Joe Philip's Review.......2003-05-02
I really liked this book of the way it is written for easy understanding and examples. Also the author is very helpful in adding more insights into the various topics and even to the extent of communicating with one on one. I really recommend this book to any programmer.
Much better than the user manual shipped with the product.......2002-04-16
Excellent book - does not waste words and full of useful code examples.
Great primer for the beginning CVI developer.......2002-01-25
I found the book a must have when you begin with CVI. It should be on your shelf right above your PC while you are on your 5th can of coke digging in code at 3 am. I was very pleased that the author responded back to my tech e_mail. He is a class guy. Thank you, Mr. Khalid
Great Book for Someone Starting Out.......2001-09-28
This is a really good book for someone who is starting out using Labwindows CVI. I had a little knowledge of C but the book really did a good job of filling in the blanks and refreshing my memory. After only reading the first few chapters I was programing great user interfaces over the GPIB. I have already recommended this book to a number of fellow students.
If you need to use LabWindows/CVI, get this book!.......2001-04-05
This is truly an excellent book; a real must for any LabWindows/CVI beginner.
Each section uses well thought out examples to demonstrate the features and libraries available to the programmer. The topic areas covered in this book ensure that the user can quickly generate code that will produce professional looking solutions for any application. The GPIB and RS232 tutorials are superb, providing essential background information in both these crucial areas.
A real must for any CVI developer!
Book Description
This explicitly feminist look at women and work presents data and research on the wide range of work performed by women in our society, and analyzes it from the distinct theoretical perspective of socialist feminism. It highlights the lives, the work, and the experiences of women of different races and classes through the different types of work they do. Addresses the full range of women's work--productive work done in the labor market, reproductive work performed mainly in the home, and the additional work women perform for the state (by the state regulation of women's lives in the areas of employment and children). Contrasts the socialist feminist perspective with other major theoretical perspectives from sociology and women's studies. Expresses the voices and experiences of women through qualitative research data and excerpts from the creative literature (by and about women, including women of color). Features original tables that describe the contemporary socio-economic standing of women in the U.S. For anyone interested in women's studies, the sociology of women, gender roles, social stratification, women cross-culturally, work and occupations.
Customer Reviews:
What a perfectly delightful book!.......2000-11-26
This book should be read annually, before the big plans for Thanksgiving begin. It is incredibly funny, inspirational and sometimes sad. Colorful images of, often ridiculous, personal experiences are delightfully written with a talent for relating the experiences, the reader has often shared, in such a way that one laughs and cries all at the same time. Will 10 strings of lights really light up the 27 year-old blue spruce which beloved husband George has suddenly decided must be lit? What is an "Angel of Death Cookie?"
It is obvious the author finds great peace and love from her relationship with God, which she passes on in her own wonderful way. Regardless of your depth of faith or to whom, you can appreciate and be inspired by such prayers like "Thank you, Lord, for the miracle of the crackers and cheese ball that fed the multitudes," and "Lord, help me remember to pace myself one stitch at a time this holiday season, and to make you the canvas to which I sew the pieces of my heart."
After reading this book, I found I had an incredible need to read the author's other books. I am, now, discovering that my reading of these, newly purchased, books may result in my screwing up all of my "perfect" Christmas plans. So be it! I just can't stop myself!
Book Description
Emerging from a poor, stereotypically white-trash childhood in Detroit, this vengeful hip-hop devotee soon turned his anger into an art form and shot to global notoriety. Eminem has written two multi-platinum best-selling albums of surreally inventive, vicious, scattergun brilliance and become the world’s premier rapper and an icon for disaffected teenagers everywhere. Along the way, though, he’s been accused of homophobia, endorsing drug abuse, encouraging violence against women, and flirting with incarceration—a fate many see as inevitable for this psychologically flawed modern antihero. So where does Marshall Mathers end and Slim Shady begin? Who, in short, is this enigma — the person indubitably considered today’s most contradictory and controversial entertainer know as Eminem? Containing 60 fantastic full-color photographs, this illustrated biography is a celebration of the uniquely provocative and complex rapper who advises his young fans, “Don’t do drugs, have unprotected sex, or be violent—leave that to me.”
Customer Reviews:
Great Product!.......2007-07-17
First of all the book is in excellent condition. The book itself is great! I loved reading it....I have had it for about 10 days now and I've already read it twice....cover to cover.
Definetly a must have item.
If it came with a 10 dollar bill, I'd pay 4 for it.......2006-04-13
If you have heard the songs on the albums covered, and ever read the album covers, save the ink trees and paper wasted on this lame caper. The lyrics and songs are full of misquotes, nothing novel or of note was wrote, paraphrasing the misheard words of spitfire rhymes I've heard a thousand times and apparently this punk "author" had transcribed. Other reviewers explained that is was a lame biography but showed stories that transpired that inspired the spirit of the lyrics you hear, but they obviously were as frightfully uninsightful as the writer. Let me save you the six bucks for the used with the truth: When it's slim spittin' about drugs, it's for fun and humor...When it's Em about family, it's addressin' the rumors...When it's a diss it's clear and every lyric is what your hear and means, love Em or hate `im, what is said verbatim.
A The Story of Eminem Through His Songs.......2004-02-15
The book has a great presentation and describes most of the songs Eminem appeared in or wrote. From his first album, Infinite, to the development of Slim Shady in the Slim Shady EP to getting picked up by Dr Dre in the Slim Shady LP to the other songs in Marshal Mathers and Eminem Show as well as collaborations and 8 Mile. Not really a bio, but a good compliment to his books.
I
<3 Eminem and this Book!!! ~Stephanie (15 yrs old).......2003-12-28
I really liked this book. It contains really good pictures of him. It has the reasons for why Eminem wrote all of the songs he did, from the Slim Shady EP, to the Slim Shady LP, to the Marshall Mathers LP, to the Eminem Show, to the 8 Mile soundtrack. It talks about struggles in his life with his mother, Debbie, and Kim. It also talks about his daugter, Hailie Jade. If you are expecting a book all about his life, though, then you shouldn't get this book because it basically describes the reasons for writing each song. I enjoyed this book and if you are a huge Eminem fan like I am, then I think that you will like this book too!!!

Book Description
Americans for generations have been raised with the mantra that we can grow up to be anything we want to be, achieve anything we can imagine. How many of us believe the message? Dream big. It is a fundamental ideology of unbounded opportunity underscoring our drive to succeed. Yet for many Americans the reality, no matter how hard they try, is far from the visions of glory, the unattainable dream of rags to riches that leaves them feeling like failures.
To understand this ideology and its effect on society, Lawrence E. Mitchell instructs us to look at the myth of individualism that pervades our laws, our social thought, our institutions, and our philosophies. It is the touchstone of our national debates on welfare reform, salary equity, FDA regulations, and a criminal defendant's right to a fair trial-and it even infiltrates our private lives every time we argue about the division of household chores or television time. In Stacked Deck, Mitchell shows us how this artificial reality buries the way we truly live.
Mitchell uses examples drawn from history, politics, law, and culture to show how our singular concern with fairness has diminished our sense of vulnerability, so that our ideas of justice, equality, and efficiency are modeled on the capabilities of the strongest in society. Large scale examples-such as blue collar layoffs and corporate downsizing, natural disasters and catastrophic illnesses-illustrate the rickety bridge between comfort and disaster. We must be reminded that we are all vulnerable to the forces of economics, society, politics, and nature. Thus, Mitchell proposes, those who start out at the top tend to stay there, just as the weak tend to remain weak.
Stacked Deck does more than outline this problem of American selfishness; it proposes a solution that is nothing less than a massive reconception of the way we relate to one another. Mitchell retains what is productive about the myth of the self-reliant individual, while asserting what is necessary to restore a sense of community. He suggests a sweeping intellectual recovery of fairness available to all levels of American society, thereby reclaiming our true sense of responsibility to others in society.
Customer Reviews:
An exceptionally well-thought-out exposition on fairness........1999-06-19
Mitchell asks the question each and every one of us should ask ourselves at every opportunity, "Why do we treat the obviously vulnerable as different and vulnerability as pathological?" Then he states what should be obvious but is decidedly not: "A society that cares for your child will be a society in which your child cares for others." This book deserves a wide audience.
Stacked Deck is a must read!.......1998-04-22
Larry Mitchell has written a heartfelt and compassionate book that sucessfully debunks the American myth of self-reliance at all costs. If you have ever wondered why we have lost a sense of community, why the rich get richer while others do not, or why we have lost the valuable human connections that make life worth living, you must read his book. Mitchell adeptly shows why we are all vulnerable in some way and why we should care about the less fortunate -- who have had the deck stacked against them by our institutions and our thoughtless devotion to self-reliance. Stacked Deck is a must read. If we pay attention to Mitchell's argument, we might make a more compassionate world.
Read this book because you care........1998-02-22
Some authors, in effort to strengthen their own message, try and impress the reader with intellectual jargon. Instead, it puts many readers to sleep (and the book back on the shelf). Other authors, in effort to attract a broader audience, dilute their message with simple prose and, unfortunately, simplistic ideas. Mitchell's recipe for success is his ability to toe the line without reducing the impact of his message. This book should be read by every person who is not an Ivy League graduate, a country club member, or a BMW owner--and, more importantly, this book should be read by every person who is.

Prima's guide to MYST: URU; an informative review........2006-07-05
As a long time explorer in the MYST universe, I am very familiar with its mythos and conventions, and therefore any product which deals with these comes under close examination for validity and usefulness. I am glad to report that as they so often do, PRIMA has gotten it right in their guide to MYST: URU. The guide serves two purposes, firstly to aid you in solving the game's puzzles if (and when) you get stuck, and secondly to enhance the players gaming experience with its artwork, hints and extra information both about the game and its creators, Cyan.
The 'explorers aid' sections are divided between a fast walkthrough, giving the most direct path from beginning to end, and also a more immersive 'narrated' walkthrough giving softer hints for solving the puzzles and helping to creatively visualise the exploration experience. Both are useful, the former if you want only to complete the game and see all its 'puzzle secrets' revealed, and latter if you prefer to truly immerse yourself in discovering the 'artistic secrets' and exploring the ancient cultures and histories created by Cyan. This second portion is written from the point of view of a fictional explorer who has walked the paths of URU before you, and has left journals of their travels. Therefore the solutions to puzzles are revealed gradually, allowing players to read only so far and (hopefully!) solve the rest of each puzzle themselves.
Also included in the guide is a substantial colour section on the origins of Cyan, the MYST series and how URU came to be. If you are interested in how the Miller brothers began this epic saga in the very beginning, or in the various fascinating techniques involved in producing a game like URU, then this section has some amazing personal interviews and historical information about Cyan and its employees which kept me reading until I had finished it; I couldnt put it down! In fact, this was the first part of the guide I read, and I think for many MYST fans, the most interesting.
However, whether you are a diehard fan of the series, or if URU is your first foray into the universe of MYST, PRIMA's guide is an invaluable resource, both for its in-game assistance, and for its mind-expanding art and factual information. Enjoy!
URU Complete Chronicles Review.......2006-01-30
It is a little tough to give a complete review for I just started the game. So far the guide has been helpful when I got stuck.
Uru a bust for me.......2005-09-07
Unfortunately because of a particular chip on my Intel video card this game will not operate on my computer. Ubisoft says that Intel updated their drivers and the chip will no longer allow the game to play.

Book Description
This is a collection of Professor Preston King's essays on the history of ideas. The title invokes the embeddedness of the past in, and the sly complexity of, what we call altogether too summarily the "present". These essays are united by a persistent concern with the philosophy of history, especially the history of ideas. They all emerge from an early view by King of the interpretation of past and present. This was a view in turn complemented and contradicted by those from whom King learnt most, located in or around the London School of Economics: Michael Oakeshott, Karl Popper and Isaiah Berlin. The author's concern, above all else, is to demonstrate the incoherence, even absurdity of the notion that the past can have nothing to teach us - whether mounted by those who argue that history is "unique" or that it is merely "contextual".

The Highlight of the Five Volume Set (thus far...).......2005-01-17
[...] This five volume history of the victorian bourgeois follows a freudian schematic: the first volume dealt with love, the second with sex, and this volume with agression.
This book was my favorite of the three I've read so far. Gay picks apart the Victorian penchant for cloaked agression with admirable scholastic fortitude. His discussion of Foucault's theory of prisons is a high light for this entire five volume set.
His critique of what he calls the "social control" theorists is that they fail to take into account the ability of the powerful to delude themselves into thinking they are doing the right thing, even when they are most assuredly not.
Why stop here? Only two more volumes to go...

Biotechnology is one of the fastest-growing and most controversial areas of scientific innovation and technology. As new developments occur, public debate has become more heated and grave concerns have been expressed about access to genetic information, labelling of genetically modified foods and human and animal cloning. This book presents a unique study of the relationship between new biotechnology and public perception, media coverage and policy formulation. It outlines a new conceptual framework and contains empirical studies on international controversies such as the cloning of Dolly the sheep and GM Soya.
