Book Description
Identifying the people best suited to marketing a firm to new clients is critical to the success of new business acquisition. Weitzul's research, plus his own consulting (and new business acquisition) experience, convinces him that not only are some people better suited than others to this delicate task, but that there are ways to identify the traits that make them better--and before costly mistakes can happen. Weitzul guides managing partners and others with marketing responsibilities through the various steps in selecting their "rainmakers," then offers help in developing their talents. Readable, with questionnaires and checklists, the book will be an essential, pragmatic resource for any professional services firm or consultancy.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent, based on science not anecdotes.......1999-03-09
Dr. Weitzul's book is an excellent, somewhat technical, approach to answering the question: "what personality traits make for the most successful sales and marketing in the professional services area." Instead of the usual "learning to listen", "adding value" or usual tripe, Weitzul takes advantage of his years of hard research as a leading industrial psychologist to produce empirical measures.

Why is this book 65 dollars?.......2001-02-26
Ok, I haven't read the book, but I heard an interview with Ken Thomas on the radio talking about his book and it sounds very interesting. It's about corporate welfare (subsidies/tax breaks given to business by state, local, or national government in order to convince business to build in its area). Im waiting for the book to come in at my local library because there is no way in hell im paying 65 dollars for it. That really bothers me. Anyway, when i finish it, i'll Write a real review. I wouldnt be requesting if from the library if I didnt think it sounded good on the radio.

Book Description
This volume contains a selection of papers (keynote addresses and other important papers) from the International Conference on Argumentation at Amsterdam of 2002 by prominent international scholars of argumentation theory. The contributions are representative of the main approaches to the study of argumentation: the informal logical approach, the logical approach, the dialectical approach, the rhetorical and the communicative approach. Taken together the papers in this volume provide an insightful cross-section of the current state of affairs in argumentation research.
The collection of essays as a whole will be of interest to all those working in the field of argumentation theory and to all scholars who are interested in recent developments in this field.

My father and grandparents would tell me stories about growing up on the farm in Iowa. Farm Memories filled in the details for me and made me appreciate the good and the bad of rural life. I highly recommend it!

Book Description
Every year there are new and exciting developments in assisted human reproduction, but how much do we really know about the underlying causes of infertility? This volume explores recent progress in the understanding of the genetics of spermatogenesis and male infertility. Topics include fundamental advances and current problems in the development and function of the testis, an outline of clinical findings in male infertility and an overview of the role of the Y chromosome in male fertility. Comprehensive critiques of posttranscriptional control during spermatogenesis, mammalian meiotic sterility, and comparative genetics of human spermatogenesis from the perspective of yeast, Drosophila and mice provide a global overview of the field.

Book Description
The inclusion of the New World in the international economy, among the most important events in modern history, was based on slavery. Europeans brought at least eight million black men, women and children out of Africa to the Western Hemisphere between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries, and slavery transformed the Atlantic into a complex trading area. This trade united North and South America, Europe, and Africa through the movement of peoples, goods and services, credit and capital. The essays in this book place slavery in the mainstream of modern history. They describe the transfer of slavery from the Old World, its role in forging the interdependence of the economies bordering the Atlantic, its effect on the empires of Portugal, the Netherlands, France, and Great Britain, and its impact on Africa.
Book Description
A Concise Introduction to Pure Mathematics, Second Edition provides a robust bridge between high school and university mathematics, expanding upon basic topics in ways that will interest first-year students in mathematics and related fields and stimulate further study. Divided into 22 short chapters, this textbook offers a selection of exercises ranging from routine calculations to quite challenging problems. The author discusses real and complex numbers and explains how these concepts are applied in solving natural problems. He introduces topics in analysis, geometry, number theory, and combinatorics. What's New in the Second Edition: · Contains extra material concerning prime numbers, forming the basis for data encryption · Explores "Secret Codes" - one of today's most spectacular applications of pure mathematics · Discusses Permutations and their importance in many topics in discrete mathematics The textbook allows for the design of courses with various points of emphasis, because it can be divided into four fairly independent sections related to: an introduction to number systems and analysis; theory of the integers; an introduction to discrete mathematics; and functions, relations, and countability.

The missing link.......2000-10-02
I'm not sure how many of us there are out there, but I am one of a breed of consumers of applied mathematics who learned some pretty sophisticated mathematical technology without the rigor of pure mathematics. Although this book is aimed at freshmen entering mathematics programs who need to be inculturated into the world of pure mathematics, I found it to be the crucial link I needed to advance my own applied mathematical training. I reached a point where I was ready to move from applied texts to the more cryptic world of math texts written for graduate mathematicians. Unfortunately, I was not properly trained to decypher their special language and way of doing things, particularly that of the formal proof. I found reading introductory texts in analysis to be like trying to learn Japanese from books which were themselves written in Japanese. Then I found this wonderful little text. It made things much more accessible to me and helped me crack enough of the code where I could find my way around those analysis texts, which in turn allowed me to move on to the graduate math texts containing the methods I am studying now. The book is a bit high priced for its size, but for me it was well worth it.
Book Description
Number theory has a long and distinguished history and the concepts and problems relating to the subject have been instrumental in the foundation of much of mathematics. In this book, Professor Baker describes the rudiments of number theory in a concise, simple and direct manner. Though most of the text is classical in content, he includes many guides to further study which will stimulate the reader to delve into the great wealth of literature devoted to the subject. The book is based on Professor Bakerâs lectures given at the University of Cambridge and is intended for undergraduate students of mathematics.
Customer Reviews:
Fields Medalist.......2000-12-25
My copy of this book is worn out. It's hard to explain it's charm, perhaps it's the way it covers so much ground so quickly and fluidly (without leaving everything as an exercise for the reader). A particular emphasis on quadratics: residues, forms, class field - not surprising since the author himself won the Fields Medal for his work binary quadratic forms in 1970 and previously in 1966 proved a long-standing conjecture of Carl Gauss: The only imaginary quadratic fields with unique factorization are d = -1, -2, -3, -7, -11, -19, -43, -67 and -163.
apt title.......2000-04-01
This book packs in as many concepts as number theory books five times its length (divisibility, arithmetical functions, congruences, quadratic residues and forms and fields, and diophantine equations and approximations) and is still (surprisingly) very clear. There are even exercises to keep you busy.
