Bobbo is a traditional weaver from Ghana, where his ancestors have been weavers for generations. His young son, Kweku, learns from him, just as Bobbo learned from his father. Through Kweku's eyes, we see family and community life in the small fishing village of Denu. Kweku learns that in life, just as in weaving, "one thread is weak, while threads woven together are strong." Magnificent full color photographs.

This book describes the daily life of a family of weavers of Kente cloth in Ghana. Every page has color photos of African homes, markets, people, and cloth patterns. Ideal for children who enjoy colorful pictures of other countries and for adults wishing to learn more about the art of Kente strip weaving. Includes lists of resources (books and websites)for both kids and adults. I particularly like this book because it shows how indigenous peoples can enter the modern world without sacrificing their cultural traditions.

With this book you can understand how much tradition is keept up by the poeple who make these beautiful cloths. Excelent picutes demonstrate in a unique way how the cloth is made from the beginning to the end. A good investment if you like to learn about African clothing and weaving tradition! this is a good book for a technician or an engineer trying to get up to speed on the subject. Some typos and misprints are amusing. There are a number of disconnections between the illustrations and the text which occasionally make for difficult reading.

The book overall is very well written. The tuning section is bit weak. Rebiltz explains the methodology well but there's not enough for a novice. It needs more exercise, listening techniques, explanations on physical nature of pins and pin block relationships - i.e., hammer techniques and pin settings. More information and techniques on using electronic/computer aided tuning methods will also help beginners. I have bought this book with the hope of improving my tuning skills but it falls short. The rest of the content is excellent.

A Must Have Book!.......2006-08-17

When I first received this book I have to admit that my brain froze with some of the technical jargon. Then I found the chapter on how to open the piano and everything made sense. I have always viewed pianos like I view cars. If you hit the key, or in a car, turn the key it should work! If not then I'm lost. But with this book's help I've already been able to repair two non functioning keys and I understand the problems that still need fixing. Also I was motivated to try and fix some problems by myself after being told by two professionals that they charge $100.00 just to come to the house. The piano was a freebie so I'm comfortable trying some of the repairs myself and I'm very excited that I may be able to do all of them with the help of this book. If you are looking to repair or refurbish an inexpensive piano then you will not be sorry if you buy this book. However if you have an expensive piano you may want the pro's first. This book could help you understand what they are talking about and keep you from paying for unnecessary repairs. It gives great insight on uprights, spinets, and grand pianos with detailed illustrations.

I found this book to be a great book on artistically making PANORMIC Photos, and More...

It is an excellent book in showing different techniques as well as the art of "Assembling" Panoramic pictures. But it is also a work of art in helping you get an idea of the artistic and somewhat abstract way of doing this.

I followed the techniques, for example taking multiple shot of the same subject and then assembling that together, as another example I used the planning that is pointed out in this book, and multiple shots from the same view to make it super high resolution.

I used PhtotoShop for the "Stitching" and I got the same outstanding results.

This is a Great book for photographers.

Small but really useful.......2007-02-11

This book is small but really comprehensive. Through specific examples people that knows the secret of panoramic photography, gives tips & tricks for a good panoramic photo using normal cameras and lenses.
In the beginning i read it very quick but then i discover more more than even in the smallest paragraph there is a nice tip.
The only "bad" is that most of the writers use realviz stitcher as main stitching program. Why this is "bad"? Because the program costs more than 400 euro. There is also a express release around 100 euro but with limited use.
But the tips and tricks are still there. I personally use PTGui with Pano2cube software and i can use most of this books advices. it is highly recommended for the photographer he wants to involved in panoramic photography.

New photographer.......2005-12-17

I came to Moab Utah to take photos of the great national parks and the state park (Dead Horse SP). After two weeks I bought the Really Right Stuff equipment for making horizontal and vertical panoramas. The photoshop CS2 books and the internet suggested that joining them would be easy to do. Hoever, this great book, shows that much more skill is needed in taking the photographs and using the software. The book gives an outline of the steps needed to compose the 8 digital panoramas but does not give exact details because considerable experiment is needed. In the first chapter where 3 images are joined to form an ice fall in an ice cave the photographer took 200 images. In the panoramic beach scene the waves were coninuously moving during the shooting so that an incredible amount of editing was needed to form a great image. This book shows what can be done if skill is used at every step Now I realise how much incredible work Max Lyons had to do to compose his terabyte image of Bryce Canyon. "The Photoshop CS2book for Digital Photographers" has a small chapter on panorams.
For some reason "Assembling Panoramic Photos" is well hidden in the Amazon search terms.

Few books on photograph go into much detail or depth on handling panorama format photos, which makes the advice of Assembling Panoramic Photos: A Designer's Notebook important. Another feature which lends unique value: leading French photographers and artists present their techniques, translated by William Rodarmor for English readers, with step-by-step examples of technique beginning with initial shots and progressing to specific panoramic techniques. The end result is an essential reference which should be a part of any solid photography book collection.

A picture may well be worth a thousand words, but 8 pictures doesn't add up to a a book. This book takes the reader through 8 photographs by 8 different photographers who outline the techniques they used to generate them. Although some of the pictures are impressive, this book is a bit short on detail. If you are looking to get started with Panoramic pictures, you'd best start with some other books.

Excellent Coverage.......2000-10-30

This is an excellent book. It is a tad old, but the material hasn't really become dated. It contains what is probably the most condensed information on assembly programming I've seen. (If you're a good programmer and already know assembly for one processor, you could probably learn the assembly language of all the architectures covered in this book, from the book.) The writing isn't at all stuffy, and the footnotes are frequently a good laugh.
