Book Description
Fix the U. S. Budget is a firsthand account of the crucial and extraordinary events surrounding the federal budget during the 1980's. The book spans the period of Jim Miller's service as chairman of the Federal Trade Commission and director of the Office of Management and Budget, encompassing the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings budget law, Black Monday (October 1987), and the ensuing budget summit agreement of 1987. Miller was a principal player in these events; his memoir is an original contribution to our understanding of their evolution and significance. He provides firm and persuasive recommendations for fixing the U.S. budget.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent! A Complete and Thorough Guitar Book! .......2007-04-16
I have several guitar books as I have been learning to play for the past 2 years. I have alot of instructional books and learned bits and pieces. This book is an excellent resource and covers almost every topic in great detail. Everything from chords, picking, blues, rock and country guitar, guitar effects, amps, etc. Also includes instruction and pictures on repairing and maintaining your guitar, adjusting the action, changing strings, etc. A valuable resource and worth owning yourself.
An outstanding instructional which stands apart from similar-sounding guitar 'how-to' guides.......2005-09-05
Want to learn guitar from a book? There are plenty of slimmer guides on the market - but none with the depth and detail of Moran Illustrated Guitar, which packs in color illustrations of techniques. From playing different kinds of chords to power rock, single notes, slides, string muting and much more, Moran Illustrated Guitar packs in the step-by-step close-up color photos so it's hard to go wrong. An outstanding instructional which stands apart from similar-sounding guitar 'how-to' guides.
This is the best Educative Book .......2005-08-03
This book I would extremely, highly recommended for beginners and I mean it. Sure I might be just a kid but trust me I have this book and I know a good book when I see one. Its more likely to keep you occupied since it in color and it shows you pictures of everything so you can see and understand the things it tells you to do. This book tells the history, parts, basic concepts, how to hold, fretting, picking, tuning, how to practice on, how to play a guitar for all acoustic, classical, and electric types of guitars. It shows you practicing techniques and doesn't just say to do things you don't understand. Teaches you to play different chords (barre chords and power chords), strumming patterns, single notes, and suggests songs for practice. Teaches you to read tablature(sheet music for guitars), chord diagrams, guitar symbols. Teaches different types of music rock, blues, folk, country, and classical guitar. Great thing about it is you should buy this book before purchasing a guitar because it gives you a lot of tips on which type of guitar you want to purchase. Explains "all" the care and maintainace required in a guitar and "all" its accessories. Mentions home recording for people who are starting to make bands, CDs or stuff. It has suggestions for reference material as well if you can't find the information you want. I don't think I disliked this book at all. For all the tiny details they might of not included I would look at the reference material for that. They don't specifically talk about certain guitars but more in general. (...)
Another Maran success... .......2005-07-04
Maran Graphics has once again come out with a book that absolutely rocks... Maran Illustrated Guitar.
Content: Guitar Basics; Getting Ready To Play; Reading Music; Playing Basic Chords; Playing Barre Chords And Power Chords; Playing Single Notes; Articulation Techniques; Playing Rock Guitar; Playing The Blues; Playing Folk And Country Music; Playing Classical Guitar; Buying A Guitar; Guitar Accessories; Guitar Care And Maintenance; Home Recording; Quick Reference; Index
As with all other Maran Illustrated books, they've done an excellent job combining clear photos and instructive illustrations to guide you during the learning process. They even use multiple exposure photos with "ghosting" to show fingering sequences so that you can tell what movement should be combined with finger positioning. Very nicely done. In addition to just showing you how to play, they also cover the history of guitars and the masters of the instrument. It ends up giving you an appreciation for the instrument that you don't normally see in a "how to play" book. I like how they go beyond mere mechanics to show you how to care for your instrument, from stringing to cleaning to transportation. Basically, this covers the entire spectrum of the subject.
I've often wanted to learn to play the guitar. My wife plays and one of my sons play. I can't say that I have a lot of time to learn it right now, but at least I now have the main tool I need to help me get there when I'm ready. Excellent book, and highly recommended if you want to learn to play...
The best beginner's book I've seen!.......2005-06-25
Back in high school (a LONG time ago) I dabbled in guitar, but haven't touched one in decades. I've been seriously thinking about taking up this instrument again when, lo and behold, a review copy of "Maran's Illustrated Guitar" showed up in my mailbox -- probably because I've reviewed other books with creative graphics layouts. It certainly wasn't because of any expertise on the guitar! But God works in strange ways, they say...
This book is absolutely the best beginner's guide I've seen, and the one I'm actually using to learn the guitar. It covers everything from the history of the guitar, famous guitarists, types of guitars (classical, acoustic, electric), how to buy, clean, repair, change strings, perform adjustments and maintenance -- and of course, how to play it. Not only does this book have the usual chord charts, it has actual photos showing how to place the fingers on the frets. And it doesn't just cover basic chords. It also includes a section on reading music and playing single notes -- something I did not find in other beginner's books. After learning the basics, you can turn to specific chapters for pointers on Rock, Blues, Country, Folk, or Classical guitar, with different picking and strumming styles clearly explained. (For each section, the model holding the guitar is dress appropriately for the genre -- a nice touch!) There is also a chapter on amplifers and other equipment for electric guitar players, and a section on setting up a home recording studio.
One of the best things I learned is that there are now electronic tuners for guitars (and most other instruments) -- something that did not exist in my high school days. I immediately bought one. As with everything else in this book, there was a clear description of the types of tuners, the pros and cons of each, etc., complete with photos.
The graphical layout is very well done and pleasing to the eye. The photos are interspersed with the text to get away from the boring "Gutenberg box" effect. Another plus is that the binding is flexible enough for the book to lay flat while playing -- a major convenience when both of your hands are busy holding the guitar. In short, this is a beautiful book and a pleasure to use. Highly recommended!

Book Description
With [Bob Schulberg's] death, radio lost a brilliant advocate and a good friend. Fortunately, Bob's gifted son, Pete, knows a lot about broadcasting, too both as a broadcast newsman and a newspaper journalist covering the media. Pete has picked up where his dad left off, bringing the book up to date with a skill and thoroughness I know Bob would be proud of. Good writing runs in the Schulberg family. Radio is magic all right. And the Schulbergs, Bob and Pete, explain how the magic works. "This is required reading for all broadcasters and all sales people in all markets and formats. -- Rocky Blumhagen Station Manager KGON/KNRK Portland, OR "Radio Advertising: The Authoritative Handbook is a must read for both neophytes and veterans of the broadcasting business." -- Jerry Feniger Managing Director Station Representatives Association "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree! Pete Schulberg has undated his father's classic work for the cyberspace era, producing a wholly contemporary book that retains the first edition's clear, readable presentation of those fundamentals essential to every broadcaster and advertising professional. Radio Advertising is worthwhile reading for students and newcomers to the business as well as seasoned pros who are looking for new ideas on how to use radio more effectively. This book is a winner!" -- Roger Baron Vice President, Director of Media Research Foote, Cone & Belding
Customer Reviews:
The Definative Book On Radio Advertising.......2002-11-09
As a former General Sales Manager in Radio, with 30 plus years experience, I can attest to the value of this book. Both of the authors are radio veterans and know the business inside and out.
If you're in radio sales, or want to be, this IS THE BOOK you'll want to build your knowledge with. If you purchase radio advertising, this book will help demystify the medium.
As a former radio sales manager,I purchased and gave this book to my sales staff. I wanted them to be equipped with the best knowledge available--this book contains that knowledge.
In my collection of books on and about radio, RADIO ADVERTISING is at the top of my list of recommended books about the subject. There just isn't a better volume available. Don't forget-if you purchase the book for self-education, for use in your career or business, you can write it off as a business expense. Well worth YOUR INVESTMENT IN YOURSELF!
Valuable Reference Book for Small Businesses.......2002-06-01
Too often, small business owners spend significant portions of their budgets on advertising but, since they can't afford professional advertising agencies, they're forced to make their own local market buys and they're also responsible for making sure the air time/ad space they buy relates an effective message about their product or service.
Guerrilla Marketing and the Wizard of Ads series' provide excellent overall marketing ideas for small business owners. However, "Radio Advertising" provides practical advice pertaining specifically to radio advertising -- from writing copy to generating public service announcements and news time.
Media sales professionals shold also own a copy of this book because it can spark an idea for an effective campaign and it also is a great tool to leave behind for a prospective client -- how the sales professional works, how radio can and should work and whether or not radio is an appropriate fit for the prospect.
The Best Reference for Radio Advertising.......2000-07-22
This book I found to be not only complete but also incredibly informative. I have personally done a tremendous amount of radio advertising, and I found this book to be very useful in actually obtaining a successful result from my ads. This book will not only give you exact tips on how to compile the contents of your radio advertising campaign, but also provide you with details on how the industry itself works. This book is fantastic and extremely useful to any business owner seeking to get into promoting their company or activity on radio without making it a losing game. I found this book to be truly the authoritive text on the subject and quite unmatched by any other text in the industry. A definite key reference for any serious advertiser's library.
Great Information for College Project.......2000-03-22
I ordered this book from Amazon, which I received three days later, and must stop here for a moment to say that not only was it very informative and just what I was looking for, but I was also very interested from cover to cover. Pete Schulerg does a great job of wrapping SO many areas together, and I feel I learned a great deal about the workings of radio advertising with the help of this book. I am confident the project I am turning in on this subject will get an "A"...Thank You!
Add depth and insight to your radio selling........2000-03-13
Of all the trade journals, training manuals, industry insight, management tutoring, mandatory meetings and corporate ya-ya I've endured while selling radio, the straight-forward information contained in this book is more helpful then all of that stuff - combined.
Spell Bruce Sprinsteen's name correctly on page 61, and you've got a masterpiece.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Quick Reference.......2006-02-26
The Cisco 802.11 Wireless Networking Quick Reference book by Toby J, Velte, PH.D. and Anthony T. Velte, has pretty much everything you would want to know about wireless networking using Cisco Systems Aironet devices. I was thinking this book would just contain quick commands on configuring access points, configuring Cisco Aironet Wireless cards and so on, boy was I wrong.
Cisco 802.11 Wireless Networking Quick Reference has a lot to offer. First off it is a small size book. Can be easily thrown into someone's admin bag and pulled out for reference. Well organized Table of Contents, easy to find a particular topic. This book would be good for a beginner looking to find some useful info on Cisco Aironet products or a expert looking to refresh on a particular topic pertaining to Aironet devices. The first part of the book goes over technique specs, and the second goes over "after installation issues". The first chapter goes over Cisco Wireless Equipment, Access Points, Bridges, WLAN Controllers, and adapters. You will find useful information on the different models of Access Points, adapters and so on. There is a pretty extensive chart showing and comparing the different properties of access points, different antenna and so forth. Very useful information like signal range, noise ratio's etc.
There is a chapter dedicated just to antenna's. Which antenna to use for the right application, omni directional, bi directional among others. You will also find a comparison chart with information and specs relating to each antenna. Again, very useful information for a WLAN implementation. Cisco 802.11 Wireless Networking Quick Reference has a very in-depth section on WLAN encryption security and authentication. Shows you examples of configuring filtering, RADIUS server setup and WPA. Initial Setup, cabling sections are very well written as well. This book will help you with integrating a wired LAN and your new WLAN. The figures are well displayed, and there are real pictures of the devices mentioned in the book.
I recommend Cisco 802.11 Wireless Networking Quick Reference for a beginner in the WLAN world. Looking for a starting point if they want to pursue a CQS cert in Wireless. As mentioned earlier, it would also benefit a expert as a quick reference when encountering a problem with there existing WLAN or a new implementation. In a rating of 1 to 5, 5 being the highest. This book gets a 5 hands down.
A Pretty Complete 'Quick' Reference.......2005-12-09
Most quick references are litle cut down booklets that usually just give you enough information to get you in trouble. The Velte's idea of a quick reference run for 288 pages. It's a reference all right, but the amount of data contained in it is enough so you can probably really solve the problem that you are looking up.
This is a Cisco book, so the material being discussed is oriented around Cisco products. But remember that Cisco owns Linksys and Aironet, so this book covers the traditional Cisco product line and also those of the other companies. A good bit of the book is on the 802.11 standard itself. This includes such things as frequencies, security procedures, generalized design tips on how to design your network and so on.
Cisco has quite a number of certifications that apply to networking and to wireless. There isn't enough information in this book to enable you to pass the certification test (Or at least, there isn't enough for me to pass it.) but there's probably enough to enable you to get your network going.
Jam packed with great information.......2005-11-11
Hats off to Toby Velte for this awesome refernce book. I currently hold CWNA and CWSP wireless certifications as well as CCNA and CCDA, and I find ths book packed with some great reference material.
Usually when you see a "Quick Reference" book means that it has limited information and explanations. Not so with this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who works on wireless networks or are planning on implementing wireless.
