What a waste.......2003-07-05

Don't waste your time. This book is so inefficient that, after reading pages and pages, you still wouldn't know where to start. The author kept reporting what Visual C++ can do and failed to show the basic steps in creating or managing a project.

Great Book.......2002-06-11

Well, after finishing my C++ for dummies book, I was looking for something a little more advanced and visual c++ based. This was a great purchase. It is easy to understand and does not babble on and on about random topics like some of the other programming books I have read. I really enjoyed this book. And for reference, it has an appendix in the back of c++ commands, for those of us that are a bit rusty. I wouldnt say this is the best programming book I have ever read, but I think its a good book to read if you are looking for a programmer's guide to visual c++, as what it says on the cover.

Structureless manual on the Visual C++ interface.......2000-12-11

It is difficult to understand who could have use of this book. For those who master the programming interface of Visual C++ it is unnecessary, and for those who want to learn it, the book is too unstructured and confusing. The titel points to programmers, but nowhere the word "algorithm" appears. The lack of algorithmic programming structure is also reflected in the general structure (or lack of) of the book. As an example, toolbars are introduced before dialog boxes and the Class Wizard is explained too late. The book gives examples with detailed solutions with support of the attached CD-ROM, but no problems and exercises are found. I looked for a book to recommend my students on the Visual C++ interface, but this book is actually not a text book, but a sorts incomplete manual.

OOps I was looking for a book about C++ syntax, instead i mistakenly purchased this. This book is NOT about the C++ language it's a book about aspecific C++ dev environment MS Visual C++. If you need something like this, great, but if you have had experience with one of the other Visual Studio components you won't have much use for this book. I did'nt.

A GREAT BOOK! BUT NOT FOR ENGLISH READERS!!!!!.......2002-01-10

I am a fanatic mathematical fan of Euler,to me his the greatest mathematician of all time. Of course, you would challange me. How about Newton, Gauss, and Archimedes, the universally claimed 3 of the greatest mathematician of all time. But read more, I give Euler this honor is including all other aspects of his life, and not just on maths and his achievement. Euler enjoyed his life, his maths, he adventured maths, even with one eye blind followed by the other,he never gave up. Even under the bad relationship with Fredrich the Great, he still did what he should do and never involved in politics. He enjoyed his family, he was approachable, he helped mathematicians of new generation. ( He held up his paper on calculus of variation in order to give full credit to Lagrange was just one aspect ). He was humble, he almost had good relationship with all his contempory mathmaticians. ( except a tiny quarrel with D"alembert on the problem of vibrating string ).
Can you find another scientist or mathematician in history like him ? But why I do not recommend this for english readers?? THIS IS BECAUSE THE BOOK IS NOT WRITTEN IN ENGLISH. HOW DISAPPOINTED WHEN I WAITED FOR 6 MONTHS AND FOUND THAT I COULD NOT READ THIS BOOK OF MY IDOL!!THE REASON I DID NOT RETURN IS THAT I PUT THIS BOOK ON MY SHELF AS A RESPECT TO EULER.I SINCERELY HOPE THAT SOMEONE ( WILLIAM DUNHAM IS A GOOD CANDIDATE ) WOULD TRANSLATE THE WHOLE BOOK IN ENGLISH...A SALUTE TO THE GREAT ANALYSIS INCARNATE, LEONHARD EULER !!!!!!!!

For anyone who has ever wondered what on earth they were doing with their lives, stuck in dull jobs doing work that was uninspiring, there is Alex Parker. Educated and professional, working as a paralegal and feeling like there ought to be more to her life, she gives it all up to pursue her dream of being an actress. Swearing off dating at the same time, after finding her supposed boyfriend in a most compromising position with another woman, Alex heads to Hollywood, determined to fulfill her career aspirations.

Practical and industrious, Alex knows she is going to have to work hard, take rejection and keep on plugging away until she gets that break she'll need. She alsoo knows that she'll need money and free time, and some sort of job that will give her both. With this in mind, she lands herself a job in a strip club, thinking she was merely applying for just another bartending job. One thing leads to another, and soon Alex is dancing herself. We follow her to Las Vegas with Liza, where we meet "V" and get a glimpse into the big money world of stripping and dancing in Vegas.

Through the course of The Stripper Diaries we get to know a few of the regular customers and Alex tries to figure out what it is that men are looking for when they frequent strip clubs. More than once she gives them a sympathetic ear - and of course, a lap dance as well - and tries to give each man whatever it is he seems to need.

In the end, all works out happily, or at least hopefully, for Alex. She gets her break in the television industry, working on (but not in) a sitcom that centers around a strip club. The Stripper Diaries manages to show some of the dancers in a positive light: hardworking girls doing what they need to do in a matter-of-fact way to earn money for their real dreams. They are students, mothers, and actresses. They are self-assured and self-confident. While not all are described in such honorable terms, one gets the feeling that Howard is sympathetic to the plight of the industrious and misunderstood dancer. This book isn't full of gratuitous descriptions of dancing around a pole or grinding on someone's groin; it is about the reasons people are drawn to the clubs in the first place, men and women alike. This is chick lit with a twist!

This book is a comedic, yet realistic look into the world of strip clubs. The characters were interesting, funny, and kept my attention. The dialogue was especially well written. Every woman could find something in this book to relate to - some men too. I've already recommended to my friends.

I used the 10th & 11th editions of this book during my career in the Army. It always went to the field with me and to career development schools. It is a very good overview of all the necessary field manuals to help a soldier survive on the battlefield. This should be standard issue to all soldiers in the Army no matter what your MOS is, officer or enlisted.

What was Stackpole Thinking?.......2006-07-04

Anyone looking for the old pocket sized "Combat Leader's Field Guide" should walk away from this edition.

I purchased the 13th edition of the Combat Leader's Field Guide for my Nephew who has recently deployed to the Sandbox as a brand new member of the U.S. Army. I had found the 9th edition to be quite valuable in my Army career because it could be easily carried in my equipment case or in a pocket and was chock full of valuable information. The purchase of the 13th edition was based completely upon total satisfaction with the 9th edition (which, by the way, I still own after 21 years).

The 13th edition is the size of a hardcover book. That's right, it's huge. It's ungainly! IT WILL NOT FIT IN ANY POCKET I KNOW OF ON ANY UNIFORM I've ever seen.

It no longer in any way lives up to its name of "Field" Guide. Desk Guide would be a better name, I expect. In fact, that's what I'm going to use it for instead of sending it to my nephew. Well, let's be honest, part of the reason for keeping it is because Amazon's return policy would deduct so much for postage that I would probably pay more for postage than I paid for the book to begin with.

So, Stackpole: Just what were you thinking?

Who took the Field out of "Field Guide"?

Professional Military Reference.......2001-04-26

The power this guide offers to those of us in uniform is a summary of a whole lot of infantry know-how. If you are a new lieutenant or recently promoted corporal or sergeant --this is your new fieldcraft and small-unit-leader tactical guide. If you are returning to a line unit from recruiter or drill sergeant duty, this will assist your smooth transition back into the woods. If you are a company commander, there is a good possibility that the seasoned first shirt that revised this premiere Stackpole guide--can teach you a thing or two.

If you are a non-infantry military member or a civilian with an interest, this guide will cover the basics of fighting as a small infantry unit.

Good compact reference.......2000-11-27

Combat Leader's Field Guide is a great compact reference on platoon and squad level operations. It basicly summarizes information contained in US Army field manuals FM 7-8 and FM 21-75. This book achieves it's stated goal of being a pocket reference that you can take to the field with you to jog your memory. It fits in a BDU pocket, though the top end does stick out. National Guard and Reserve personel will probably find it useful though most active duty combat arms personel should know this stuff by heart already.

Combat Leaders's Field Guide 12th edition.......2000-04-12

I read The Combat Leaders Field Guide. This book had great tactical and movement strageties, it tells how to accomplish goals for both leaders and the infantry. It also goes in depth on formations, and combat in diffrent terrains from urban combat to tropical rainforest. Basically this book tells you how to stay alive in an army field battle.

Excellent field reference for combat skills........1999-08-27

As a training petty officer for a US Naval Reserve unit this book has provided a wealth of useful information for the field combat unit. If you are a new squad leader or an old vet this book is the "Boy Scout Handbook" for surviving field combat. Sections include squad formations, movement, call for fire, patrolling, defensive positions etc.. A good resource!
