The book is fairly good and presents a lot of inside information, real life experiences and testimonies of important people in the business. It is good if you just want to skim the surface of the music industry, but if you want the complete guide you should see a far better title "Music Business & Entertainment Law Contracts for Indie Recording Artist, Labels, Songwriters, Composers, Producers, Managers and All Others in the Record Industry. Preprinted Binder" By Ty Cohen that will guide you all the way and present you with the optimum solutions

this book is very precise and chronologically correct. each chapter leads to the next covering nearly every aspect of the artist/songwriter-end of the music industry. i especially liked the sparatic quotes from interviews with successful artists, A&Rs, CEOs, publishers and producers in the industry. don't buy this book if you're looking for an easy way to land a deal, but do buy it if you are willing to work at advancing your music career and would like a practical guide to give you an advantage over the competition. i highly recommend this book, it's a must-read for anyone that desires to MAKE MONEY with their music and aquire basic knowledge about the music industry including what common mistakes to avoid straight from the mouths of industry big-wigs.

This book is an invaluable resource to any artist trying to make it. It is not only about how to meet A&R people and push your music, but is also about getting your career set and maneuvering to have the A&R people come to you. This book made me reevaluate what my attitude was toward getting signed. I no longer believe in the fairy-god-mother-record-company myth, and the insight from this book will help me put my music career on the right path.

An almost complete and well written guide explaining the steps that a struggling musician has to take to ensure success in the record business. You'll find everything here starting from your first contract to the first live shows. A better book that explains exactly the same principles in a more intuitive and easy to understand matter is "The Music Business: How You Can Make $500,000.00 (or More) a Year in the Music Industry by Doing It Yourself! Volume II" By Ty Cohen, . You'll find here testimonies and examples based on the evolution of real companies

This book is the best I've read on how to get a record deal. Actually, there are no other books out specifically on this topic. Ms. Schwartz has organized a lot of great information into a concise book. She includes lots of specific things that are common sense but we still don't remember to do. I've read it twice already, there's so much info packed into each chapter. I'm putting out my own CD and the info in the Real Deal was very relevant since I'm trying to get a distribution deal. It's also great for artist development. I read her other book, Start & Run Your Own Record Label and got just as much out of this one. They have different info - she didn't rehash much so you have to read both. The Real Deal is the real deal - she tells how hard it is to get a deal. But it offers lots of motivation and a good spiritual attitude. Thank you Daylle Deanna Schwartz for writing such informative books!

An Essential Guide for All Musicians.......2000-08-18

As a former recording artist turned entertainment lawyer, I highly recommend this book! This is a great basic guide for new musicians (and their managers) who are learning their way around the record industry. It is detailed yet infinitely readable. It is a good reference guide to the ins and outs of getting a record deal - and has other valuable information about the inner workings and politics of getting signed.

Zeroxed Book?.......2006-09-14

I didn't like this book. It does not go into the individual concepts enough. I found it to be really unhelpful. And sorry, but my desk already has a paperweight. And I have issues about spending any amount of money for what amounts to a bound version of copied paper. The entire book was a very poor zerox copy.

Did they photocopy this book?.......2006-04-27

I just opened up the OOP section and noticed that the diagrams that are in the book appear to be photocopied. One diagram shows an inheritance relationship between some banking objects. There are nine objects in the diagram and you CAN NOT see the lines bordering each object, nor the lines between the objects. Most of the other line diagrams are fuzzy and not solid (imagine taking a faint line drawing and photocopying it). Two big thumbs down on printing quality. As for the material, I have read about 3-4 paragraphs, so I can't comment on it. I am seriously considering returning it since some of the diagrams are unreadable.

Waaaaay too basic.......2006-02-14

OK. I am an experienced C/C++ programmer, so you have to keep in mind that this review will be based on my background. The book is OK. That's why I gave it a 3, but it's nothing more. It is very basic. It has good explanation of the basics, but nothing more. And my opinion is that if you are a C/C++ programmer you really don't need the C# basics. They are just so similar. The thing I hate the most about this book is that it doesn't go into depth at all. Some concepts are not explained very well either. I actually wish that I hadn't bought this book. I am yet to see a good C# book.

A good introductory book - if you already have a good background in C/C++. Otherwise, you'd be struggling and may need some other really basic books to complement your reading.

Most books have erratas and this book is no exception. However, it is minimal and acceptable.

During a recent trip to County Cork, looking for O'Driscoll heritage sites, we found this book in the library at Skibbereen, and knew we had to have it! The descriptions of places in Cork in the 1830s was very helpful to gain an understanding of the life and times of our ancestors.

Each gorgeous, full-color, oversize spread covers a different historical topic or region through the years, complete with maps, charts, and concise text. Examples include "The Spread of Islam from AD 632", "The Industrial Revolution in Europe", "The Russian Revolution 1917 to 1925." Overall the exposition is engaging and to-the-point. The authors are British; this shows up both in the spelling and in the text's occasionally rather tendentious interpretation of events, particularly those involving the United States "hegemony." For example, the election of Ronald Reagan is attributed to "Nationalism, a tax-payer's revolt, and a widespread wish to be reassured..." and Carter is not even mentioned.

But overall, this book is worth having for the overall quality of its presentation and the sheer volume of little facts packed into its maps and diagrams.

Actually, I picked this book up on accident. I was looking for a similarly titled Atlas for a college class, and I ordered this one on accident. I was a little bummed about getting the wrong book, yet this little compliation of world history with lovely pictures didn't keep me depressed for too long. I actually showed it to the professor, and she contemplated using this book next semester. :)

EXCELLENT CAMPAIGN MAPS.......2004-03-18

This atlas, edited by John Keegan, is an excellent companion when reading books on battles and campaigns waged during the Second World War, primarily because of the excellent map coverage with maps that are large, comprehensive, and easy to read. Along with the numerous maps, the editor includes a synopsis of events related to each map in question. The editor also includes a chronology of events of the war which helps keep events in proper chronological perspective for the reader. In addition to covering military action, the editor provides related ancillary information such as information on signal intelligence, human intelligence as well as economic and historical information related to causes and effects of the war. The editor is to be commended for producing a five star product. I wish only I had the atlas on hand when I was reading books on Guadalcanal, New Guinea, and other Pacific islands since the maps in the atlas give the reader a very clear perspective of the area in question. Five stars!

I bought my copy in Border's Books and Music JUST RECENTLY on sale ...and our family has used it for reference. If AlexM from MI sees this comment, Borders had stacks of them and going fast. I, too, think this is a very good Atlas especially for anyone reading history.

Collins has also published other great Atlas' on the "Bible" and one called "Past World", which I also bought [it] from Borders. After researching on Amazon, I noticed they had quite a few from Collins on various topics at very good prices. ...

I do not know if what I am about to say is a "review" since I am not a historian but I loved this book so much that I used to read it and look at the pictures at times a few times a week. It is comprehensive, very patriotic and informative; it gives an excellent perspective of the events of that time.

In many areas of the world, environmental degradation in and around human settlements is undermining prospects for both socioeconomic justice and ecological sustainability. To explore the issues involved in this worldwide problem, Keith Pezzoli focuses on a dramatic instance of conflict that grew out of the unauthorized penetration of human settlements into the Ajusco greenbelt zone, a vital part of Mexico City's ecological reserve. The Mexican government's initial response to these "irregular" human settlements was contradictory and reactive. Social unrest, ecological deterioration, and violence have all been part of the continuing crisis.

The heart of the book is the story of what happened when residents of Los Belvederes, a group of Ajusco settlements, fought relocation by proposing that Los Belvederes be transformed into Colonias Ecolthe bo Productivas, or productive ecology settlements. Through innovative organized resistance, their grass-roots movement generated environmental and social action that eventually won crucial state support. Pezzoli draws upon urban and regional planning theory and practice to examine biophysical as well as ethical and social sides of the story, and he uses the Mexican experience to identify planning strategies to link economy, ecology, and community in sustainable development.
