People learn at different rates and in a variety of different ways - reading, listening, seeing, and doing. That is why Career Publishing, Inc., and the Professional Truck Driver Institute (PTDI) have taken the material contained in Trucking: Tractor-Trailer Driver Handbook/Workbook and produced a set of instructional audiotapes. Designed for self-study or classroom use, these tapes are patterned after and meet the standards established by the FHWA in their Model Curriculum (Proposed Minimum Standards for Training Tractor-Trailer Drivers, 1985). They also meet the standards established by PTDI for their certification program.

The tapes address not only the body of knowledge a driver needs to know and understand, they also teach the procedures that, with practice, will enable the student to become a skilled driver. Because tractor-trailer drivers are placed in the unique position of being entrusted with expensive equipment and cargo as well as representing the industry to the public at large, these tapes stress the importance of developing the traits and demonstrating the behavior that characterize true professionals. The driver as a person is also addressed by emphasizing good heath and safety routines.

Career knows that instructional tapes must proceed at a slower rate than normal conversations. This allows the listener to absorb all the vital information. A normal conversation flows at approximately 150 words per minute, but the Trucking: Tractor-Trailer Driver Audiotape material is narrated at a rate of approximately 120 words per minute. Truck driver training schools, motor carriers, and individual teachers will find these tapes readily meet their needs as they seek to provide the trucking industry with professional drivers who are knowledgeable, safe, and skillful.

The tonal harmony workbook contains exemplary exercises to provide efficient practice of the material covered in the text. The audio CD are definitely helpful in supplying aural guidance, and the Final Workbook CD-ROM is perfect for the Theory student (not yet in need of the complete, and extremely costly, version of Finale). Overall, the Tonal Harmony text and workbook are a great asset to any student of Music Theory over the lifetime of his/her musical career.

an important book.......2005-05-30

This is a truly important book. There have been mixed reviews for it so far, but I believe those who think it's not worth being written are clearly not reading it with an open mind. The topics of effeminate gay men and the preconcieved notions we all have about them to some degree are discussed in depth and points and arguments are brought up that most of us have never considered. This is an enlightening and relevant book for anyone concerned with feminism, gay and lesbian rights, or transgender rights.
Reading it gave me a better understanding of how all those groups are tied together and how we all fight the same enemy, and how we are quite often our own enemies in the political and social arenas by not supporting one another.

This Is An Important Book.......2002-05-13

I have long been fascinated with the way in which gay men "buy into" straight thinking; to wit, that anything less than "masculine" is not to be desired. I mean, how many personal ads do you see where the guy is looking for a "fem" guy? Bergling has taken the whole discussion of preconceived gender roles and given it a personal face with the reporting of what real people think. I found the book very helpful in that regard and can only hope it stirs the thinking of those who think that anything "fem" is to be avoided at best and derided at worst. Read this book!
The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I wanted more; it ended too soon.

Goood Stuff!.......2002-01-17

this book may be a little on the short side but it is nicely written and above all you can identify with it, whether you are staight, gay, or bi. there is a little hidden wisdom in it for everybody if you just look hard enough with an open enough mind. i myself am not the most ruffneck, gymboi, denim and leather kinda guy, but the book opened my eyes to a harsh truth about the gay world. and i am not going to disclose that truth here cause then what would the point be of reading the book yourself. it portrays all the stereotypes of gay men with harsh honesty about "straight-acting" and "femmie boi" traits, with surprising compassion to both side of the spectrum.

A Poor Excuse for Gay Literature, Yea, Any Literature.......2001-11-20

The topic of this book wasn't one that I ever thought needed to be addressed so thoroughly. It's pretty basic, isn't it? Societally...culturally...it is drilled into us that the man is the caregiver, the provider, the strong rock, all traits we attribute to masculinity. Thus when a man is effeminate acting we, albeit often subconciously, assume he doesn't have these traits and dismiss him, fear him, or loathe him. The reason gay men have a dislike for the effeminate acting amongst them is because they have a form of internalized homophobia that allows them to buy into the stereotype of what it takes to be a "real man." And until the whole world gets past this negative stereotype, the gay community won't, either. It hardly needed a book to reveal it. Bergling, a self-proclaimed "straight-acting" and masculine man, writes a trite, poorly arranged piece of tripe that only verifies what I'd feared about the gay community: they'll soak up anything and praise it if it's all about them.

Wow........2001-05-29

It's pretty rare that I've read a book that I would call 'important'. This one is. He addresses a subject matter that I have debated endlessly with friends, family and partners and does so in a balanced and fascinating manner. The book is splendid and the topic fascinating. I'm grateful to him for writing a book and shedding some sensitive and impassioned light on a very explosive subject. You will be changed by having read it.

Easy to learn, easy to use, this book guides you in a very practical way through each step in e.learning instructional design. Besides you may use many of its information for computer based training (CBT)too. Step by step, he develops each chapter with information and examples, it even shows the computer page. Very interesting the way he organized the Activate Learning Chapter and the ideas at Motivate Learners Chapter. Even when it is a thick book you may read it quite fast and find a lot of support and ideas to work with. Very Useful.

Hortons make the complex clear.......2003-07-24

William and Katherine Horton have written another excellent book. Their latest, E-Learning Tools and Technologies, provides a phenomenal amount of information about the tools and technologies that can be used to develop, manage, and deliver e-learning content. The authors cut through the clutter to clearly and succinctly explain the different types of tools, and their functionality and capabilities. Unlike many other technology books, Horton and Horton do readers a great service: they actually examine the different tools available in the commercial marketplace and share value-added information designed to help you select the best e-learning tools for your purposes.

Horton answers What and How instead of Who!.......2003-06-26

As one of the previous reviewers said Horton books are always a weath of information. This book is that and more. As an experienced practitioner in this space you'd think I'd know this stuff. And I do but it didn't stop me from reading this book cover to cover and enjoying every minute of it.

My favorite part is the Bill, Kit and Curmudgeon cartoons. They really proivde different perspectives about various issues. These are common views in real life and how they are expressed and addressed give this book an edge no other book on this topic has.

All this in addition to Bill and Kit's easily readable writing style and depth of knowledge. You can't lose when you buy this book. It's worth every penny and a lot more.

E-Learning Tools and Technologies.......2003-05-29

The Horton books are always a rich source of information but this one is a huge time-saver. It condenses into one (not too short) source all of the many years of experience that the Hortons have had in dealing with all of the issues involved in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining e-learning. It is arranged in such a way that if your issue is software, you can get right there. If it's hardware, the same.

This book will help you avoid the pitfalls that so many organizations have encountered in implementing e-learning. Bill and "Kit" demystify the hype. E-learning has been oversold to business, industry, and education, in many ways and there is so much available today to choose from you can end up in "analysis paralysis" and never move in any direction. Another use for the book is as a resource if you work in an organization where someone dictates "moving to the web." "A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing" the adage goes. You can use the information in this book to connect the intracies to show that it's easier to say than it is to do.

This is the most up-to-date and thorough book I have seen on this very complicated, complex, and confusing topic.

Helpful, but not as clear as his other books.......2003-02-26

This book dives deep down into the process of selecting the precise software and hardware one needs to create, deliver and access e-learning. As in his previous books, Horton has done an admirable job at presenting the tools, and the process for selecting them, into small, step by step discussions.

However, I have two significant quibbles with this book.

First, it begins with chapter after chapter on all the individual tools you might possibly use and concludes with the process for deciding what you need. To me that is akin to starting off a book written to help someone decide what type of home they want, with chapters on all the different types of roofs or windows there are, rather than first walking readers through such important questions as: how big is your family? and do you intend to entertain?, which instantly narrow your best options. Reading this book, I found myself quickly bogged down in deep detail on tools I learned I might not even need.

Secondly, many of the e-learning tool categories overlap in functionality, and some tools do it all. If this book had provided specific reviews of the best tools out there and how their features co-mingle, it would have been a big help. Instead, he neutrally lists scores of products in several of the categories discussed.

I did come away from this book with a solid understanding of the tool categories. Unfortunately, I am still pretty befuddled as to how to wade through all the complexities of those tool categories and how they relate to my objectives to decide which tools to buy.

Unbeatable Books for the Aquarist.......2007-01-20

All of the Aqualog books are excellent value, although they are not particularly cheap. They are full to the brim with first class colour photographs and to reproduce these in a book is an expensive process. Whether they are about the beautiful L Number now coming into the aquarist trade or some other species of fish they are the most comprehensive identification books you can buy. They never become dated because as new fish become available to the aquarist trade the books are updated. There is not a lot of literature on African cichlids so this book is invaluable.

They do not deal with the basics of fish keeping, there are many and varied books that do that. They are in the main a fish identification encyclopaedia and not a lot more. But for those aquarists who are particularly interested in a single species they are indispensable.

Fatastic identification book for plecos.......2005-10-17

This book is the best Loricariidae Identification book, it has massive of good quality pictures, it tells reader how big the species can be and little bit about how to keep them in captive. For each L number, there is a brief intro at the beginning of the book. Anyone loves plecos must own this book.

Very good. The L's reference book. Not good at all if what you're really looking is how to maintain, breed or make your Pleco happier.
But if you just want to browse all species known so far, or recognize any Loricariidae you encounter - this is it. Lots of good pictures, all L Numbers up to 350, and LDAs up to 76 covered with a short symbols near the picture, translating into how much they grow, what they eat, how big should your tank be, kind of water conditions needed, etc...
Mainly targeted at shopkeepers who always have a real hard time to identify this fishes. I love Plecos, so it was a must have for me!
