The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead
ASIN: 1581600259 |
Book Description
This twisted, tongue-in-cheek look at cannibalism as a last-resort survival option analyzes real-life case studies and historical episodes of cannibalism. Then it examines the hard-core decisions and gruesome details one must know in order to partake in this grisly practice. Recipes included. For entertainment purposes only.
Customer Reviews:
Delicious.......2007-02-08
This book reminds me of conversations with friends sitting around the fire at midnight with wine. Things get a little silly, there is some swearing (I believe this is what other reviewers are calling "adolescent language"). Sometimes in the book it works, other times it is tiresome. But most importantly....you come away from the get together knowing that some blatant truths have been revealed. Sometimes in language that is blunter than you like....but truth is truth.
This book is like that. The dark humor? It's VITAL. Without it, you can't be expected to survive long in any situation.
There is a LOT of truth in this book. Not all of it's pretty, and human nature can be pretty ugly at times.
The most important thing I came away with from reading this book, if it looks like cannibalism may be necessary, DON'T WAIT too long! While you waffle over the blackened remains of "morality" and "ethics", your body is engaging in cannibalism ALREADY.....on the LAST person you want to see eaten!
This is an excellent book. If you only want to read one book on the subject, I'd say go with this one. If you are sqeemish, genteel, or want to put your hands over your ears at the thought....why are you looking at this page at all? Accept your morbid curiosity for what it is! Either get the book, or remain content to surf the internet on the subject.
Keep a copy in your bunker.......2007-02-03
Ok, it's sophomoric and adolescent. However, I had fun reading it and got more than a couple of chuckles out of it. Darker and more deadpan would have been even better, but it delivered at least what I paid for.
Don't Eat Me...wait..........2003-05-30
The author obviously experienced severe trauma as a child, because this is one of the most disturbing subjects I have ever had the misfortune to read.
All tongue in cheek.......2003-03-15
This book is a mostly "tongue in cheek" look at the world of cannibalism for survival. While it is darkly humorous, It's rough and raw and covers topics like "Does it taste like chicken?, What will my friends think? etc...
Shiguro also takes a look at cases where cannibalism actually occured, such as the ill-fated Donner party, the stranded Uruguayan rugby team and several other case histories.
While meant totally as a humorous book, it has some serious undertones.
entertaining, informative..left me hungering for more..........2002-05-02
Okay, my title isn't exactly accurate, but I just had to go for the lowbrow humor. Honestly, though, the book was entertaining at first, and was also fairly informative: it did actually answer most of the morbid questions I had about cannibalism. But I found the book a bit lacking for a couple of different reasons. First, the humor got on my nerves after a while. It's essentially one joke: "I like eating people." Second, the real information (history, facts about cannibalism, etc.) kinda stops 2/3 of the way through the book, and is replaced with more "humor" like recipes and such. Anyway, think of the book as "Cannibalism for Dummies" and you won't go too wrong...

Customer Reviews:
revision is misleading.......2005-09-30
It is a great book but I ordered it for a certain song that was in the first edition. That song had been removed from this edition. That was disappointing
There's so much stuff in here!.......2001-05-17
This book has so many great songs. It has an even amount of fun songs ("I Can Cook Too" from On The Town), love songs ("I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miz), funny songs ("I Hate Men" from Kiss Me, Kate), well known songs ("On My Own" from Les Miz), love songs ("Music That Makes Me Dance" from Funny Girl), high songs ("Feelings" from The Apple Tree), low songs ("Small World" from Gypsy) inspirational songs ("Hold On" from Secret Garden) classics ("I Get a Kick Out Of You," "Johnny One Note," "I Wish I Were In Love Again") new stuff ("I'd be Surprisingly Good For You" from Evita) and songs I've yet to learn ("My Husband Makes Movies"). There are so many songs in this book! It's absolutely worth getting. And you don't have to worry about it being in your range!
Eclectic, Comprehensive & Entertaining.......2001-04-02
The Singer's Musical Theatre Anthologies have long been respected as a line of well-chosen solos, especially for higher voices. Reaching far into the depths of musical theatre history, Richard Walters assembles pieces for every possible occasion: from the well-known "Les Misérables" to the classic "Gypsy" and "Oliver!" to such new musicals as "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" and "The Secret Garden". The selections are not all designed for blasting, nor are they all love songs - Walters establishes a comfortable and interesting balance between the two extremes. Each of the volumes contains vocal/piano score in the original keys, however some editions contain condensed orchestral scores. I wholly recommend this entire series, if not for audition purposes, for just personal enjoyment!
A Gift From the Musical Theatre Gods.......1999-09-13
This series of books is absolutely wonderful. It forces singers of all ages to break away from those two or three songs or musicals they know very well and perform these other songs in THEIR key (not some odd key from a collaboration book). This also makes songs easily accessible if you don't necessarily know any Sondheim, etc. I feel everyone should own one or more volumes of this collection (in their vocal range, of course). The only thing that stinks is the larger your range, the more money you end up spending!
Awsome! Exactly what I needed!.......1998-11-01
My mom got this for me for Christmas last year and now it's the only book I use when I am auditioning for my highschool and community theatre. It's got so many great songs, and they're all in just the right range!
Book Description
In 1957 Sputnik, the world’s first man-made satellite, dazzled people as it zipped around the planet. By the beginning of the twenty-first century, more than eight thousand satellites orbited the Earth, and satellite practices such as live transmission, direct broadcasting, remote sensing, and astronomical observation had altered how we imagined ourselves in relation to others and our planet within the cosmos. In Cultures in Orbit, Lisa Parks analyzes these satellite practices and shows how they have affected meanings of “the global” and “the televisual.” Parks suggests that the convergence of broadcast, satellite, and computer technologies necessitates an expanded definition of “television,” one that encompasses practices of military monitoring and scientific observation as well as commercial entertainment and public broadcasting.
Roaming across the disciplines of media studies, geography, and science and technology studies, Parks examines uses of satellites by broadcasters, military officials, archaeologists, and astronomers. She looks at Our World, a live intercontinental television program that reached five hundred million viewers in 1967, and Imparja tv, an Aboriginal satellite tv network in Australia. Turning to satellites’ remote-sensing capabilities, she explores the U.S. military’s production of satellite images of the war in Bosnia as well as archaeologists’ use of satellites in the excavation of Cleopatra’s palace in Alexandria, Egypt. Parks’s reflections on how Western fantasies of control are implicated in the Hubble telescope’s views of outer space point to a broader concern: that while satellite uses promise a “global village,” they also cut and divide the planet in ways that extend the hegemony of the post-industrial West. In focusing on such contradictions, Parks highlights how satellites cross paths with cultural politics and social struggles.
Book Description
In 1960, when Mikhail Botvinnik lost the world championship to the dazzling attacking player Mikhail Tal, there seemed little chance that Botvinnik would regain the title. Yet in the return match a year later, with a dazzling demonstration of aggressive chess, Botvinnik thoroughly outplayed his young opponent, emerging the easy winner. All 21 games of the return match are presented here, deeply annotated by Botvinnik.

Good Choice For Test Questions.......2005-08-17
I used this book along with several other texts and practice exams to prepare for the exam. I also used the cccure website. Clement DuPuis runs the site and was the editor of this book which was a factor in my decision to buy. I passed the exam so I am happy with the end result.
Do NOT Buy This Book.......2005-08-04
I purchased this book two weeks before my CISSP exam to practice, and after so many ridiculously-worded questions, mismatched questions and answers, and flat out inaccuracies, I took it back to the store and got a refund.
This is the worst possible study tool to acquire. I don't know how the content got by an editor; it will mislead you as to what the right answers are, confuse you by misrepresenting your actual knowledge, and generally do more harm than good.
Solid Practice.......2005-06-03
I passed the CISSP examination in NYC last month and used this book as part of my practice drills. I mainly used the practice CD. The book itself is the practice CD in paper form. The questions Gregg asks are specific, yet challenging, and push your level of understanding of the 10 domains. The CD engine works fine, but the "mark" feature had a few issues at the end of a quiz. Overall, I believe that this CD isolated my weakness very well in relation to other quiz engines, so I knew exactly what I needed to spend more time on. The questions on calculating ALE and SLE were useful and applicable in a real world sense. Combine this book with Tittel, Harris and ISC2 study guides and you should really have a command of the material.

Customer Reviews:
Good starting point for CISSP.......2007-04-05
This book is a good outline for the CISSP Objectives. Mr. Gregg arranges the topics from each domain in a clear, concise manner. However, this book should not be used as your sole resource to study for the exam. It should be used in conjunction with other study materials, such Shon Harris' All in One book and the website [...]. The book does contain a CDROM with 250 practice questions from www.cccure.org which was also very helpful. This book is an excellent starting point in becoming CISSP certified.
A Great Guide to Passing the Exam.......2007-01-05
Per the publisher's intent, the CISSP Exam Cram 2 is not meant to be a comprehensive preparation for the ISC2 CISSP exam, but a summary of its important elements. As such, this book does a good job, and I would recommend the book to help gain an understanding of the topics and identify areas for further study.
Any Exam Cram book should be just part of the prep for an exam as expansive as the CISSP. It's advisable to use other additions study resources especially if you want to truly know the material and not just prep to pass an exam. Check out some of the many on-line resources and spend some time doing practice questions. The CISSP Exam Cram 2 also includes a set of practice multiple-choice questions on CD-ROM. The CISSP Exam Cram 2 should be considered as an introductory part of a rigorous curriculum in preparation for ISC2 CISSP Exam exam. The book was a valuable tool for my exam efforts.
Do not waste the $24.50.......2006-11-26
This book is completely inadequate for the CISSP. The Security + Exam cram 2 was twice as big for a test half this size. I wish someone had warned me before buting this book. When I opened the package and sow how small this book was I laughed. Can I get my money back? I am not normally this harsh of a critic and I am a big fan of Exam Cram but common this book is pathetic. Buy the Security + Exam Cram before you buy this one.
Good Prep Material.......2006-07-28
No single book will prepare you for any certification exam and with what the CISSP exam costs you will want to make sure you are fully prepared. I found this book worth the money. It's a good book to start you on the path to the CISSP exam or for a final review of the subject matter. It covers all the ten domains and unlike some books, which seem to read like stereo instructions, the language in the book was clear and understandable. So get yourself several texts to study for the exam and make sure this is one of them. You will have a good head start towards passing.
Cheap, complete & well-written = 3 ***.......2006-07-13
I gave this book 3 stars because it's concise, reasonably well-written and somehow complete. ISC2's exams are a b**ch because nobody really knows what stuff will be covered and what will not. Personally, I used this book as my first study material. I read that thing twice before switching to the Keutz Prep Guide + the official ISC2 book which are longer and more detailed. Questions are way too easy so they're not to be used as primers before doing the exam.
To wrap things up, it's an average book with some multiple minor mistakes. It's concise but it should not be your sole source of material. That being said, as of today, I would suggest buyers invest their hard-earned $$$ toward a proven book such as Keutz's Prep Guide or Harris's All In One.

Product Description
A generation after Charles I's execution in 1649, his son James II also lost his throne in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. This illustrated narrative history charts the major issues and crises of James' turbulent life and reign using unique and little known material, from state papers to personal correspondence, in The National Archives. Triumph and tragedy abound: James' capture during the civil wars was followed by a daring escape and a successful military career in exile on the Continent; his position as heir apparent to Charles II was thrown into doubt by his unshakeable commitment to Catholicism; and his popularity on accession ended with his spectacular fall from power just three years later. The wider implications of his personal tragedy range from the Jacobite rebellions of the next sixty years to the growth of parliamentary power and the development of government in the American colonies; moreover his efforts to return England to the Catholic faith continue to resonate in Northern Ireland to this day. Featured documents include: * James being cross-questioned by Parliament, the year before his father's execution * James denouncing the 'Popish Plot' which aimed to put him on the throne * James' note to William of Orange in the hours after Charles II's death * An account of James' defeat by William of Orange at the Battle of the Boyne

Book Description
Computation and Intelligence brings together 29 readings in Artificial Intelligence that are particularly relevant to today's student/practitioner. With its helpful critique of the selections, extensive bibliography, and clear presentation of the material, Computation and Intelligence will be a useful adjunct to any course in AI as well as a handy reference for professionals in the field.
The book is divided into five parts, each reflecting the stages of development of AI. The first part, Foundations,, contains readings that present or discuss foundational ideas linking computation and intelligence, typified by A. M. Turing's "Computing Machinery and Intelligence." The second part, Knowledge Representation, presents a sampling of numerous representational schemes by Newell, Minsky, Collins & Quillian, Winograd, Schank, Hayes, Holland, McClelland, Rumelhart, Hinton, and Brooks.
The third part, Weak Method Problem Solving, fouses on the research and design of syntax-based problem solvers, including the most famous of these, the Logic Theorist and GPS. The fourth part, Reasoning in Complex and Dynamic Environments, presents a broad spectrum of the AI community's research in knowledge-intensive problem solving, from McCarthy's early design of systems with "common sense" to model-based reasoning.
The two concluding selections, by Marvin Minsky and by Herbert Simon, respectively, present the recent thoughts of two of AI's pioneers who revisit the concepts and controversies that have developed during the evolution of the tools and techniques that make up the current practice of Artificial Intelligence.
