This is a must have book for you and all of your friends. Joni Daniels shows us clearly that we have the tools to get what we want from our work, families, relationships, and life we just need to "put on the safety goggles" (i.e. have a clear vision) first. The stories she tells have universal appeal -- you'll recognize yourself and your close girlfriends. Just spending 15 minutes at night reading this book was a great way to get a charge to my batteries, get me planning my next career move. This book is the kind that you don't want to lend. I find myself buying additional copies to give to friends.
A Book for all women of the 21st century.......2002-04-18
Power Tools for Women is one of those books you want all your friends and collegues to read, only you can not bear to lend your copy!. This book is a must for all women. We are in a position of transition, trying to balance home life and career, being wives, mothers, bosses, role models, and somewhere in there trying to maintain our sense of self. Joni Daniels has captured our issues and given us a wonderful resouce on how to work with them. Her wit and writing style coupled with her examples of real people situations make it such an easy read.

I just finished reading Joni Daniels new book- "Power Tools for Women" and I had to write this review. I have never done this before but I wanted to let other women know how essential this book is to help all of us understand how to change our lives and have more personal and professional satisfaction. We do have the power and the tools to be successful, to be who we want to be--deserve to be and not what our society, corporations, families,teachers, etc. peg us to be.
The methaphor of power tools makes it easy to understand and apply the advice in this book and I related to many of the examples Ms. Daniels used. I have worked in a "man's world" for over 30 years moving from secretary to vice president in a billion dollar company. You don't get there simply because you are good technically. The secret to how you get what you want is in this Power Toolbox. Read this book and level the field!!!

I liked Power Tools for Women because it really hit home. I could identify with many of the real-life examples the author wrote about. I kept thinking, "Yeah, that's me she's writing about!" Daniels' advice helps you figure out how to make things work whether it's on the job or at home. She shows that you probably already have the ability to tackle something tough, you just have to recognize it. She also gives suggestions on how to develop that ability. This book is packed with great ideas and is one that I'll keep referring to. It's smart, funny and right on target.

Great and Easy Read for Teenagers.......2003-10-02
I bought ...Power Tools for Girls in an effort to educate myself about the things our girls within the city need to know. I read through the book in a day and it made a tremendous difference in my ability to help. The book covered everything from becoming more self-assured, taking care of your body (exercise), developing social skills, finding your place in society, to great fashion tips and learning about various drugs that destroy the body (including hotlines and other resources). I find it being easy to follow for girls 8 and older, and very interactive. Janice has set out to change the way of thinking for everyone interested in bettering themselves, I recommend getting this book as a present, a gift, a reward, or just because. It's well worth it and you can't go wrong...

Great book with lots of helpful hints........2006-12-13
At first when I purchased this book I was very skeptical but after reading I found many insightful things that maybe should have been obvious. But someone like me does not always see the obvious and purchasing this book will in the long run make me a nice profit.
This is the biggest waste of money.......2004-11-24
My employer bought this book, because she is wanting a grant to expand her practice. After reading most of the first 100 pages, I got so annoyed. The first 100 pages are all stories about how much this book has helped other people (isn't that the same scheme already used to get you to buy the book? Why do we now need it in writing?) All of the information can be found off of web search engines by searching for grants in your state. The other grants in the book are so specialized such as grants for certain things in certain states or cities. The book includes a grant for asian elephants. Please tell me how many ordinary people out there need a grant like this one. My suggestion is not to buy this book. If I was you I would skip the book and use a search engine OR go to cfda.gov its the website for the government book he admits to copying from.

The Emerson Brothers: A Fraternal Biography in Letters is a narrative and epistolary biography drawn from the unpublished lifelong correspondence exchanged among four brothers: Charles Chauncy, Edward Bliss, Ralph Waldo, and William Emerson. This is an extensive correspondence, for not counting Waldo's previously published letters, there are 768 letters exchanged among the brothers and an additional 483 unpublished letters from the brothers to their aunt Mary Moody Emerson, mother Ruth Haskins Emerson, and Charles' fiancee Elizabeth Hoar, among others. While lesser figures might have faltered under the burden of having been born an Emerson, with social, political, and ecclesiastic roots extending back to the first century of New England settlement, the brothers' letters reveal that all were invigorated by a shared sense of origin and aspired to make a significant reputation for themselves. Across six richly developed chapters, the signal events and friendships that shaped the Emerson brothers' lives are strung together to reveal a remarkable family culture. For the first time, The Emerson Brothers treats the illustrious history of the Emerson family in America as a foreshadowing of expectations the brothers inherited; defines the extent of Waldo's debt to William for his encounter with German Biblical Criticism; develops Charles' and Edward's incredibly promising but ultimately tragic lives; examines the profound emotional and intellectual impact of Aunt Mary on the younger Emersons; considers the three-year courtship between Charles and Elizabeth Hoar in the context of Waldo's own marriages; and studies the brothers' preoccupation with financial security for "the family" (revealing, too, that finances were at least as powerful a motivation behind Waldo's 1832 resignation from Boston's Second Church as were the death of his first wife and his religious doubts). This biography approaches Waldo's inner life in a way that makes him a figure to imagine personally by portraying him in relation to his brothers who are his intellectual equals. It offers an imaginative social and cultural history of one of our oldest and most gifted families, unique players in a period often considered to be the "American Renaissance."
