I picked up a copy of this book a long time ago from the kansas university bookstore. I couldn't believe how much better it was than anything in the paper. Why wasn't it in the paper?!! of course! It was too good to be next to those cheap hacked out cookie cutters. it was sam hurt that inspired me to start my own career as an underground cartoonist . And it was sam hurt that I ultimately blame for getting thrown out of kansas university art school. Curse your damn cartoon!--chris burn

GREAT BOOK!.......2004-06-04

This book made all the VH albums like new to me again because of Eddie's more indepth descriptions of how he made those great sounds.

EVH: The Interviews.......2000-04-13

This book is filled with 12 different interviews with one of Rock's legendary guitar heroes: Eddie Van Halen. All of the interviews are culled from past Guitar World issues, and to my knowledge, are complete. They are arranged by publication dates, which range from 1981 to 1997.

Most are filled with the typical questions, and more than a few touch on the David Lee Roth's departure. One interview is given by Billy Corrigan (Smashing Pumpkins)! Never would have saw that one coming!

I have read most of these interviews from the magazine, but it was great to have them in one book. After reading several of them, I realized that either I hadn't read the orginal interviews completely, or I just plain forgot about some facts! It was a joy to go back and re-read them.

It's nice to see a timeline of Eddie's progress from a childhood pianist to a full fledged guitar god. It's also nice to see a bound book with these gems, as the ink from a book does not smear from constant reading like a magazine does!

While there were pictures peppered here and there, they were black and white. I would like to see more pictures (color), and the originals sidebars that accompanied the magazine editions (ie. equipment, setups, etc...)

If the publishers had included that last bit of info, I would definately give this book a five. Who knows, Eddie is still kicking, maybe they will release another edition!

I read the edition published by citadel press and found it to be a great read. I mean how many times do you get blank stares from people when you describe some unbelievable pilot you saw back when? Now you can show them the reference in this book!

As far as I'm concerend a few of the pilots in this book sounded like good shows.

I think a second edition with more entries would be great.

Even better I'd like to see a DVD compilation with these pilots in it!

This book is a joy -- brings back memories of old stars, old shows, ideas that didn't sell, super trivia!
Author Goldberg has done his research and his humorous writing style make this guide a table top or bathroom counter top best-seller.
Obviously Goldberg knows his territory.
He's a t.v. writer/producer with a love of television and an eye for the humor of what never made it to the home screens.
Read this and you can be an authority on shows you never saw.

Take my word for it, you will go back again and again to look up shows and stars and story lines in this clever little book full of big information.
And, want to see if your favorite star ever made a failed pilot -- look it up here and have a few good giggles.

A fascinating look at what could have been on network tv if not for someone's bright idea. Goldberg is funny and his research really shows in this top notch book. A must for TV junkies.

More like 1/10th complete; fun but shallow........1999-12-12

This is a fun book to read (indeed a cover blurb announces it as "Best Bathroom Reading Ever"), but it fails as a comprehensive reference work to TV pilots.

The book lists over 300 pilots, along with a plot synopsis and information on stars, running time, network, and more. The problem is that there have been many more pilots than this book covers ("Experimental Television, Test Films, Pilots, and Trial Series, 1925 Through 1995 : Seven Decades of Small Screen Almosts" by Vincent Terrace lists 10 times the number of pilots.) The book also divides the pilots by topic, rather than sorting them by title, which makes for annoying reading. I would have preferred the pilots to all be listed together, alphabetically, perhaps with a small topic index in the back.

Fun for a quick overview of the follies of TV, but useless for reference work. To be honest, I wouldn't be giving this a bad review if it weren't for the fact that the book is advertised on the cover as "The Almost Complete Guide..."- I doubt highly that this was the intention of the author. He makes note in his acknowledgements that this is an abridged edition of his book, and thanks other authors who have written more complete guides.

From the concept of dramas and sitcoms to everything else under the sun, this book gives a brief synopsis to unsold TV pilots. This book gives incredible insight to ideas that just didn't pan out. Probably with good reason, too! Read it and find out for yourself.

Good book to start with.......2007-01-12

I have been using these visual quickstart books for all my software, I have found them to be a great place to start when learning basics and to get you going. Later on you may want to delve into more geek type stuff, but if you want to get going and accomplish something right away with your new software or programs, I recommend these books.

Keynote is not overly complicated, but I wanted to see what I could really do on some projects I had in mind, and this book was a big help and saved me time.

Great but not if you upgraded from book 1 to book 2.......2006-02-27

The original book, which dealt with Keynote 1, was very helpful. I hoped this one would add or expand, since the author had a chance to improve on the original just as Apple had when they went up a version. No luck. I wasted my money. However, if you're buying this one and don't have a previous edition it should be great. Don't forget that Apple's Keynote version 3 is now out so you can expect another book soon, maybe.

I'm giving this a 5 since it's a great book but for me, buying the second edition of the same book, the second one is nothing new.

Great Program!!.......2005-10-08

I am involved in doing around 100 Keynote Presentations a year! I am certified through Microsoft for PowerPoint. I find Keynote far superior to PowerPoint. Tom has done a magnificant job writing this book! If you are looking for a simple no nonesense book to learn Keynote look no further. I have used a lot of computer learning books this is the best! I recommend this one to everyone. The chapter creating custom themes is worth the price of the book.

With this superb work, Joseph Lehmann relates amusing, hard to find, and interesting obscure facts from througout history. I could not put this book down, a must read for any history buff who could use some more trivial facts, and who couldn't!
