares.
A great book, I loved reading it........1998-10-24
This book is a light and lively look into the lives of the authors family as they grow up and experience rural life in upstate New York.
The adventures they encounter with various animals and situations made me laugh and smile. Mr. Coffman paints a wonderful picture of the life he and his family experienced over the last twenty years.
This would be a great book to read to your children, I have with mine and they found it very enjoyable.
I enjoyed reading this book and so did my whole family.

This is good stuff!.......2003-08-01
I read this book in a few hours. It moves very quickly, and is very entertaining. I can relate to the types of people around the office that this book discusses. And just like "Kate," in the book, I take comfort in knowing those folks are in my present and future, but there are ways to deal with them.
If you work with people, or you are ever going to, then this book is for you.

Lessons in Pig Farming
By Cathy Sumeracki
Whether you are climbing the corporate ladder or raising pigs, this is a must read. I will have to admit that I'm the one in my company who keeps her head in the pig crate. You and your co-workers will be able to identify with these characters and incidents. The pig snout is my favorite.
Cathy Sumeracki has done an excellent job of defining the corporate world and describing the downsizing, restructuring, and changes that relate to so many of today's companies. A real survival guide.
A lesson in how to protect yourself from you........2002-11-21
This book is extremely relevant to all those people out there who keep struggling with who they are and how much more work it causes them. Of particular interest is the chapter "Keep Your Head Out of the Pig Crate". This is so relevant to people that are trying to get started in the job market. You know, the people that will never say no, in hopes of being the spark that makes everything run efficiently. I speak from personal experience. Once when I was incredibly stressed at work, I went to talk it over with my boss. He didn't say much, but just handed me this book and said "read chapter 2." I took the book, and did it that night. The next morning when I came in, I brought the book back to him. All I could say to him in response was "point taken." That was all. What a great way to resolve an issue! I would recommend this book to anyone, in the job market, in college, or any other place where one is forced work by committe or in a team. The points of the stories are easy to glean from the easy to read manner in which they are addressed.
This book hits the nail on the head!.......2002-11-14
This book takes a topic (change management) that can sometimes be too abstract for most people to really understand, and uses humor and common sense to explain it in its simplest terms. The author has a casual and engaging writing style and uses her prior work experience to bring the topic to life. It's a great book, and I'd recommend it as a must read for anyone who either has or is currently going through change in their organization.

OVERVIEW
Designed to teach students effective use of a financial calculator, this handbook is suitable for use in corporate finance (introductory, intermediate and advanced), investments and personal finance courses. Covering key financial concepts, Effective Use of a Financial Calculator provides step-by-step, problem-solving examples using three of today's most popular financial calculators.
Customer Reviews:
In search of a better guide.......2003-11-24
This book was too basic, and it hopped around too much. I am still looking for a good "how to" book on using these calculators. I guess I would have preferred a workbook of problems. Perhaps a workbook would help me harness the full power of a financial calculator.
Tries to cover too many bases........2001-12-01
Every book is worth something, this one included. However, you need to get specific in a book as to the calculating device covered. In this book the author seems to be trying to expand her market by covering way too many devices, devices that are in conflict with each other as to keystrokes and the like. And, we dont need anyone to tell us how to make "Effective Use of a Financial Calculator": nobody has "the" answers on this point.
If you have the HP-12C--a very competent device--, consider Mr. Tirone's "Professional Real Estate Problem Solving Using the HP-12C" as well as Mr. Coffin's "Easy Course" on the HP-12C. If you use the HP-17BII (I have this calculator and love it) and if you work in real estate or just want to strut some things on the device, consider Mr. Tirone's "Professional Real Estate... HP-17BII" along with Mr. Coffin's "Easy Course" on the HP-17BII.
As far as trying to master or even learn one of the TI financial calculators, "get real": save your $$ and your time: get the HP-12C or the HP-17BII or possibly the HP-19BII. You will never go wrong with any of these devices.
Diane "O"
Word of Warning.......2001-08-09
I purchased this book with the intention of enhancing, believe it or not, my efficiency on a financial calculator.
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK UNLESS YOU HAVE A HP 10B, HP 17BII OR A TI BAII PLUS.
I didn't so it was fairly ineffective, you can pick up little tips here and there but you are better of having a good read of the calculators owners manual.
This book is average at best........2001-06-25
This book is average at best. I was expecting to see more visual aids (ie graphs, etc) to help explain the formulas. It's not real bad and you can find all of this information on the Internet.

Book Description
Walter J. Schultz illustrates the deficiencies of theories that purport to show that markets alone can provide the basis for efficiency. He argues that markets are not moral-free zones, and that achieving the economic common good does indeed require morality. He demonstrates that efficient outcomes of market interaction cannot be achieved without moral normative constraints and then goes on to specify a set of normative conditions that make these positive outcomes possible.
Customer Reviews:
Schultz revises the Fundamental Theorem.......2003-10-17
This is a brilliant demonstration that a free market can be efficient only with effective, internalized constraints on behavior ("moral" conditions); that a free market without such constraints is inefficient.
Read Chapter 6 first; then read the preceding five-chapter proof if you need to understand the theoretical underpinnings.
If ecomonists understood this proof, it would revolutionize management, government policy, regulatory practise, and judicial review.

Book Description
The book presents modern and efficient methods for solving Geodetic and Geoinformatics algebraic problems using computer algebra techniques of Ring, polynomials, Groebner basis, resultants, Gauss-Jacobi combinatorial and Procrustes algorithms. Although these problems are traditionally solved by approximate methods, this book presents alternative algebraic techniques based on computer algebra tools. This new approach meets such modern challenges as resection by laser techniques, solution of orientation in robotics, transformation and bundle block adjustment in geoinformatics, densification of engineering networks, analytical solution for GPS-meteorology and many other problems. For mathematicians the book provides some practical examples of abstract algebra application and multidimensional scaling.

Customer Reviews:
One Up From Technician's Hanbook!.......2000-08-04
This is a good book that goes beyone those intro to fiber optics books (that left out the equations and engineering technologies). It's basically a non-equation book for engineers, rather than techs or curious fans of fiber optics (it does get a wee bit complicated).
This book goes into more detail on fiber optic components, applications (networks), manufacturing (packaging, semiconductor fab techniques etc) and touches on curring edge devices (well, the book is 2 years old...).
I'd recommend it if you want to know what your engineers and boss are talking about. It's not the book to grab if you're going to start designing routers or waveguides (you'd probably know the stuff in the book if you're given the job to do such things...)
Best book on Practical Fiber Optics.......1999-03-19
This is one of the best books I have ever read on Fiber Optic communications. Very up-to-date and in-depth. It is a definite book for your fiber optics books library.
Book Description
Eminent scholars including Franz Rosenthal, Everett K. Rowson, and Suzanne Pinckney Stetkevych explore the underlying meanings of masculine motifs in classical Arabic texts.
Customer Reviews:
very recommendable book.......2000-04-12
This is a very interesting and readable book not only for westerners or exclusive monotheists but also for us Japanese. Although we know that in pre-modern muslim societies male-boy love was extremely popular as a common knowledge, we could find Arabic same sex relationship only sporadically in famous literal works e.g. Thousand and One Nights, Abu Nuwas' erotic poems, etc. And now we can read the topic as a whole in this book. If I may be allowed to hope more, I wish that the authors have included many historical episodes & anecdotes too. Of course I know no book is perfect. Then I 'd like to read Homoeroticism in classical Persian literature, and in classical Indian(Sanskrit & Prakrit) literature also.Probably Mr. Leonard Zwilling will offer us a good book on the latter.
