Book Description
Have you ever had a great idea? Did you do anything with it? Don’t worry–you are not alone. Most of us have had great ideas but few of us ever do anything about them. Ideation will tell you what to do, how to find out if anyone has thought of it before, how to protect, develop, fund, and market it–regardless of whether it’s business, creative, or scientific in nature, and regardless of whether you are working in a large corporation or at home.

Douglas Graham, a leading expert in the field of innovation, shows business leaders how to realize step-ahead ideas and Thomas Bachmann, a financial innovator shows how he has put innovative ideas into practice
Ideas are the bedrock foundations of companies. Great companies lead with great ideas, but how do great companies develop those ideas? This book explores the development, processing, and execution of new ideas in modern businesses. With interviews with well-known innovators from diverse fields, Ideation explores how companies can better develop creative ideas and bring them to fruition. Bureaucratic organizations have a natural tendency to suppress new ideas rather than support them; this book offers a methodology for bringing ideas to light and growing them to their full potential.
Douglas Graham (New York, NY) is CEO of IDDEX Corp., a company that develops and provides tools and services to assist enterprises in managing innovation. He also serves on the boards of public companies, private companies and charities, and is a frequent advisor to government and Fortune 500 companies. Thomas T. Bachmann (Nassau, Bahamas) is a leading innovator who has created multibillion-dollar investment company in active and passive investments' field and is the first to create Intellectual Property Portfolios to be traded as equities.
Customer Reviews:
Great title but very poor content!.......2004-07-28
The book has a great title, but the content is poor!!
It deals with generality and lacks depth and with no data to backup statements made. Worse of all, when I check the existence of "Innovation Trust", one of the author claims to be the first bank to manage intellectual assets, in which he serves as CEO.
As it turns out, the "bank" does not exist, I only find "Circle Trust Company", a trust company which offer 401K mutual fund, self-directed brokerage opinion, and custody and trust services. According to Connecticut state report it has assets of $3.45 millions. No information talks about intangible/patnet assets with Circle Trust and the billions of IP assets. What a disappointment!
Wonderful Read.......2004-05-28
I think this is a really good book. I enjoyed reading the truth of what goes on in working America. For everyone of us out there who has had an idea, we deserve to shine instead of letting the darkness take hold of them or even worst having another reap from our ideas.
Hogwash!.......2004-05-12
The biggest load of hogwash I have ever read! This book is virtually devoid of the very title that it claims to be analyzing - ideas. Borrows shamefully from every little management cliche that every high-school grader already knows about, talks about ideas and spins them into stories that only PR spin-masters can appreciate, this is a book meant for the trash - the one original idea left
A Great Read!.......2004-04-21
The importance of ideas can't be overemphasized and that is why Graham's book is a must-read for all executives, managers and consultants. This book breaks down the essential process of ideation in a organized and interesting fashion.
After reading this book I have gained a thorough understanding of the nature of innovation and I plan to put it to practical use!

Book Description
With its dense forests and plentiful rainfall, West Virginia and the rest of the Central Appalachian region is an almost perfect habitat for hundreds of varieties of wild mushrooms. For the mushroom hunter, this vast bounty provides sheer delight and considerable challenge. Every outdoor excursion offers the chance of finding a mushroom not previously encountered.
For both the seasoned mycologist and the novice mushroom hunter, Mushrooms of West Virginia and the Central Appalachians serves as a solid introduction to the mushrooms of the region. Some 400 species are described and illustrated with the author's own stunning color photographs, and many more are discussed in the text.
Detailed mushroom descriptions assure confident identifications. Each species account includes remarks about edibility and extensive commentary to help distinguish similar species. A comprehensive glossary of specialized mycological terms is provided.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Book.......2004-07-20
I live in Tennessee. I own about 40 mushroom books and this one is my favorite. It is great to have a book for identification that covers mushrooms found in the south so well. The pictures are excellent. Roody lists possible look-alikes in many of the excellent, detailed descriptions. He also comments on the edibility of each species. Should be an excellent book for beginners and seasoned mushroom hunters alike. Highly recommended.
One of the Best Mushroom Field Guides Ever!.......2004-02-11
I live in New York State and have been collecting mushrooms for years - edible and otherwise. I already own just about every other field guide to identifying mushrooms and other fungi, so when I saw this book for sale, I thought "do I really need another?" Well, it turns out I did. This book is fabulous! The pictures are first rate, and sometimes provide identifying detail that pictures in other books do not. While the "regulars" are there (mushrooms you find illustrated in almost every field guide) it also contains pictures of mushrooms that are common but not regularly pictured in other field guides. Consequently, it allowed me to solve a lot of long-standing "mushroom mysteries" in my backyard. The book contains longer than average "comments" on each species, often providing fascinating information. I highly recommend ths book!
Finally.......2003-12-06
After a decade of waiting for this book, I am certainly not disappointed. As an avid mushroom hunter, I have to say that this is the best field guide I have found.
Book Description
Pulsed-Power Systems describes the physical and technical foundations for the production and application of high-voltage pulses of very high-power and high-energy character. In the initial chapters, it addresses materials, components and the most common diagnostics. In the second part, three categories of applications with scientific and industrial relevance are detailed: production of strong pulsed electric and magnetic fields, intense radiation sources and pulsed electric (plasma) discharges.
Customer Reviews:
Long over due.......2006-10-30
This scholarly work has a good balance of the essentials of pulsed power components and techniques against applications and possible uses of this technology. 99 % of the material on pulsed power subjects is only available in I.E.E.E. Journal and proceedings, with some spill over into the internet as Phd. work. A lot of the technology had been locked in companies like Physics international, Maxwell Labs. Etc. that had to change their direction when the Berlin wall came down because there was no longer a need for high power flash X-ray machines to simulate nuclear weapons effects.
Great ground-up review of pulsed power technology.......2006-09-19
This text is a great ground-up review of pulsed power technology. The text starts with a unified survey (~40 pages) of dielectric breakdown (gas, liquid, solid) in chapter 2, and continues with a brief review of energy storage capacitors, Marx banks, basic inductive pulsers, and rotating machines in chapter 3. Next, the author covers quite a wide variety of opening and closing switching technologies. The author continues with fundamental info on PFNs, MITLs, and brief info on pulse transformers and HV switchmode power supplies. There's a chapter on power and voltage adding, one on diagnostics, and one on typical large pulsed power systems (e.g., Z and Hermes III). I enjoyed the topic of cumulative pulse lines, which I'd never heard of before. I didn't find the final three chapters too useful, which are on commercial and industrial applications, but they may be of interest to you.
This book is quite expensive, but it fills in a lot of practical gaps that P. W. Smith does not cover in his book Transient Electronics, e.g., breakdown, switching, and diagnostics. Smith does, however, cover the topic of pulse generation in greater detail. The information in this book is better organzied and better presented than in Pai and Zhang's Introduction to High Power Pulse Technology, although the latter is so cheap you might as well own a copy. The literature references at the end of the chapters are quite useful (e.g., G. A. Mesyats cites a lot of Russian literature in his book that is not easily available) but they are not any better than Smith's.
The disk included with the book includes a transmission line simulation code LEITER which I found a little hard to use.
My only qualm with this book is the price, really I'm not sure there is any justification for the high price except that it's a good book in a field that doesn't have many (any?) good intro/survey texts. Get your company or your professor to purchase I copy. Overall, highly recommended.
Book Description
The purposes of this book are twofold. First, the various different methods of accessing the THz range discussed here should serve to convince the reader that there have been qualitative and significant improvements over older, more conventional techniques. It should be clear that these improvements enable practical "real-world" applications of THz technology, in a manner which would not have been possible before. The reader should be convinced that this is a realistic goal within the next few years. Second, the demonstrations and feasibility tests described here should serve as compelling evidence of the utility of such devices. Owing to the unique characteristics of THz radiation and its interaction with materials, these devices have substantial advantages over other, competing technologies in a number of different areas.

written in the charming style of a 20th century Jane Austen!.......2002-08-26
I LOVE Charlotte's dramatic and gothic Jane Eyre; I am captivated by the intrigue of Wuthering Heights, but I am charmed and warmed by the gentleness and simply beauty of Agnes Grey. It's plot leaves you wishing that Anne had not died before giving us a sequel! I happened across this jewel of English fiction while searching for Bronte and Austen style books on Amazon.com. Each of the Bronte sisters had a gift for writing and this is one of my favorite novels that I read at least once a year. I like the Everyman's version best because it gives a timeline of the Bronte sisters lives, biographical information about Anne Bronte and includes insights into her life and spiritual growth as a young woman. The poems included at the end of the book are a treasure as well. It is as if, the heroine, Agnes, is actually a reflection of the author herself just as Charlotte reveals her own nature and convictions through Jane Eyre. It is a lovely journey into the social and spiritual struggles and life of a young womean. A finely written piece of literature that should be in every single Christian woman's library.
Short and sweet, but not the Brontes' best work.......2001-07-09
This work of the lesser known Bronte sister is a short and easy to read classic. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a quick introduction to the Bronte's work (the reading level would probably be appropriate for middle school and up). However, the book contains definite overtones of Jane Eyre, so much so that I would say if you have read Jane, you need not bother with Agnes. Like Jane, Agnes is also a plain governess longing for love. Unlike Jane, Agnes Grey has far less mystery in her life. I would say that the story's biggest flaw was its overly sentimental plot, which crosses the line into corny at the end. The poetry section is short, but I enjoyed many of the poems. I am not a poetry expert, but the poems seemed to me to be a little like a mix of the styles of Emily Dickinson and Edgar Allen Poe, but the subject matter was always purely sentimental. If you want to try out this style of literature before committing to reading something longer or if you've read Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and Villette, and you still crave more of the Bronte's work, then you will probably enjoy Agnes Grey. This particular edition is also a good value.
