What will the future hold for business? The Fourth Wave attempts to answer this question by looking far out to the horizon of knowable things. Expanding on Toffler's Third Wave, The Fourth Wave analyzes trends that will shape the nature of business in the 21st century. At the forefront of this trend analysis is the consideration of global consciousness, ecology, environmental integrity and economics. The book is written from an academic perspective, so it is not an easy read, but the authors must have sensed this shortcoming, because they use charts to effectively summarize the information presented in the chapters. We [...] recommend this book to anyone who wants a fresh perspective on the role business might play in the future, and perhaps should play today. Executives, change leaders and students will find this book useful and thought provoking.

Communist garble at its worst.......1999-11-15

I only read this book because it was required by a management professor. The book contains enough eco-trash logic to make you wince in pain. The authors would have you believe that business owners will succumb to the temptation of giving up their profits for the good of the community. Not only do the authors repeatedly promote an organization called the NIEO, they use words that soften their political philosphy. They say the second wave of business ownership is "Stockholders", the third is "Worker Ownership" and the fourth "Communitarian". "Communitarian"? What is that? Sounds like you know what. They base their analyses on exactly zero facts, or at least questionable conclusions. Reading this book was torture. A better read about business and how it should and will operate is "Reframing Organizations" by Bolman and Deal. In case you haven't guessed, I'm a "Capitalitarian".

Rechters in Nederland, Duitsland en de Verenigde Staten verlenen regelmatig bescherming aan catalogi, telefoongidsen, omroepprogramma-gegevens, koerslijsten, bibliografische registers, biografische informatie, nieuwsberichten, wetenschappelijke onderzoeksresultaten, almanakken en - niet te vergeten- feestwijzers en predikbeurtenlijsten.In Auteursrecht op informatie, het proefschrift van P.B. Hugenholtz, wordt onderzocht in hoeverre de auteursrechtelijke theorie met de praktijk verzoend kan worden. Het boek bevat vier hoofdstukken. Het eerste handelt over het begrip informatie, een term waarover veel misverstand bestaat. Het derde hoofdstuk behandelt rechtspraak over de bescherming van feitelijke gegevens en gegevensverzamelingen in Nederland, Duitsland, en de Verenigde Staten. Het boek wordt afgesloten met een uitvoerige beschouwing over de relatie tussen het auteursrecht en de informatievrijheid.Auteursrecht op informatie werd voor het eerst gepubliceerd in 1989, zeven jaar voor de aanvaarding van de Europese Databankrichtlijn en tien jaar voordat in Nederland het 'databankenrecht' in werking trad. Het boek bewijst dat databanken en andere gegevensverzamelingen ook zonder de kunstgreep van een sui generis recht juridische bescherming kunnen vinden. Nu het databankenrecht weer ter discussie staat, heeft het boek een nieuwe actualiteit gekregen.

Good look at agricultural labor during the Depression.......2002-01-08

Grubbs traces the plight of Southern tenant cotton farmers, both black and white, and the effort to provide tenant farmers with job security and financial stability through unionization. The book begins with the economic and agricultural fallout of the Civil War and on to the movement's initial organization, the New Deal, and efforts to join the AFL-CIO. In 1934 two young Socialists organized the Southern Tenants Farmers Union (STFU) near the town of Tyronza, Arkansas, in order to gain fair wages for tenant farmers who were kept in perpetual destitution.

This is a good book about agricultural labor, even if it can be a convoluted read due to its inherent political complexity. "Cry from the Cotton..." is well-researched and copiously noted. Grubbs has used a variety of sources, from government documents, local and union newspapers and magazine articles, to oral interviews, telegrams, and the STFU papers (housed at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill).

The appearance of this comet caused so many panicked inquiries to be made of Pierre Bayle, one of the Enlightenment's greatest thinkers, that he decided to formally respond to them, hence the present work, which first appeared in 1682. The book's principle task was to undermine the influence of "superstition" in political life, and it was here that Bayle made the notorious suggestion, unique in the history of political thought until then, that a decent society of atheists is possible in principle. There is no other English translation of this book in print--the only other version was printed in 1708. This translation is based on a recently revised critical edition of the complete French text and includes a substantial interpretive essay that both elucidates the arguments of the work and indicates the importance of Bayle in the history of the modern Enlightenment.

I have been using this book in conjunction with various programs and articles as a way to guide students of archaeology towards the various technological methods involved in archaeology. It's very helpful, students actually enjoy the writing style which is easy to follow, and although technology changes day-to-day the information contained in this book is broad/general enough to be useful even a few years after its publication. I highly recommend this book for anyone wishing to keep up to date with the many technological changes in archaeological methods.
