Computational Methods for Multiphase Flows in Porous Media (Computational Science and Engineering)
Zhangxin Chen , Guanren Huan , and Yuanle Ma Manufacturer: Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematic ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0898716063 |
Product Description
This book offers a fundamental and practical introduction to the use of computational methods, particularly finite element methods, in the simulation of fluid flows in porous media. It is the first book to cover a wide variety of flows, including single-phase, two-phase, black oil, volatile, compositional, nonisothermal, and chemical compositional flows in both ordinary porous and fractured porous media. In addition, a range of computational methods are used, and benchmark problems of nine comparative solution projects organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers are presented for the first time in book form. Computational Methods for Multiphase Flows in Porous Media reviews multiphase flow equations and computational methods to introduce basic terminologies and notation. A thorough discussion of practical aspects of the subject is presented in a consistent manner, and the level of treatment is rigorous without being unnecessarily abstract. Each chapter ends with bibliographic information and exercises. This book can be used as a textbook for graduate or advanced undergraduate students in geology, petroleum engineering, and applied mathematics, and as a reference book for professionals in these fields, as well as scientists working in the area of petroleum reservoir simulation. It can also be used as a handbook for employees in the oil industry who need a basic understanding of modeling and computational method concepts and by researchers in hydrology, environmental remediation, and some areas of biological tissue modeling. Calculus, physics, and some acquaintance with partial differential equations and simple matrix algebra are necessary prerequisites. List of Figures; List of Tables; Preface; Chapter 1: Introduction; Chapter 2: Flow and Transport Equations; Chapter 3: Rock and Fluid Properties; Chapter 4: Numerical Methods; Chapter 5: Solution of Linear Systems; Chapter 6: Single Phase Flow; Chapter 7: Two-Phase Flow; Chapter 8: The Black Oil Model; Chapter 9: The Compositional Model; Chapter 10: Nonisothermal Flow; Chapter 11: Chemical Flooding; Chapter 12: Flows in Fractured Porous Media; Chapter 13: Welling Modeling; Chapter 14: Special Topics; Chapter 15: Nomenclature; Chapter 16: Units; Bibliography; Index.

Fluid Mechanics for Petroleum Engineers (Developments in Petroleum Science)
E. Bobok Manufacturer: Elsevier Science ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0444986685 |
Book Description
Written primarily to provide petroleum engineers with a systematic analytical approach to the solution of fluid flow problems, this book will nevertheless be of interest to geologists, hydrologists, mining-, mechanical-, or civil engineers. It provides the knowledge necessary for petroleum engineers to develop design methods for drilling, production, transport of oil and gas. Basic mechanical laws are applied for perfect fluid flow, Newtonian fluid, non-Newtonian fluid, and multiple phase flows. Elements of gas dynamics, a non-familiar treatment of shock waves, boundary layer theory, and two-phase flow are also included.

Bose-Einstein Condensation (The International Series of Monographs on Physics)
L. Pitaevskii , and S. Stringari Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0198507194 |
Book Description
The book is an introductory text to the physics of Bose-Einstein condensation. This phenomenon, first predicted by Einstein in 1925, has been realized experimentally in 1995 in a remarkable series of experiments whose importance has been recognized by the award of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physics. The condensate is actually a new state of matter, where quantum-mechanical wave functions of atoms behave as coherent matter waves in the same way as coherent light waves in the case of a laser. The authors provide a theoretical presentation of the main concepts underlying the physics of dilute atomic gases in conditions of extremely low temperatures where quantum effects play a crucial role. The main effort is devoted to discussion of the relevant theoretical aspects exhibited by these systems, such as the concept of order parameter, long range order, superfluidity and coherence. The mathematical formalism is presented in a form convenient for practical use. The book develops the theory of Bose gases starting from the pioneering Bogoliubov approach and gives special emphasis to the new physical features exhibited by non-uniform gases which are produced in the recent experiments with magnetic and optical traps. These features include the determination of the equilibrium profiles, the collective oscillations, the mechanism of the expansion of the gas after releasing the trap, the interference patterns obtained by overlapping two condensates, the rotational properties revealing the effects of superfluidity (quantized vortices, behaviour of the moment of inertia), the Josephson-like phenomena associated with the coherence of the phase, the beyond mean field phenomena exhibited by quantum gases in conditions of reduced dimensionality (1D and 2D) etc. The book also discusses the analogies and differences with the physics of "classical" superfluids like liquid helium and introduces some of the major features of trapped Fermi gases at low temperature, pointing out the consequences of superfluidity.Customer Reviews:

Bose-Einstein Condensation in Atomic Gases (Proceedings of the International School of Physics)
S. Stringari , C. E. Wieman , and Italy) International School of Physics Enrico Fermi (1998 Varenna Manufacturer: Ios Pr Inc ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0967335558 |
Book Description
Altough first proposed by Einstein in 1924, Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) in a gas was not achieved until 1995 when, using a combination of laser cooling and trapping, and magnetic trapping and evaporation, it was first observed in rubidium and then in lithium and sodium, cooled down to extremely low temperatures. This book brought together many leaders in both theory and experiments on Bose-Einstein condensation in gases. Their lectures provided a detailed coverage of the experimental techniques for the creation and study of BEC, as well as the theoretical foundation for understanding the properties of this novel system. Many exciting aspects coming out of research on condensates were presented. The timing for this book was excellent since the field is still small enough to cover fully, but is also clearly about to undergo a major expansion. This volume provides the first systematic review of the field and the many developments that have taken place in the past three years. Silicon-based MicrophotonicsCustomer Reviews:
