A must-have for 80s music fans!.......2005-08-30

My husband and I attended both high school and college in the 80s, and we're still such huge fans of 80s music that our 2003 wedding had an all-80s music theme! So, you can imagine how thrilled I was to discover this book, which contains 10 "Quiz Sets" of 100 questions each--that's right, 100 questions all about 80s music. I have to admit, I consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to the crazy, corny music of that great decade, but I didn't get past the back cover before I was stumped ("name the three Prince hits where the letter "u" is substituted for the word "you" in the title"--I could only think of one!).

Author Martin Quinn provides several different ways in which you can use the book for a party game, from the "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" version (no teams) to the "Don't Worry Be Happy" version (a drinking game). Also, each of the questions is given a point value, from "1" being the easiest to "5" being the hardest. This is the only part of the book that didn't quite work for me, as some of the 1-point items are pretty tough, whereas "what starts with Q, ends with T, and commanded you to 'Bang Your Head' in 1984?" appears on the first page as a 3-point question (c'mon, you've got to know this one!). Overall, however, I know this book will provide me, my husband, and our friends with hours of entertainment, and I highly recommend it for any 80s music fans.

My friends and I had a great time quizzing each other with this book. It's the perfect mix of challenging questions and nostalgic fun. This would be a great gift for any child of the 80's.

Tons of 80s Fun.......2005-06-11

My favorite new party game! I got this book and played the game with some friends and was fully entertained for hours. "Don't Dream It's Over" is full of 80s questions that you'll know, drive yourself crazy trying to remember, or will be just plain baffled by. Invite over a couple of 80s neophytes, turn it into a drinking game, and watch the less 80s savvy get wasted. Well worth the price.

Best Party Game Ever!.......2005-06-09

This is one of the best party games I have every played. I found it particularly funny when Jane couldn't remember the name "Big Bird" and she made a chicken motion with her hands and said "yellow bird". Ah Jane. What every happened to her? Chris...anyone....Bueller.

One classy book!.......2000-09-04

This gorgeous Red Dwarf companion may seem a bit pricey, but no smeghead should be without it. It contains LOTS of extra material from the smash hit series 8, and is full of beautiful cast and CGI pictures. Best of all, each script is introduced by the king of smeg himself- Doug Naylor! Some of the behind the scenes stories are utterly hilarious(anyone who's read 'Rubber Mask' will know what I'm talking about!). Mr Naylor also shares with us smeggies the troubles Red Dwarf went through in the three years between series 6 and 7. This man has my undying respect and gratitude- and Red Dwarf will never die!

The MUST BUY Red Dwarf Book.......2000-04-28

This book is THE Red Dwarf to buy. You may have seen several novels, quizbooks and other largish coffee table-type books concerning Red Dwarf at your local bookshop, but there is no other one quite so good as this: particularly for a fan who doesn't want to get bogged down in endless books.

The content is first rate. Each script contains many sections which were (unfortunately) obliterated from the final shows and almost every scene is accompanied by a full colour photo - there are literally hundreds of them. The comments and anecdotes by Doug only serve to improve an already damn fine book, and allow it to be classed not only as a scriptbook, but also as a series companion and a 'behind the scenes' book, too.

Every fan should have a copy - get one now!

The intro alone is worth the $17........2000-04-08

This is a large size hardcover book mostly consisting of the scripts to the 8 episodes in series 8. The scripts include original lines that were dropped from the show, many wonderful photos, and best of all, some introduction by Doug Naylor. If you are a fan of the show, this will probably make milk come out of your nose (if you happen to be drinking any.) If you are not a fan of the show and someone just reads a passage to you, you will probably still laugh out loud. Naylor explains why Red Dwarf 8 was almost never made, why Kochanski was introduced. (There WAS a reason! ) It is well worth the money, just for the beginning. A must own for fans, even if they aren't collectors, simply for the beginning.

taken me out of tight spots.......2003-05-15

I love this book because it's not so much about theory (leave that in college or for newbies) it's more about how to apply code to real-world problems. something that I find hard to find. :-)

Production oriented.......2003-04-25

No sense repeating what's been said; read the other reviews to
find out what the book covers. One of the benefits I got out of
using Garth's book is that it's organized in a manner that helps
me be more productive. When using it as a reference, info is easy
to find, and the code samples are not all trivial as in many
other books. Therefore, one can derive new solutions to issues
not covered in the book. My copy has been loaned to three others,
and is dogeared from use.
This one stays in the toolbox.

Real code, real situations, real productivity.......2002-07-08

I compared this book with several others & it stands head and shoulders above them. The extensive coding provides examples that not only explain "how-to" for those familiar with T-SQL, but also provide "Oh, you can do THAT?" types of functionality for those becoming familiar with the language.

This probably shouldn't be the first book in one's SQL reference library as not all the material would be appropriate for beginners ... but if your interests/work take you onto the programming side, this is a must-have.

Excellent book on SQLServer 2000.......2002-06-28

Really it is an excellent book for SQL server.iam new programmer to SQLserver 2000.i tired with trying to learn many books on SQLServer2000. Only this book i picked up very Fast.i don't know why some reviewers not satisfied with this book...

The T-SQL manual.......2002-04-27

Garath Wells book is a unique guidance to T-SQL programming.

In "easy to read terms" the book explains working with T-SQL and gives you the basic skills to write effective Stored Procedures and triggers.

The book gives many, easy to understand examples that help you build your own code. I often use the book as a T-SQL-manual. Many of my existing SQL server applications has now been tuned to run mush faster with less code thanks to the skills I developed though this book.

If you are new to Stored Procedures or just want to learn more - don't hesitate to buy "Code-Centric: T-SQL Programming with Stored Procedures and Triggers"
