I got this book when my husband and I started to slow down in the bedroom. We are still young and still newlyweds. The book really helped us spice things up in the bedroom. It is very educational and can show you a lot of new things. If you are able, get this book. You will not regret it.

Nicky kicks *ss with this one. Simply the best book about early rock and roll and who influenced the music we love. Lots of great stories about people you've never heard of. This book will make you go out and buy cds from Europe where much of the artist's music is available in public domain. Or maybe you'll be searching on Amazon. Either way, you'll love it! A great read from a great writer.

This may be, quite simply, the best non-fiction book on music. I agree with his main point -- in rock and roll, there is nothing new under the sun; everything truly innovative was done by someone over half a century ago (and there's a good chance they were drunk at the time). What Tosches does is tell these stories is a way that will have you laughing out loud and running to the CD store to pick up as much of this music as you can find.

The best book about the history of Rock and Roll I have ever come across. My goal is to find and hear musis by each of the artists featured in the book, including Ming & Ling, the Chinese Hillbillies, bless their inscrutable souls. The opening paragraphs in the chapter on Big Joe Turner are worth the price of admission itself.

Tosches captures the energy of a nascent musical form with wit and no small amount of fury. The Merman chapter alone is worth the price of admission, opening new avenues of appreciation. Seek this one out.

I had read Michael Gross' book Model and I was so impressed by it that I bought his other books and this was the next one I read and I was totally blown away by it for all the same reasons. Gross is a master of a flowing prose which just effortlessly moves the reader along with a sweeping reach which is perfect for a book like this. Minor details just hit home on every page. I worked at Studio 54 and I think I learned more about the club from this book than I did by working there! For instance I had always believed that Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager had been college friends but reading My Generation I learned that in fact Ian had early on been Steve's lawyer and suddenly the relationship made sense. I am moving in on the 740 Park book now with full anticipation. My Generation is a fantastic book.

Get back to where you once belonged.......2001-02-20

The author chose the playing field on which to analyse the Sixties---through the lives of 19 influential and somewhat well-known "Boomers," as opposed to the average Joe or Judy. Fine. So you can't really complain that Donald Trump doesn't belong here--sure he does, he was born in 1946--but in the end his chronicles tell you less about the Sixties and more about himself, more than he'd probably care to admit. Several of the other life stories are much more interesting than Trump's, but in the end they also don't tell me much more than I'd already ascertained; that when people grow, they change. Some here haven't change much except idealogies; conservative Barbara Ledeen apparently still sees heinous conspiracies in everything, only they're left-wing conspiracies now instead of the right-wing ones of her former Marxist incarnation. Others, such as Doug Martlette, Marianne Williamson and David McIntosh, did major overhauls in their outlook and POV. But none of these chronicles really tells me anything about what made the Sixties more influencial than, say, the Fifties or the Eighties. This makes Michael Gross' book a qualified sucess as a cultural history of America, but a very engrossing collection of people's lives---the good, bad, ugly and lovely.

A great edition for any true Xena fan. Read through the list of things Gabrielle has learned from her friend Xena as well as the ins and outs of living life on the road, (or the dirt track as they would say) A great read, full of good laughs and informative too.

This was a real cute book..a must for any "hardcore nutball" Xena fan. I like the pictures and Renee O'Connor's small top ten list in the front was a big bonus...It was not a real introduction, but good nonetheless. I wouldn't spend a huge amount of money on it..but good for the price here.

Gabrielle's scrolls.............2000-01-19

Hmmmm, this book is quite good - but I believe that there are better ones out there. If you're a complete xena freak like me then, then you'll want to have it - it is amusing, especially as it is from gabby's point of view, and sometimes the author manages to nail it and you can hear gabby's voice saying the words. It's not for someone who doesn't know the programme too well. It often makes brief references to episodes and I'm not really sure how much sense it would make if you hadn't seen them. It is quite a short book, but you'll not want to put it down until you've read it. Don't buy this if you're looking for something really informative about the show. This book is a bit of fun and nothing more - like I said before - something for the die-hard fans rather than anyone else....

If you want to learn everything about Gabrielle's life this is the book for you! Her stories and journeys with Xena will thrill and take you beyond the pages of her book. Every chapter has something new, and you learn many things about the way she lives with Xena, and Joxer too. Pick this book to learn more then even Xena knows about Gabrielle's life.

This book will not let any Xena fan put it down!.......1999-07-23

This book is a creative way of putting any xena fan on the journeys. It comes from Gabrielle's perspective of lessons, discoveries, friendship,and many things well taught, that she's learned on the journeys. As a Xena fan I recommend it. Though it's fairly short, It will keep you turning the pages all night long! Complete with a Introduction by Renee 'O Connor, I find it a very believable book.

Excellent resource for the Rational Rose BEGINNER.......2003-04-25

Rational Rose is a powerful tool, but like most such tools, it can be intimidating. The Unified Modeling Language or UML is also complex, so the combination can pose a problem for even the bravest of developers. Fortunately, this book is available to step you through the initial phases of beginning a project using the combination of UML with Rational Rose.
The form of the explanations is demonstrated by the example on page 136.

Creating Start States in Rational Rose
1. Click to select the Start icon from the toolbar.
2. Click on the statechart diagram to draw the Start icon.
3. Click to select the State Transition icon from the toolbar.
4. Click on the Start icon and drag the arrow to the desired state.

And there is a diagram following it that is an example of what the result should look like. Since all of the major areas of design are covered, with this book, some knowledge of the UML and a copy of Rational Rose, even the visual modeling beginner can begin creating their designs with almost no preparation.
There are those who will say that this book is too simplistic in tone. My response is to commend them for their abilities and to recommend another book. However, for all who are just beginning their relationship with Rational Rose, I strongly recommend this one.

Not too hot.......2003-03-10

I found this book disappointing and wondered why I would ever need to use Rational Rose. For a start, the examples in the appendices of code generation are for C++ and Visual Basic. Whatever happened to Java? Second, probably the most important design technique in use today, Design Patterns, hardly gets a mention on p175, with a reference to read the GoF book.

So what are we left with? Old-fashioned programming languages and techniques. Buy a book on Java design patterns instead, of which Amazon sells several.
