Book Description
Real wages, the result of a simple division of wages by prices, are at the centre of historical and socio-economic research. In a time of growing commercial and industrial internationalism, a respected group of historians and economists successfully challenge conventional methods of identifying and evaluating real wages in order to provide a realistic assessment of living standards in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Childish Skits, No Wit.......2006-09-06
Flipping through this book reminds me of how embarrassing IAF's albums are. A typical skit of theirs is made up of one overstretched one-joke premise with a bland "message" tagged on to the very end. The delivery always had spaces that were the aural equivalent of a neon APPLAUSE signs to help along the usually humorless Bible-campers in their audience.
Such dumb "parodies" of tv as "Leave it to Squirley" are not interesting enough to hold the attention of adults who may know of "Leave it Beaver", but it will surely mystify the 9 or 10 year olds who are at IAF's level. This book kicks off with "Jerusalem Dragnet", which has unsettling similarities to a Stan Freiberg comedy album from the late 1950s--but without any internal jokes, wit, or puns. Undoubtedly IAF were inspired by the true geniuses of album sketch comedy, The Firesign Theater. But TFT's albums from the 1970s stand up to repeated listenings even for fairly young folk.
Skit comedy is a flogged horse nowadays, but IAF's gee-wiz "witnessing tools" were trite propaganda even back in the 1970s and '80s.
Christian Comedy sketches at it's BEST.......1998-03-20
The material in this book is inspired by God. It takes simple biblical truths and humorously reveals them through drama. The only negative comment is that there will be no sequels.
Product Description
You Can Teach Yourself Mandolin is written as a teach-yourself text with play-along examples and tunes on the companion recording. In the author's word, "It is aimed at helping you get started immediately on your way to mandolinhood by giving you the basics of the mandolin and mandolin playing." With this informal, often humorous text, Dix Bruce will guide you step-by-step through the basics of learning this versatile instrument. Learn all about accompanying yourself and others, common chords and useful strums, reading simple melodies, playing a colorful assortment of mandolin folk songs, and more. All musical examples and tunes are written in both standard notation and tablature. Diagrams of all the principal chords used on the mandolin are shown in the Chord Appendix, making this book a particularly useful study aid for the beginning mandolinist. Illustrated with drawings and photographs of vintage instruments.
Book Description
"Only skin deep," "getting under one's skin," "the naked truth": metaphors about the skin pervade the language even as physical embellishments and alterations -- tattoos, piercings, skin-lifts, liposuction, tanning, and more -- proliferate in Western culture. Yet outside dermatology textbooks, the topic of skin has been largely ignored.
This important cultural study shows how our perception of skin has changed from the eighteenth century to the present. Claudia Benthien argues that despite medicine's having penetrated the bodily surface and exposed the interior of the body as never before, skin, paradoxically, has become a more and more unyielding symbol. She examines the changing significance of skin through brilliant analyses of literature, art, philosophy, and anatomical drawings and writings. Benthien discusses the semantic and psychic aspects of touching, feeling, and intellectual perception; the motifs of perforated, armored, or transparent skin; the phantasma of flaying; and much more through close readings of such authors as Kleist, Hawthorne, Balzac, Rilke, Kafka, Plath, Morrison, Wideman, and Ondaatje. Myriad images from the Renaissance, anatomy books, and contemporary visual and performance art enhance the text.

Book Description
When the Arizona Historical Society created its hall of fame, the first inductees included Barry Goldwater, Sandra Day O'Conner and Wallace and Ladmo. This is the story of "Wallace," who was born Bill Thompson and was the creator of Arizona's most celebrated children's television show. It is a broadcasting story, chronicling how Thompson was able to keep a children's show on the air for 35 years, long after every other kids' show across the nation got the axe, longer than most shows in television history. It is also an Arizona story, telling how a wide-eyed college dropout who grew up the scion of a wealthy family in upstate New York decided to reinvent himself out West. Thompson's relatives found fortune discovering copper in the ground of Arizona. This book tells how Bill Thompson came back to claim the airwaves. What he created in Arizona was unique across the nationa funny, topical, edgy show that entertained not only children, but also teenagers, college students, and adults. For those who didn't grow up with Wallace and Ladmo, it's a chance to see what all the fuss is about. For fans, it's an illuminating glimpse into the person who greeted them on television every day. Consider it a "thanks" for tuning in.

Thanks for Tuning In.......2006-08-19
Wonderful memories - I am planning to give this to my 35 year old son on October 13 for his birthday. I will be traveling from Phx to Spokane to visit and celebrate with him and his family.
He was an avid viewer and was in attendance several times. He had his own science of where the Ladmo Bag would be distributed and was right far too many times to call it chance.

I don't know..................2005-11-02
I don't know if it's Prima or what but this book is good to a certain extent. I say that because it has your basic stragties and tips but for some of the more valuable areas or secerts you'll get frustrated. Like the tomb before you fight Baraka, you do everything the book says then something is suppose to happen in order for you to continue to that area but nothing happens. Whats that all about!?!?! Anyway you could go all the way back you came, but that gets annoying because you have to find you way back. I think Prima needs to be more in-depth with their material.

Adhesion and Adhesives: Science and Technology.......2007-08-27
This is an excellent text book that I have previously used. Now, it is a permanent part of my collection of technical reference books.
Book Description
This updated book provides a broad view of the field, with a consistent style, that leads you from one step to another in the understanding of the science, and includes problems for you to work in order to help build on the information presented in the text.
The text assumes that you have little or no knowledge of the science of adhesion and has also been written in such a fashion that even a person who has a meager knowledge of these subjects can learn something about adhesion science from reading this book. That is, the emphasis is on understanding the science rather than a complete and detailed exposition on any part of it.
In this new, second edition, each section or chapter starts with a simple view of the subject area, starting at the same point an entry-level textbook would begin. Each section or chapter then builds to a point at which more detail is available for the reader who is or wants to be a practitioner of the art and science of adhesion.
This book describes the three main disciplines that make up adhesion technology: mechanics of the adhesive bond, chemistry of adhesives, and surface science. This new edition provides you with the fundamentals of each of these areas, as they are important for the practitioner of this joining technology.

Book Description
Presents the state of the art in improving bond strength between different materials for many manufacturing processes. The text explores up-to-date, high-quality adhesion technologies for a wide variety of materials, explaining current capabilities of adhesion promotion for both students and seasoned researchers. It reviews the suitable chemistry or morphology for enhanced adhesion to metal, plastic and wood surfaces.
Customer Reviews:
Fair coverage of a broad subject.......2004-11-16
The adhesion between different materials is something people rarely consider when they think of science or engineering, yet few subjects are more important to practicioners in so many fields such as biology, materials science, chemistry, construction, medicine, etc... This book takes a big stab at trying to describe the studies of adhesion between different classes of materials such as polymers, metals, ceramics, and even biological organisms. The book also includes a chapter on the modeling of adhesion at the atomic scale. As such, it is worth reading... but the problems arise in that each chapter is written by a different author(s) and one clearly notices the biasness of each author towards the research they do. Each of the different topics end up focusing on a few test cases. For example, the section on metal - ceramic adhesion deals with really one ceramic, alumina, even though many metal - ceramic couples are being studied quite extensively. Because of this, I would not recommend this book as an introduction to the field. It does make a good reference for those who work with adhesion.
