A Great Overview of the World of Pooh.......2000-10-03

Christopher Finch is one of the premier authors on Disney and animation history. Winnie-the-Pooh: A Celebration of the Silly Old Bear is definitely one of his best works. While it may not quite match up to the sheer power of his most recognized book on Disney, The Art of Walt Disney, it is definitely a wonderful look at Winnie-the-Pooh. The book appropriately starts out with a look at A.A. Milne, the author of the original Pooh books. The chapter on Milne is clear, concise, and very informative. As the book slides into the Disney version of Pooh is starts to "Disnify". There is the chapter on the four Pooh shorts, the chapter on each of the characters, etc. While these sections are interesting, they seem a little static. There could be more on the relationships and interactions between the characters. The book serves as more of a basic guide to the world of Pooh than anything else.

If you want a nice gift book that is a fantastic overview of how the Disney pooh came to be, you will probably enjoy this book. There is yet to be a book published, though, that truly delves into how Disney made Pooh such a worldwide smash success, but right now this is the definitive book on the Disney Pooh.

A Must for Collectors!.......2000-08-25

The greatest thing about this book is the large number of pictures that show the evolution of the "pooh" phenomenon. It has a large number of cell reproductions, artist storyboard sketches, as well as drawings from the original books. The writing is also wonderful, covering the orginal books, each of the movies, and pooh collecting! A must have! I received one as a gift, and am ordering copies for my pooh collecting friends.

This book is based on a fallacy. Many Autistics do not want to be cured. Some of us are computer programmers, scientists, and doctors. We should be celebrated for our neurological difference not disparage. Our brains are different than yours. The persistant neuralism (prejudice against our kind) is amazing.

the love of two wonderful parents.......2003-10-16

I think this book is amazing because it let's you go into the mind of the author who is a man full of love for his son. He writes this book as if he is sitting in the room talking to you, and I like that. It's easy to read and easy to understand. And that is what people look for especially on Autism. I applaud this man and his family for doing wonderful things for the Austism Society and I'm proud to say that I'm a part of his world. I hope more people will read his books and get to know the love and suffering he and his family have been through. If anything he should get a medal in his honor.

Revealing truth of homelife with an autistic child.......2001-12-07

Bill is so candid in his telling of the Davis family's life with Chris. He gives so much of himself and asks nothing in return. He is constantly out in the community advocating for not only his child but all children and adults with Autism. I'm proud to say I know him and I throughly enjoyed his book. If your child has been diagnosed you really should read this. Some parts will make you cry but many will make you laugh and say "Oh my god I'm not the only one!" Boy was I surprised to read the heart felt story about a father, a mother and two children caught up in the baffling world of Autism. The Davis' obstacle ridden devotion to further education and community awareness of this disease is nothing less than admirable, and hopes that through Mr. Davis' advocacy work he can compel others to open their eyes. I would encourage everyone to read this book, you will never regret or forget it.

An essential read........2000-03-27

For anyone that cares about the journey of African-Americans in the 20th century, this book is a must. Carl Rowan has written a thought-provoking, entertaining memoir that glows with the authority of a brilliant man. From his early days in segregated McMinville, Tenn., through his World War II Navy service, undergraduate years at Oberlin College, the incredible work he did as a courageous and gifted newspaper journalist exposing Southern bigotry in the 1950s, and much more, "Breaking Barriers" is the story of a life that has mattered.

For those who may see Rowan as some sort of racist demagogue, this book should reveal something else. This is a man who was one of the most outspoken critics of Martin Luther King, even as he acknowledged the man's great achievements. He is also critical of Jesse Jackson and other prominent figures in the black community. He is also unafraid to explore both the good and bad sides of Lyndon Johnson.

But quite rightly, his most potent venom is reserved for Ronald Reagan, who, as Rowan explains, single-handedly did more harm to African-Americans than any president since Woodrow Wilson.

A highly recommended work.

Allen performed the wedding ceremony for my husband and I in 2005. I was excited to hear about - and read - 'Transitions'. My favorite parts were the chapters on 'Steven' and 'Don't Judge me Until...' Allen has an easy writing style that allows the reader to instantly connect with the subject matter. Many parts are very personal and raw at times taking us out of our comfort zone with the realization that even those who are abundantly blessed are still challenged with emotional and painful trials and tribulations. Allen 'transitions' beautifully through them, the poetry and the short stories, leaving us empowered if not a little more spiritually grounded! Donna J.
