i'm an amateur that want to improve his compositional skill and i found this book a bit superficial. beautiful photos and a brief narration of the background that to shot involves; nice hints to shot similar photos but no more. i found understanding exposure of the same author a far lot better to maintain title promises.
Exactly what I needed.......2007-08-15
I purchased this book earlier this summer and couldn't be more pleased with the information it contains. I needed some inspiration to "see" things differently to make my photographs more dramatic. Bryan's writing and assignments in this book really changed the way I look at the composition of a scene and the way I see colors and how they compliment each other. My photos have improved A LOT since applying some of the principles written about in this book.

I found the information in the book worth money I paid. I love photography but something was missing in getting appealing result with my photos. This book fills some holes in my amateur knowledge and also opened my mind to different thinking and approach. Good examples of right and wrong, nice recommendations. Specialy I live author's good sense to explain observation techniques with everyday and real life situations.
I'm still not done, searching for another book.

This book delivers on its promise to teach you how to see the world in ways that will lead to better photos. The examples (photographs and commentary) are inspiring and the author provides enough details about technique so you know how he took the picture but you're not overwhelmed. It is an enjoyable read and I like to go back and look at the examples again and again. I only wish the book were longer, I was sorry when I finished it.

Great book, but NO references!.......2007-01-02
I LOVED this book when I was 13 and it first came out. What's not to love? A whole bunch of facts about the sexual attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors of cultures all across history and places to make you laugh, gasp, and blush. I thought it was awesome. But now, after having attended 3 years of college I have one question: Why are there NO references? I mean not any, none - nada. No explanations of where any of this information came from at all. None of it. Not one single factoid. Like a woman removing a baby from the wrong area of her anatomy. Virgin births. It is the things of this sort I find especially hard to believe, and things like this that tend to place the rest of the items of the book in a new light for me. So read this book with a grain of salt, don't just believe everything is absolutely the truth since it is written on the cover.

This is a good book because it covers the subject of "Southwest Louisiana Pop" music in great detail. Lots of names and quotes of the people who shaped the sound. The author did his homework and the reader gets a lot of info - a LOT. I have read this book several times because it is a great refresher course on the musicians, promoters, the night clubs, and what all.

Great Insight into the Second Season.......2005-02-01
I really love Farscape and the second season was a pretty good one. I agree that some of the episodes took some real negative swipes at women, which was disappointing since the show has such strong women characters. It's great that Pelucir calls them out on that because no one wants to see that on such a good show.
Although a few photos would have been nice, I understand from my uncle who is an entertainment lawyer, that only official guides can have photographs and quotes. This was news to me, but it makes sense. Henson and CO probably wouldn't be too keen on critiques that aren't 100% positive, but that's what makes this book cool.
Season 2 is generally better than season 1--in most shows--because everyone is hitting their groove and this book is a great way to experience the show, whether for the first time or for the hundreth time.
An Honest Look.......2003-10-17
It's about time some one took an honest look at this show. I love Farscape and though I don't agree with all of Pelucir's comments, it sure is nice to have someone actually talk about the pros and cons of the episodes rather than just say what a great job everyone is doing.

SInce this isn't an official guide, there aren't any photos, etc. because you can only get those if you are on the studio's payroll!!
Hey, just remember than anything which claims to be unofficial and has photos of the actors has been okayed by the studio. If you want to read the same old corporate line, go there. If you want to really discuss the show -- buy this book!
A Weak Book.......2002-12-06
As with the previous book in this series, you get nice episode recaps paired with thoughtful, careful analysis provided by someone who often does not really understand the show and is completely oblivious of this shortcoming. Criticisms and analysis range from insightful, to trivial, to clearly misguided. I'm getting rid of my copy of this book and wish I had not spent money on it.

This book like its predecessor, is very detailed in the storylines and critiques, however it needs undoubtly some sort of photos to make this book more attractive. This problem I already raised in my comment of the guide for the First Season.

Good book for getting a handle on DB access in .Net.......2005-04-14
The book is well layed out and clearly written. It can be read out of sequence. Each chapter is self contained. It shows how you can get a free copy of MSDE sql server 2000 and deftly outlines the versions and how to get started using it. It begins with a good recap of basics of database. It follows with basics of sql. Then does excellent job of enabling you to handle administrative tasks of sql on your machine and getting started. It talks about new interface ADO, ASP Net and ties in xml. Well done. Got me going from startup.
Definitely worthwhile.......2005-04-03
I struggled for a long time to wrap my head around the new data access methodology of VB.Net. DataConnections, DataAdapters, DataSets, DataTables, DataGrids, DataViews, etc. It was all very confusing. This book divides up each of those components and shows how they stand independent of each other. Most helpful was how it introduced the dataset without using any database. Only when the concepts of the dataset were understood, did it tie in the dataset together to a database source. That approach is what got me past the confusion that was holding me back.
I didn't like the way the authors prefer to set everything in code instead of using the property pane and the designer but I got past that. Also, generally the code examples were more to demonstrate the principles being explained than to actually implement a technique one would like to do in a real-world application. That's not such a bad thing, but sometimes it's nice to have that too. I recommend this book for someone that needs to get the fundamentals of ADO.Net.

Takes the mystery out of ADO.NET.......2003-06-28
This book helped de-mystify ADO.NET for me. Database access in .NET is a complex topic that was handled elegantly in this book. It's clear, concise, easy to read, and has a good mix of prose and step by step instruction that one needs to get a jump start with ADO.NET. I recommed it highly.

I am reading the book, A Table in the Presence, and just discovered I knew the author's parents in Northern Virginia 30 years ago. The book is wonderfully written and tells a story that needs to be told of God's presence with the troops in Iraq. We need more TRUE accounts such as this one so the citizens of our country are aware of the peace God gives even in the middle of a war. I knew the author's mother as a wonderful Christian woman.

I love this book. If you ever want to know what it is like for the guys who are going through the horrors of war in Iraq and Afghanistan this is definitely a book to read. It reveals the sensitivity of the author to the plight of the Marines under his care, the courage and vulnerability of these same Marines and their unyielding faith in the face of danger and the enemy. Very spiritual and emotional read. I dare you to read this and not feel a peculiar wetness in your eyes and a lump in your throat. This is one of those books that tugs at your heart because of the details of the truth. For both the faithful and those who are still searching for a faith.

This was such a refreshing look at the realities of life in the war zone know as Iraq. This is an unadultary look at the life of a Marine Chaplain and the fine men and women he serves in the hell know as Iraq. It was a great book to read as a pastor and even a better book to give to a young husband and father as he shipped out to serve our country in Iraq. Buy it Read it, before you believe the next story from the news media, about why we need to cut and run
A good book from someone who was there........2007-01-04
This is a medium to smallish sized war memoir written by a Navy Chaplain who was attached to a section of Marines at the beginning of Gulf War 2. It is well written and relatively easy to read. The conclusion may leave you wanting to ask, "What happened next?" Of course, the war is still being waged at this time. I met the author and he is what you would expect of an officer, gentleman, and man of God. I enjoyed it and got another copy for my dad. Enjoy!

This is a ground-breaking book. It helps to understand why policy is often stalemated for long periods and then sometimes changes abruptly when a tipping point is reached. There are chapters by political scientists and economists who have pioneered in this kind of analysis, followed by a set of case studies of important environmenatal issues involving water, energy, the public lands and forests, fisheries and climate. The book would be great for students in environmental policy courses and provides a lot of useful insights for anybody who is interested in environmental policy change. Almost all the chapters are very accessible to students and general readers and the material is captivating.
