Customer Reviews:
I bought 12 copies and gave for gifts!.......2007-03-30
My husband originally bought this book, and then I read and re-read it. We have 2 sons, (10 & 12 yrs old). This book REALLY helped us to set up a program for spending and saving with our sons. I like the way is is simply laid out. I would highly recommend any parent who is interested in learning more and getting help on how to set-up the whole money thing to get this book...better earlier than later! Be patient, it does work...it just takes time and persisitence.
User-friendly and useful.......2007-02-09
We all spend a lot of time talking about how to instill proper financial values in our children. This book gives you step-by-step advice on how to make that "talk" reality. The sections on how to use the world as your financial classroom and how to instill your personal values through consumerism were perfect for our young children. Perhaps the best part of the book is that it is written in an easy-to-read, easy-to-understand style. Anyone reading this book will be able to use and implement these ideas.
Good book for all parents........2001-07-31

Book Description
Modern financial theories enable us to look at old problems in early American Republic historiography from new perspectives. Concepts such as information asymmetry, portfolio choice, and principal-agent dilemmas open up new scholarly vistas. Transcending the ongoing debates over the prevalence of either community or capitalism in early America, Wright offers fresh and compelling arguments that illuminate motivations for individual and collective actions, and brings agency back into the historical equation. Wright argues that the Colonial rebellion was in part sparked by destabilizing British monetary policy that threatened many with financial insolvency; that in areas without modern financial institutions and practices, dueling was a rational means of protecting one's creditworthiness; that the principle-agent problem led to the institutionalization of the U.S. Constitution's system of checks and balances; and that a lack of information and education induced women to shift from active business owners to passive investors. Economists, historians, and political scientists alike will be interested in this strikingly novel and compelling recasting of our nation's formative decades.

AN INTELLECTUAL TOUR DE FORCE!!!.......2000-09-03
This tome is authored by that prolific and dynamic duo, Professors Ross Grantham and Charles Rickett of the University of Auckland's Research Centre for Business Law, where I recently spent a very pleasant time as a visiting Research Fellow.
This is a truly remarkable work, providing as it does a compelling account of the law of restitution which provides coherence in its relationships with other areas of private law, reflects a consistent theoretical underpinning, and offers an organisation of the law which is not solely dependant on theory but which also reflects a contextual coherence. One important consequence of this reformulation is that the subject matter which falls properly within the ambit of the law of restitution is considerably less than is currently supposed.
Better than Birks, grittier than Goff & Jones. And a dashed good read too. As we say in Curacao, Bravo!

Book Description
Herbicides and their Mechanisms of Action highlights issues in herbicide selectivity. Developed with the input of authors from both academia and industry, this volume delivers a comprehensive and up-to-date treatment of the operation of the selectivity mechanisms of herbicides. Even more, the book discusses real-world effects of herbicides, and the results herbicides bring to bear on the environment. The authors emphasize applied aspects of the subject and concentrate on the developments of the last decade, making the book both practical and timely. With the wide variety of herbicides now available for the selective control of weed growth, it is imperative that scientists acquire a detailed understanding of the scientific bases of these herbicides. Indeed, the most recently developed herbicides work by inhibiting the enzyme systems of specific herbs, thereby retarding the growth of those herbs. For maximum effectiveness it becomes crucial that the active ingredients of these herbicides be efficiently delivered on the desired targets. Providing a state-of-the-art appraisal of this important subject, Herbicides and their Mechanisms of Action is the ideal resource for virtually all researchers and professionals involved in the development, administration, and regulation of herbicides.

Book Description
The objective of this book is two-fold: to examine key properties of III-V compounds and to present diverse material parameters and constants of these semiconductors for a variety of basic research and device applications. Emphasis is placed on material properties not only of Inp but also of InAs, GaAs and GaP binaries.
Customer Reviews:
A Comprehensive review of concurrent materials.......2000-10-08
Very elaborate review of InP properties. Although GaAs is mentioned in the title - there's very little information about GaAs. Very good literature review for InP and its alloys.
Book Description
Blasphemy! Heresy! Not since Bored of the Rings has there been such a blatant desecration of the sacred works of J.R.R. Tolkien! True fans of Middle-earth, rise up against this upstart and his distorted retelling ofThe Silmarillion, Tolkien's history of the world before The Lord of the Rings. No self-respecting Dark Lord would ever enter a rapping competition, nor would beautiful elf-maidens ever behave like this! The greatest tragic love story in fantasy history was not made possible through the efforts of a ferret, nor were the great battles of Beleriand covered by TV news crews! Don Lloyd's The Sillymarillion dares to be the first and only, and therefore we can claim without contradiction, the funniest, the most outrageous, parody of the wildly famous old professor's fiction in the last generation. The action begins in the land of Valium, an idyllic paradise, but now the tranquility has been shattered by the theft of the magical Siliputi by the Dark Lord Mostgoth. The King of the Neuter has vowed revenge and his people have rebelled against the gods themselves. Fleeing to the continent of Myrtle-earth in pursuit of their enemy, the Neuter become embroiled in a war that will last for hundreds of years, bringing great triumphs and tragedies as the free peoples of the world fight for their very existence. The reader will encounter polka-dotted elves, cross-dressing gods, and rodents possessed by malevolent spirits, but these will all somehow seem strangely familiar... A WORD ABOUT TOLKIEN'S SILMARILLION: Compiled posthumously by his son after Tolkien's death, The Silmarillion (1977) is a collection of stories and 'legends' concerning the First Age of Middle-earth, preceding by thousands of years the action that takes place in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The book primarily concerns itself with the origins of elves, dwarves, men, and monsters, explores the nature of good and evil, temptation and greed, and the ever-present sense of loss that is the centerpiece of all Tolkien's fiction. The book is written in a quasi-King James biblical style - and therefore easily lends itself to modern notions of satire and parody!
Customer Reviews:
Silly Sillymarillion!.......2006-11-27
Well, unlike "Bored of the Rings," this book is newly written. It doesn't suffer from the dated terms and humor of the former and the author is very creative with the jokes and twisted words he uses to make this an intelligent at times but generally silly parody of the original work. Again, if you don't mind a little fun being poked at a literary classic, this book will give you a few smiles and maybe even some full on laughter.
I rate this work as first rate for the type of work it is (parody). Can't think of much that could have been done better with it.
The First Age Was Never So Fun!.......2004-10-16
DR Lloyd has followed in the footsteps of the Harvard Lampoon's "Bored of the Rings" with a delightful, if dense, retelling of the Silmarillion. This book is really only for die-hard Tolkien fans, but if you are up for it you will not be disappointed.
The best part of Lloyd's work is in "re-imagining" (as Tim Burton might say) the endless parade of elf and mortal names, god and goddesses, rivers, lakes and streams... on and on with great results. Enter, if you dare, the evil world of Mostgoth and his minions, the irks... Join Cootiegerm and Curad as they struggle to regain the prized creation of their father, the Siliputi... and laugh all the way.
This parody isn't as good as Bored of the Rings, but it stands by itself as a loving tribute of a Tolkien nerd to the Professor (who undoubtedly would not approve!).
Book Description
For the first time ever, veteran World War II cryptographer Hervie Haufler details how American and British codebreakers were the decisive factor in the Allied victory. From the Purple Machine to the Navajo Talkers to the breaking of Japan's JN-25 Naval Code to the shadowy world of decoding units like Hut-8 in Bletchley Park, he shows how crucial information-often obtained by surreptitious and violent means-was the decisive edge in the Battle of Britain, at Midway and against the U-Boats in the North Atlantic, and how Allied intelligence saved the Soviet Union from almost certain defeat.
In an accessible account based on years of research, interviews and exclusive access to previously top-secret archives, Haufler demonstrates how cryptography enabled Nimitz and MacArthur to persevere in the Pacific and helped Eisenhower and Patton mount the assaults on Normandy. In compelling detail, Haufler shows us how it was done-as only one who was on the frontlines of the "secret war" could tell it.
Customer Reviews:
Haufler v. Keegan.......2004-02-17
It is ironic that Hervie Haufler's book, "Codebreakers' Victory," was published at the same time that John Keegan's book, "Intelligence in War" came out. In the first sentence of his book, Keegan, an otherwise astute observer of military affairs, asks "How useful is intelligence in war?" Keegan's answer is, not very useful. He should have read Haufler. Though it contains only a little primary research, Haufler's compilation from solid sources collected over his lifetime is a major contribution to the study of intelligence during World War II. For battle after battle, on every front of the war, Haufler makes a solid case that intelligence has made a difference-in many cases a significant difference. It is unfortunate that Haufler is less well known than Keegan. I fear it may cause some to overlook Haufler's valuable book. It should not. Haufler writes in an easily readable style (in contrast to Keegan), and recognizes that, while intelligence may not win a battle or a war, it can make all the difference. Prior to this book, those interested in the role of intelligence in WWII would have needed to consult scores of books and articles to get this same picture. Haufler has done that work for us and has collected from the best the information in this volume. It needs noting that he does contribute some important primary research in the form of interviews with several WWII cryptanalysts. Haufler's only hyperbole is contained in his sub-title--"How the Allied Cryptographers Won World War II". That, one can hope, was added by his publishers and not by him.
Book Description
This book provides an introduction to, and critical review of, the competing models that have been developed to explain long-term and large-scale economic change. An acquaintance with these models is necessary for an understanding of the processes that produced the foundations for the modern pattern of global production and distribution. Drawing examples from European and Asian history in the early modern period, the author presents an accessible and nontechnical exposition that will be invaluable to students of economic history.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.
Customer Reviews:
Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
Through a close reading of Sophocles’ Ajax, Descartes’ Discourse on Method, and Plato's Meno, Davis argues that ancient tragedy and modern science are alternative responses to the human longing for autonomy or striving to be a god.
Tragic heroes assume that through politics they can exert more control over the world than the world will allow. To them the whole world is politics, or polis. Scientists seek to control by mastering nature, which, in essence, means to transform the whole of the world into a Polis. Thus the issues and motivations in modern science were already present in ancient tragedy.
