This book is pretty specific for the following post production programs:
1. Pinnacle Studio 2. MyDVD6 3. DVDit5
If you use these programs you'll find this book to be very helpful. If you don't use any of these programs you'll find that the step by step instructions don't really help all that much.

A great book - couldn't put it dowmn. The Cerbone family and their Italian food made me want to visit them. A wonderful family tale with lots of warmth. Reminds me of Eleven Days in August, another heartwarming and funny book about an Italian family and food.

Witty and Interesting.......2006-04-10

Giovanna/Jo is a smart and charming Italian woman who works at her family's restaurant. She's in one of those "searching for herself" or "just floating along" sort of phases. She isn't expecting any changes to her life. While she's not altogether unhappy, she's not moving toward change. Change happens whether she likes it or not. Her family's restaurant is sued for $5,000,000 by a former employee who claimed their candles caused her to have irreparable breathing problems. One of the former waitress's lawyers is a sadistic outcast from high school who is even into stalking 4 year old girls. A fire breaks out at the family's restaurant and Jo is accused of arson. Amidst the chaos, Jo meets a local organic farmer who is selling produce to her family's restaurant and let's just say, she's very interested. I would have expected more kitchen scenes. There is mention of certain dishes and recipes in the back, but not much cooking!

I gave it 3 stars because I thought the storyline was good. I liked the main character's interaction with her family. The one area that was a huge problem with me was the dialogue between the main character and her love interest - it felt awkward and was to me the most boring part of the story. I really enjoyed the restaurant scenes as they reminded me so much of the movie,"My Big Fat Greek Wedding".

This is possibly one of the most painful books I have ever read. The only reason I read it through to the end was out of a morbid curiosity to see if the ending could possibly be any worse then the beginning. Amazingly enough, it was! This is a first person narrative told in such a sarcastic, abrasive tone I had to believe the author disliked her characters almost as much as I did. Filled to the brim with cliches, antagonists who are painted as so repugnant and repulsive it is a wonder they can even function in polite society, and every other page filled with such farfetched episodes that I literally felt like physically ripping up the book out of frustration. The main narrator has an almost nasty voice and is so affected that it took me months to be able to even stomach the idea of another first person narrative.

There are tons of fun, amusing, harmless bits of comedy out there for women who are looking for some lighter reading. The fact is that this book is horrible and I can't figure out who would be idiotic enough to publish it. The author clearly cannot write, develop characters, or even think all that originally.

Honestly, the fact is that I felt the need to throw it in the trash right after I finished it so that I would never had to see it again. I have never hated a book more. PLEASE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS TRASH!

Gobbled Up in One Afternoon!.......2005-01-03

Forget just reading one chapter of this delicious tale about Jo Cerbone and the crazy, fun stew of her life. You will devour this book! You can't just sample it, you must partake of it fully. It's not dessert, people, it's an entree! Okay, enough of the food metaphors...

What started as "I'll just read a couple of chapters..." ended as "Leave me alone, I'm finishing this book." After reading LOVE AND MEATBALLS, I wanted to join the Cerbone family and cook Italian food (cooking is not one of my strong suits). The descriptions of food were mouth-watering and thankfully, the author included several recipes (that I might actually attempt to make *G*).

One of my favorite scenes (and there are many) is when Jo engages in battle wielding a frying pan--her nasty opponent has a heavy rolling pin. A big HURRAY for the fiesty Jo.

If you love warm tales of big families, comfort food, bouncing back when life throws you for several consecutive loops ... try LOVE AND MEATBALLS.

Eye Opening and Hard to Put Down.......2007-05-04

My interest in this book was sparked because one of my 3G Grandfather's brother's died there. I read it to get a sense of what happened to him. I could not put it down. This book shocked and insensed me about what history never told me. Well worth reading you are looking for read that tells history as it is rather than how it was not. I highly recommend this book also for people who have a fascination for the Civil War time period like me.

Civil War Prisioner Camp.......2007-02-23

This book was a great addition to to the information that I had on Andersonville Georgia USA by Peggy Sheppard when we visited it on an Elderhostel trip in 1999 and she was our instructor.

Superb Book.......2002-08-31

To Die in Chicago is a wonderfully researched and well-written book that provides a vivid and heartbreaking account of the Confederate prisoners who lived and died in a Union prison camp. It gives much information for anyone seeking information about ancestors held there and it offers a real sense of the prisoners' daily lives and ordeals. I checked it out six times from the library and decided it is time to buy it. You should too!

Interesting information but questionable analysis.......2001-02-24

This is a strange book and I would be interested to know how well it was received by the academic community. On the one hand, Levy quotes and footnotes a large number of original sources. (Most of these seem reliable, but he uses several Chicago newspapers somewhat uncritically, which worries me a little.) On the other hand, his analytical statements sometimes seem questionable or even simply wrong. As one example, his claim that Morgan's raid "pointed the way for" Sherman's march through Georgia is not, I think, supportable. The book overall lacks a thesis or analytical framework. The edition I read was also very badly edited, with several paragraphs actually cut off and the text missing. Having made these criticisms, the original sources, particularly prisoners' diaries, quoted by Levy do reveal a vision of a horrific place to be. At Camp Douglas, unusually for the period, prisoners were actually beaten by guards and forced to sit unclothed in the snow, among other "punishments". Levy does not analyze the fact that this brutality worsened significantly as the war went on, with the camp being reasonably tolerable in 1862 and a hellhole in 1864. Overall, this book collects interesting information but I would treat all unsupported statements made by the author with extreme caution.

Well researched and detailed presentation of POW camp.......2000-10-04

George Levy does an excellent job in presenting the life and times of a Civil War prisoner of war camp -- from its origin to its closing after the completion of the War. The most positive aspect of the book, however, is that it lacks bias; Levy is objective throughout his presentation. The only detractions of the book are what I perceived to be poor editting. For instance, several statements and facts were often repeated in later chapters. Also, tables of data were poorly presented in their format. This is not the author's fault, but rather the editor's. With regard to content, I would have preferred to read more descriptions of Camp Douglas from the Union soldiers' point of view (especially those within the Camp's garrison or the VRC). Nearly all of the views of the Camp from the Union perspective were based on administrator's reports and communications. How different were the views between the common Union soldier and the Confederate POWs? We really don't get a clear picture of this dichotomy from Levy's book. Overall, the book is better than any Andersonville book that I've read.

Western Civilization: A Brief History.......2000-06-15

I used Spielvogel's _Western Civilization: A Brief History_ when teaching a Humanities I course. _A Brief History_ is a shorter, paperback adaptation of Spielvogel's longer _Western Civilization_. Of the Western Civ texts I've used before (including the longer version of Spielvogel, I thought _A Brief History_ was the most successful. Spielvogel did a good job of choosing the most important historical events and cultural developments to include in his shorter version, at least those most likely to be included in a Western Civ course. Important information is clear both from subheadings and from the text itself, and short samples of primary texts that give students a taste of the past are included. Students also seemed to enjoy reading the _Brief History_ more other Western Civ texts I've taught. Women's history is well-represented. Only caveat: Because the text is a shorter version, not much of Asian, African, or Indian history is included.

Don't let the fact that this is a reprint of a 1989 text put you off it. Firstly, 1989 is not that far away, to some of us. More importantly, the topic of this book is not subject to obsolescence like computer memory is to Moore's Law. It refers to a mathematical technique of analysing and designing optical systems.

By using the OTF, you can often decompose the description of an optical system into the equivalent of a product of transfer functions. The modularity lets you understand each corresponding component, and possibly design it, if the latter is your aim. This system/problem decomposition enables the design of highly complex systems.

Note that the book lacks exercises. It's not optimised as a text for an undergrad optics course. More likely, it's better for the grad student or optics researcher. Along these lines, each chapter furnishes pertinent references to journal papers.

The book also describes both analytic and numerical ways to find OTFs. For the latter, the power of a typical desktop computer is now sufficient to handle many complex optical systems.
