Book Description
This book on legal ethics is the premier text that examines the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, the ABA Code of Judicial Conduct, the American Law Institute's new Restatement of the Law Governing Lawyers, and the case law. The book is analytical, concise, and thorough. Empirical studies show that many lawyers are unaware of even basic information about legal ethics, the law governing lawyers. Older lawyers, who draw a disproportionate number of malpractice suits, often have neither formally studied ethics nor kept up with developments in the law. Many malpractice suits arise out of ethics violations, such as disqualification of lawyers for conflicts of interest, multi-disciplinary practice, and the attorney-client evidentiary and ethical privilege. The Ethics Rules are laws typically adopted by court rules in the same way that the Rules of Civil Procedure are law. These Ethics Rules are just as complex as the Civil Practice Rules or the Evidence Rules. Many of the Ethics Rules cannot be known through some sort of innate or hereditary awareness automatically infused in ordinary human beings once they are admitted to the bar. Unless a student wants to emulate those lawyers who draw a disproportionate number of malpractice suits, he or she will need to understand the law of Legal Ethics. And to do that, one needs this book.

Book Description
This one volume book is intended to offer law students an analysis of, and an initiation to, this complex topic by examining the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, and the ABA Model Code of Judicial Conduct. Many states and federal courts have followed the templates that these ABA model rules have proposed. Law students who intend to practice law must master the intricacies of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct, because these Rules will govern them. And, even though few law students will become judges, they must also master the ABA Model Code of Judicial Conduct so they will know when, for example, to seek disqualification of a judge, or when they should not present a gift to a judge. Because the American Bar Association has been the undisputed leader in developing ethics rules, this book is organized around the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and the ABA Model Rules of Judicial Conduct. These rules have become very influential with the courts. This text also analyzes the law under the ABA Model Code of Professional Responsibility, because some jurisdictions still base their law on the ABA Model Code. The book also examines the contributions of the American Law Institute's recently completed RESTATEMENT OF THE LAW GOVERNING LAWYERS, THIRD.

Environmental Co-Operation and Institutional Change: Theories and Policies for European Agriculture (New Horizons in Environmental Economics)
Manufacturer: Edward Elgar Publishing ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1840648414 |
Book Description
Although the history of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) is dominated by a process of centralization, growing pressures to integrate agri-environmental problems into the CAP have revealed the need to embrace decentralized approaches in an efficient federal structure. Indeed, in recent years it has become increasingly evident that the agricultural sector must undergo fundamental changes in order to enter an era of sustainable development. The authors do not believe that this will be an easy process, not only because agricultural policies in Europe are dominated by specific interest groups, but primarily because integrating environmental aspects into the CAP requires difficult institutional change at different levels. Centralized decision making at the EU level has characterized recent agricultural policy and the authors argue that centralized and hierarchical governance structures may fail to produce adequate solutions if they are not linked to regional and more diverse institutional arrangements. They demonstrate how these new institutional arrangements should be designed and how this change can be organized. In particular, they highlight the need for cooperation, and the participation of farmers, as a strategy to cope with agri-environmental issues and resource management problems.
Addressing the value of co-operative strategies to achieve sustainable development and cope with agri-environmental problems, this book will be of great interest to agricultural economists and those with an interest in ecological reforms of agricultural policies. It will also be particularly relevant to policymakers within EU nations, as well as policymakers within the countries of Eastern and Central Europe who will be among the first to be admitted to the EU in the next wave of expansion.

The Internet Primer: Getting Started On the Internet, Version 3
Fritz Erickson , and John Vonk Manufacturer: Career Education ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0073032034 |
Book Description
If you look in the computer section in a bookstore, you will see a number of books on how to use the Internet. Many of these books are filled with technical jargon and loaded with acronyms such as TCP/IP, SLIP, PPP, http, DNS, VT100, and X.400. The size of the books and the large number of abbreviations suggest that learning to use the Internet is a complicated process. Not so. Learning to use the Internet is not very difficult if you have a little guidance. On the other hand, learning to use the Internet can be difficult if you limit yourself to a trial-and-error approach. The goal of the authors is to show you how to access and use some of the Internet's more common features. You will not be an Internet expert. Instead you will have just enough knowledge to get started.

Binary Rare Earth Oxides
Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1402025688 |
Book Description
Binary Rare Earth Oxides is the first book in the field of rare earth oxides that provides coverage from the basic science through to recent advances. This book introduces the unique characteristics of the binary rare earth oxides with their chemistry, physics and applications. It provides a comprehensive review of all the characteristics of rare earth oxides, essential for scientists and engineers involved with rare earths, oxides, inorganic materials, ceramics, and structures. The binary rare earth oxides bring us a variety of interesting characteristics. Understanding their fundamental mechanisms builds a bridge between solid-state chemistry and materials science.
The book begins with a brief introduction to binary rare earth oxides, their physical and chemical stabilities, polymorphism, crystal structures and phase transformation and the association with current applications. The book goes on to present the band structure of the oxides using several quantum chemical calculations, which belong to a newly developed area in the binary rare earth oxides. Central to this chapter are the characterizations of electrical, magnetic and optical properties, as well as details of single crystal growth and particle preparation methods that have progressed in recent years. Later chapters concentrate on thermo-chemical properties and trace determination techniques. The final chapter contains a variety of useful applications in various fields such as phosphors, glass abrasives, automotive catalysts, fuel cells, solid electrolytes, sunscreens, iron steels, and biological materials.
This book is an invaluable resource for materials scientists and solid-state physicists and chemists with an interest in rare earth oxides, as well as advanced students and graduates who require an approach to familiarize them with this field. This book provides guidance through a comprehensive review of all the characteristics of binary rare earth oxides.

As the title says, your basic NMR spectroscopy catelog........2000-12-09
a handbook for spectroscopists.......2000-01-22
Each experiment is set out with a schematic of the pulse program, phase cycling, and processing parameters, as well as literature citations and practical examples. It is particularily useful for users of Bruker spectrometers, as a lot of the nomenclature is identical to those of the Bruker instruments.
People who have never done a heteronuclear 2D experiment could get an acceptable spectrum with very little other lterature.
