Customer Reviews:
Interesting source of finding what jobs are out there........2006-07-04
Several careers I had not thought of.
Sources for the associations involved with the careers were in the back of the book.
I would probably purchase the current issue of the
Occupational Outlook Handbook 2006-2007 by (Jist Works).
Dated, but an interesting read.
Good For Background Information.......2000-06-07
This book contains descriptions of various careers that the author believes are hot, and includes links to sources of additional information. That's the good news. I would caution any reader to use this book only as background information for brainstorming. Many of the careers singled out in the book are difficult to get into and/or are very geographically limited. The descriptions of the careers in the book do not carry that caveat, and they should where applicable. Readers should identify what their career objective is and not just pick up this book and try to leap onto the bandwagon of a "hot" career.
Without a doubt, exactly what I was look for........2000-01-25
Easily the best book I've purchased for finding the job I was looking for. I recommend this book highly.

Book Description
"This book contains fifteen chapters written by world leaders in various research areas in radio science. Each chapter describes the most exciting and important scientific developments that have taken place during the last three years. Fundamental information for a non-specialist is provided to facilitate understanding, and in addition, the most current developments are highlighted.
Several chapters deal with issues of radio communication - for example, satellite communication, mobile communication, and associated measurements - and discuss the resultant problems in electro-magnetic spectrum congestion. Three chapters outline closely associated issues, namely new ways of modeling and designing systems, components and antennas. New developments and techniques are also covered in the scientific applications of radar, radio astronomy, and plasma waves. In two chapters attention is devoted to quite different research issues at very low frequencies: those of atmospheric noise and interference, and the biological effects of power-line electromagnetic fields."

Right-handers Need Not Apply..........2000-07-04
Although filled with interesting trivia about some famous left-handers, it only takes about 15 minutes to read. A lot of the information is common knowledge and several very famous left-handed athletes and artists are left off of the list. A quick, painless read. This book is probably better suited as a "pick-me-up" book to read to a left-handed child who feels like he or she doesn't belong in a right-handed world.

WOW.......2007-08-09
WOW! I was in this play once! I played Jojo, i've been looking for this music for forever, i love this book!
A performer's review.......2007-05-10
I performed in this musical as a wickersham brother, so i know how many songs were in this show and how many songs were included in the songbook, and only about 48% of the songs from the play are in this book! Some of my favorite ones aren't even in there! However, it does have some of the songs I like, like "Oh the thinks you can think!".
Seussical .......2007-02-14
This is a wonderful musical, with lots of very fun and catchy music. I own this piano book, but am a little disappointed that more songs were not included. Seussical has SO many songs, and there are only 13 in this book. Many other piano books for musicals include ALL the songs in the show, so this is a bit of a disappointment.
Its like having the show for you own. .......2006-11-05
My 5 year old son and I saw this show over the summer and we gave him this soundtrack for his birthday in October. He loves listening to it and remembering what he saw on stage, as do I. And he loves expalining the details to his older brother who did not see the show, but loves the music equally as much. A lively soundtrack that I don't tire of listing too in the car. We all love it.
This is the coolest musical.......2003-03-06
This musical is up there with Joseph and the Technicolor dreamcoat. I Love listening to it! It turns Dr. Suesses books into somthing that I can sing to which is really cool. I encourage everyone to listen to this musical I guarentee you will love it and be instantly hooked!

Book Description
Struggling writer Leif Ueland has hit rock bottom: no job, no money, no decent apartment, no girlfriend, and he's also a really nice guy. Acutely insecure, he's been trying to get a grip on things with the help of a mentoring therapist. Then the opportunity of a lifetime arrives: Playboy's Playmate of the Millennium search. Dozens of cities. Thousands of women. And one man covering it all. Suddenly, Leif, a son in a family of feminists, the anti-Hefner, finds himself at the center of a vortex of erotica, sexual harrassment, plastic surgery, stripping, and, always, beautiful women. But what does it mean to be a heterosexual, single guy? Sensitivity to women's needs? A life full of machismo and meaningless sex? Leif Ueland is about to find out-and tell all.
Download Description
Sometime journalist Leif Ueland has hit rock bottom as a straight single male: not only does he not have a girlfriend, but he's also a really nice guy who's visibly uncomfortable in the presence of overt he-manishness. Combine that with no job, money, or decent apartment, and the result is acute insecurity. How, he wonders, can he expect to decode women's sexuality if he can't even understand his own? Then, the opportunity of a lifetime comes along: The world's leading men's magazine needs a Fearless Reporter to travel cross-country for six months on the "Playboy Bus" in search of the Playmate of the Millennium. Dozens of cities. Thousands of women, willing to take it all off for cheesecake immortality. One man, covering it all: Leif, the anti-Hefner, the only son in a family of feminists, who finds himself at the center of a vortex of erotica, sexual harassment, plastic surgery, stripping, and, always, beautiful women. As the cross-country journey progresses and the overwhelming sense of vertigo increases, Leif struggles to figure out what it is to be a heterosexual single guy. Is it being sensitive to women's needs, like his mother and women friends taught him? Is it being a "man's man," full of machismo and meaningless sex? Or can he find some kind of utopian meeting place, preserving a liberal, enlightened sensibility while at the same time giving his libido a "ticket to ride"?
Customer Reviews:
Incredibly Shallow.......2003-10-02
The book chronicles nerve.com columnist Leif Ueland's experience after he was "accidentally" thrust by circumstance into the position of chronicling Playboy's search for their year 2000 "playmate of the millennium" for the Playboy Web site.
So, early on, the book promises to be something of an expose of the shallowness involved in the whole liking-people-for-their-looks thing, by someone who thinks of himself as a deep thinker, who is working on the great American novel. But, the opposite turns out to be the case. It is, "accidentally" an expose of this so-called deep thinker who, as a friend of mine put it, "thinks he's a saint because he's one step removed from the devil himself." That is, because he's maybe 10% less shallow than the incredibly shallow people around him, he thinks he's incredibly un-shallow, which he isn't. Almost immediately, he's dropped his idea of making his playboy.com column classy, and is obsessed with making it popular. And he keeps telling himself that, because he'll never have another opportunity like this, it's important that he have sex with someone once during this year of working for Playboy. And like a made-for-playboy movie, the book's climax comes when he sleeps with a random stranger who he met on the road, as though that resolves everything.
accidental find.......2003-08-18
I found this book in the political figures section of audible.com and downloaded it on a whim. It turns out to be the most entertaining piece of non-fiction that I have read/heard in a long time.
Leif Ueland, fearless reporter, begins the 1999 search for the millenium playmate very tentatively and is hesitant to dive into the playboy culture. As the bus trip/search progresses, he becomes more bold and lives out a handful of his own "Hef-scapades". Leif Ueland offers an incredibly insightful and sensitive perspective of the millenium playmate search and the Playboy corporate culture. The book is reminiscent of Hunter S Thompson trips but with a 90's flair.
One very funny book.......2003-01-28
I just finished this hilarious book, Accidental Playboy. I purchased the book to give to my boyfriend for X-Mas, knowing he would love it. Unfortunetly, I randomly opened to page 5, my eyes focusing on a line that I don't think I can repeat here. I only put it down to sleep and eat. Ueland is so honest about his sexuality, or lack there of, and I adored that as well. I also loved how he revealed so much through the scenes with his therapist and really let women in on how the mind of at least one guy works. I could go on and on. All and all I loved it and now must buy my boyfriend his own copy.
insightful and disturbing.......2002-12-19
I thought this book was interesting and funny. The author seems quite honest and tries to be such a "good guy" despite finding himself in the middle of the "ultimate" male fantasy. He is introspective on some levels, but doesn't seem to ever realize that little by little he becomes just another man perpetuating harmful stereotypes about women and supporting a corporation that thrives on objectifying them. If Mr. Ueland has foremothers who were writers, they would probably be proud of his skill as an author. But I'm guessing that his feminist foremothers, whom he mentions, would be disgusted.
What a surprise.......2002-11-14
After a exhausting week at work, I picked this book up along with some Haagen Daz and bottle of champagne wanting a mindless, childish weekend at home. I started the book not expecting much, Ueland won me over after a few pages. I resisted, and much like being in the company of a new love affair, I slowly melted and was left begging for more. Although I am not claiming it to be the most well written book, nor a masterpiece, it is however brutally honest and says what most men would hesitate to say. His wit, his words, the sarcasm... We need more Ueland's around. I suggest anyone with any sort of interest in human nature to pick it up, and any gal ever confounded by the male sex needs a copy as well. Oh and did I mention, the general male population could stand to take a few tips.

So far it has been very good! I am learning a lot in a world I didn't know much about. I have Word 2002 and this is perfect for the WordPerfect 12. I am still learning to work the differance between of the two of them. KM
Word perfect for dummies.......2007-03-20
Good instructions, but it's very difficult to hold the pages open to follow the instructions. Had to copy pages and then put them in a binder that would stay open.
WordPerfect and seniors.......2005-10-22
I have been teaching beginning word processing using MS Word to new senior students. Now that new computers are shipping with Corel WordPerfect, I needed a text to use for instruction. This Beginner's Guide fits the task to the student and has proven to be a hit with them. I would recommend the book highly.
Absolute Beginner's Guide to WordPerfect 12 .......2005-07-28
This is an excellent book with lots of information about Word Perfect 12.
Disappointed .......2005-02-25
I ordered this book for a complete novice who had just bought his first computer and had no knowledge of computers or word processors. In reviewing the book, I was disappointed that terms were used which would not be understood by someone who had never used a computer or word processor. I had hoped it would contain step-by-step lessons with pictures and descriptions, but was very much disappointed. I would not recommend this book for a beginner.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
Vision, Instruction, and Action clearly and cleverly describes a sophisticated integrated system called Sonja that takes instruction, can interpret its environment visually, and can play games (in this case the video game, Amazon) on its own. Sonja integrates advances in intermediate visual processing, interactive activity, and natural language pragmatics.
In demonstrating that such systems, rare in artificial intelligence, are possible, David Chapman shows how discoveries in visual psychophysics can be incorporated into Al, how complex activity can result from participation rather than plan following, and how physical context can be used to interpret indexical instructions.
Sonja is able to play a competent beginner's game of Amazon autonomously and at the same time can also make flexible use of human instructions in knowing how to kill off monsters, pick up and use tools, and find its way in a dungeon maze. It extends the author's previous work in developing a new theory of activity by addressing linguistic issues and providing a better understanding of the architecture underlying activity, incorporating many technical improvements.
Sonja also models several pragmatic issues in computational linguistics, focusing on external reference and including linguistic repair processing, and the use of temporal and spatial expressions. It connects language use with more detailed and realistic theories of vision and activity.
In the field of vision research, Sonja provides an implementation of a unified visual architecture, demonstrating that this architecture can support a serious theory of activity. It demonstrates the first instance that various visual mechanisms previously proposed on psychophysical, neurophysiological, and speculative computational grounds can be made useful by connecting them with a natural task domain. David Chapman is a Computer Scientist with Teleos Research in Palo Alto.
