An Excellent Intro to Music Contracts.......2007-07-22

When my Entertainment Law professor told his partners that he was going to start practicing Entertainment Law they weren't quite sure exactly what it was he was doing. They called it "Voo Doo Law", and honestly, it's not entirely untrue.

As in any business, agreements are necessary to hold parties accountable, define rights and responsibilities, and to give all parties terms they can reasonably rely on so that business can move forward. The Music Business is no different, but it has its own peculiar quirks, traditions, and problems.

This book takes all kinds of agreements between the many parties required to make a profitable, creative musical endeavor. The Author goes through band incorporation agreements, management contracts, recording and publishing agreements and explains them in ways that will benefit everyone from the aspiring 'band manager' to the experienced attorney looking to get a grasp on a new field of law.

Mr. Schulenberg examines every area of music contracts and gives plenty of demonstrations of contract language benefiting the Artist or the parties with whom the Artist is dealing.

This book also does an excellent job of addressing copyright and trademark law applicable to the music industry and giving thoughtful examination of how the digital download phenomenon is affecting the business in general.

This is (for the most part), clearly written in a straightforward manner, but you'll waste a lot of time if you don't already have a foundation.

Good coverage.......2006-05-19

Many people get al excited when they first try to get into the music business only to get shot down by the many intricate twists and turns involving all the legal aspects of running a record label. Mountains of forms and paperwork with no understanding slowly stack up on the producer's desk with no end in site. The situation is a cry for help and that help comes in the form of information, information obtained by reading this very interesting book that details all that is involved with law aspects of this kind.

This book is hella boring, but its definitely a necessity for anyone involved in music. It clears up a lot of questions, and a lot of things you might have never even thought about. Reading this book is a must if you want a grasp on legal concepts. I also suggest "101 Music Business Contracts" from Platinum Millenium.

this book isnt all its cracked up to be but has plenty of really good onformation and examples hide inside it. from how to negotiate a contract to many other laws and such this book covers mainly all of it. for a better less boring book that has plenty of examples in it i suggest the book by ty cohen "101 Music Business Contracts" you cant go wrong with that one!

This book was every thing you wanted to know about the show Real World. It gave all the details of the number one show on MTV. It was interesting and very informitive. It even had an application for the show. I recommend this book if your in to reality tv. I mean it's the show that started it all. You will be amazed by what all happened in this crazy house in Hawaii.
It Includes Ruthie, Colin, Amaya, Kaia, Justin, Matt and Teck and there wild and sexy time in the Hawaii. Anybody will like the book, and its easy to read. If you didn't like the Real World Hawaii they even include the Real World Seattle and all of its secrets.

well i loved the real world hawaaii season. i thought it was one of the best seasons. i loved the cast except for kaia. the book goes into depth of all the romances,the trip to india, the cast, and the incident of some guy breaking into the real world house and taking matt's daily planner. this is a great book and i recommend it to both people who watched rw8 and people who didnt watch.

I would rather stick needles in my eyes than to watch the real world or read their books. Im sure that the 14-year-old giggly-girl demographic will probably love reading and watching a show about boring college students, but the average 18-40 year old will not find this interesting. For anyone out there who hasn't seen the real world and is thinking about purchasing this book, I will sum up the real world for you. It is about 7 spoiled brats, under the age of 25, who live in a million dollar mansion and tell every boring detail about their lives to the cameras. Sound interesting? Then buy this book.

My Thoughts.......2000-05-28

The book gives a relly good insight on the Hawaii cast! It has sections written by each cast member (including Justin) about the experience of the show. Then, all the other cast members share their thoughts on each other! Colin comes with some really good info! There is a section that tells about the house they lived in, w/ an intersesting article about a theif who broke into the house. There are sections written by Becky (N.Y), Jason (Boston), and Neil (London). There is another section that tells the favorite hang-outs of the cast. There are parts that talk about major events that happened. It is cool, because each cast member narrats the section. There is an update on the Seattle cast to! The Seattle cast (Irene isn't in it) narrates their section, and they tell about their embarassing moments, fashion flops, who the stayed in touch w/, and etc. There is an application for the show to! There are tons of nice pictures!

I think the authors intentions were good but this book left much to be desired. The audio clips were somewhat helpful but most of clips were of the same song/vocalist over and over again. Showing contrast as changes were made to the vocal track, but really only scratching the surface of what can be a very important and multilayered process. His examples are clear but it would really be great if he could follow up this book with another with 4 times more info. I would pay more $ for a better book from this guy because I think he really does know what he is talking about. But this book was disappointing. Sorry : <

this isn't a bad book for the "extreme" novice. pretty basic book. at least the reader gets a CD for the examples so you actually hear something. not recommended other wise.

People, this is very good, audi samples everywhere !!!
But is not all, I really like books that teach you something, this is one of this books. Clean and clear. You will not find math formulas, of audio tansmition laws. This is a hands on book, but you can tell that the writer knows all this formulas ans laws.

Incentives in Soil Conservation.......2000-10-15

Land degradation is now recognized as a major environmental problem and, globally, millions of dollars are now being spent annually on soil and water conservation programs. Many success stories can be found among these programs but, overall, progress has been slow and there have been many failures. there is an apparent reluctance of landusers to adopt conservation-effective practices, and it is usually not clear why practices that have appeared so promising in trials have not been accepted by them, or have been rejected after a short time. Attention has therefore turned to the landusers themselves, rather than the technology. Landusers are now much more involved in the process of identifying the problems, developing practical solutions and applying the necessary measures in the field. The International Workshop on Soil Conservation Extension: Concepts, Strategies, Implementation and Adoption, held in Chiang Mai in June 1995, looked at how soil conservation programs were being presented in the field and what were the problems. It appeared that although progress is being made in many ways, there was one major shortcoming: even where extension services are effective in fully involving landusers in the process of problem identification and the development of acceptable solutions, progress may still be very slow. The reason for this is that landusers may simply not be able to change their practices because eof economic, social or political reasons that are beyond their control. To overcome this problem, programs have been using a variety of incentives and over the years a wide range has been developed and used. Because of the need to examine incentives more closely and to discover which incentives will work and under what circumstances, the editors, on behalf of the World Association of Soil and Water Conservation, invited workers in this field to contribute to the present book. It contains a variety of articles that explore many aspects of the use of incentives in soil conservation programs. The book gives a clear understanding of the subject and also provides guidance to those involved in the development and implementation of soil conservation programs. An interesting addition to books on soil conservation!
