The authors explore a new framework for evaluating economic development projects. This framework is based on a job-chain approach. Each new job created by an economic development incentive is filled by an employee who leaves behind another job. In turn, that job may be filled by someone who leaves behind their old job, etc. Such job chains end when an unemployed worker, someone not previously in the labor force, or an in-migrant to the labor market takes a vacancy. Job chains are the mechanism for observing and measuring "trickle down". The job trains model developed in this book presents new insights into local economic development evaluation and strategy.

Irish stories and Cornucopia.......2004-04-01

Eric Cross's novel, The Tailor and Ansty, depicts a wonderful old Irish couple who spend their days socializing with new and old friends, arguing and "standing to the cow" or watching over their single diary cow. This couple consists of the delightful Tailor, and his wife Ansty. Although at first, Cross's approach to introducing the reader to these people seems awkward, it also entices and draws the reader into this captivating setting. Through the Tailor's stories, none of which one may be certain are true, and Ansty's nagging, I began to feel as though I knew these people as well as Cross. I frequently had to remind myself, though, that they are no longer living.

Although my original interest in reading the novel stemmed from my person interest in my Irish ancestry, I am well convinced that anyone could find this an entertaining read. Fantastic stories are something that everyone has grown up with, and although the Tailor's may be more mature than those I personally recall at times, the stories the Tailor heartily shares are no different. I cannot avoid the fact that the novel was banned after it's original release, although I do not entirely understand why, and therefore must warn people with more conservative views on life to avoid this novel, because they may not view it in the light it is meant to be seen.

To me, the Tailor and his wife Ansty, this stereotypical Irish couple, ARE my grandparents. I loved reading this book. Cross has a real way with words. The book is incredible. And I'm the great great grandaugter (i'm not sure about how many greats there are) of the tailor. the tradition lives on in our family, the type of relationship that you can see between the tailor and ansty can still be seen in my grandparents. It's a great book for anyone intrigued by their Irish roots.

A MUST read for all of Irish descent!.......2000-03-14

This book was originally banned in Ireland by the English. They thought the main character, The Tailor, was "sex-obsessed" and his wife, Anastasia, or Ansty, a "moron".

This is really funny to me because I caught no such traits whatsoever in these two characters! This book can easily be read in one sitting, it is so enjoyable!

Starts with a short but very good introduction into music reading. Good saxo use introduction (again quite short). And dedicates the rest of the book on musical partitures of learning and practicing exersises.

Times change and so should this book.......2006-06-30

Some interesting exercises and etudes. However the book is very dated. This book has not changed since 1929. I have an original 1929 version and the new book is an exact copy. The saxophone has evolved since 1929, and so should this book.

There is no mention of any of modern saxophone technique. For example the book still refers to an archaic saxophone with right hand low Bb,B and C#keys, there are even has exercises based on this ancient key system. No modern saxophone have these keys. I have never seen a sax with these keys, although the idea is interesting.

The book covers only your basic scales, major, and melodic minor. There is no mention of pentatonics, altered scales, whole tone, harmonics, multiphonics, altissimo etc.

This is not a bad book to have in your collection, but you will need more than this Universal Method to become the next Michael Brecker.

The title Universal Saxophone method may have been appropriate in 1929, it is certainly not appropriate for the year 2006.

This is an excellent book for the serious saxophone student. It covers all the major technical aspects of playing the saxophone in the normal range of Bb below to F above the staff: scales and arpeggios, breath control (if you follow the breath marks in the early exercises), phrasing, mastering the low range, mastering the high range, intervals, trills and embellishments, difficult fingering combinations, alternate fingerings, time signatures and syncopation, and all the keys(although the majority of exercises are in the common keys,especially C). The problem is the book is made up of mostly dry technical studies. No popular or folk tunes. No simplified classical themes or classic etudes. Just a few operatic arias, classical airs, and concert pieces for the intermediate/advanced player and beyond (maybe 60 out of 290 pages of music). That's why I think it's only for the serious student. Also, it's probably too difficult for most beginners with no experience learning on their own without a teacher.

This is a great thing for students who have a hard time finding something to practice site reading with. As a student myself, I find myself excelling at improvisation only because I have all of the recourses at hand to do so. I used to faulter a little with my sight reading a while ago, but this new book has really helped me. I have already recommended it to many friends; I also recommend it to you!

This book is "The Bible" of sax playing.......2004-12-16

Back when I was playing every night, we referred to this as "The Bible." Anyone who aspires to play the sax should have a copy, even if it is "old school" by today's standards. This and a couple of "cheat books", with a good album collection, is all you need to learn to play the right way. Join a band and listen to everyone else, and hit a few licks when the time is right.

First, i must thank the author who wrote this book is very helpful when i encountered a problem from this book, i e-mail to him.

Some of my background, i'm a student studying at "Informatics", an IT college in which a guidance recommends to read this book for the CS course. I used this book and got A grade for the Networking module.

This book is well-written and easy to understand and to learn in a manner. Although you might not read whole chapters in this book because it covers many different kind of topics in relation to computer network and the flow of data in a variety of network environments. It also gives you a basis of networking concept including the most updated networking technologies and the techniques, such as "Internet 2, IPv6, Switching, and Encryption," used nowadays. It is designed for those who are now studying year 1 or even year 2 at university or planning to excel or now working in IT industry. That's why it designated "A Business User's Approach"

Because of the book is to be designed for different kind of people, therefore you might just want to read some of which chapters are helpful based on what and where of your uses, situations, and backgrounds, etc... You just need to follow your learning pace on your studies or your jobs. Random reading in this book is further the way in which helps you to understand deeply and to apply.

To sum up, i think it will not be disappointed to you.
