Excellent guide for any Controller.......2005-07-13
ANy Controller will benefit from this well written, very comprehensive guide.
Not worth that much !.......2000-05-25
I am disappointed about this book. The book is basically written for students who know little about the business/accounting functions. I found the contents are not deep enough, at least not for veterans or accountants. Therefore, if you want a thorough knowledge of the controllership, this is not the one you should read. Try others.
Valueable Reference.......1999-12-02
A very practical book for doing controller function in a small-to-large size organization. A good recommended book for controllers.

Book Description

Book Description
Ya. B. Zeldovich was most assuredly one of the greatest physicists and cosmologists of the 20th century. This volume presents reminiscences about this exemplary academician, providing biographical and historical insights from the friends, students, and colleagues who knew him best. They outline Zeldovich's life and achievements, from his early days in chemical physics through his groundbreaking work in combustion and detonation, his role in the development of Soviet nuclear and thermonuclear weapons, and his contributions to nuclear and elementary particle physics, to his later years in cosmology and astrophysics. Zeldovich: Reminiscences not only pays homage to an outstanding scientist and his accomplishments. It also offers incisive commentary on Soviet science and the impact that Zeldovich had on future generations, in the former Soviet Union and throughout the international physics community.

The game continues........2007-06-08
Dunk Hoffnung, with the Bad Bay Hackers, returns for a starring role in Book Two of the Blood Bowl Trilogy.
Without enough teammates to continue playing the sport of Blood Bowl, Coach Pegleg's team sets sail for Far Albion. Spike! Magazine sends reporter Lästiges Weibchen with them to make a documentary of anything special that may occur; after all, chaos just seems to follow this particular team around more than any other. Pegleg wants to hunt down the location of the legendary Far Albion Cup trophy and retrieve it in hopes that the myth surrounding it is true. The legend states that the team with this cup in its possession will be unbeatable.
Olsen Merlin (an elf) is a former team wizard of the Notting Knights. His own fate is linked with the Far Albion Cup, so of course Olsen steps forward to help the Hackers get the cup. While doing so, Dunk and the (few) teammates left run into trouble. Bandits, a diseased cult, and even a treeman (which are all but extinct) are just the beginning of the mess the legendary cup gets them into.
***** Not as many Blood Bowl games in this, the second book of the trilogy, than the first. However, author Matt Forbeck keeps things entertaining with his twisted imagination, funny dialogue, and lots of action. I can hardly wait to dive into the third installment. BRAVO! *****

A stellar ending to the trilogy!.......2007-06-08
The evil sorcerer, Schlechter Zauberer, has managed to steal the Chaos Cup from the current winning team. Unfortunately for the team members, they noticed the sorcerer and tried to stop him; thus the team exists no more. The huge Chaos Cup may be a trophy made from what appears to be skulls, but it is also so much more. By possessing it, Zauberer has unlimited dark magic. And Zauberer has plans of vengeance on Blood Bowl player Dunk Hoffnung (with the Bad Bay Hackers). To ensure no one kills Dunk before he does, Zauberer lets everyone knows that anyone that harms even a hair on Dunk's head will be immediately executed by black lightning. It does not take long to make everyone believe it either!
Captain Pegleg is thrilled by the easy touchdowns. The fans and advertisers are not. Since Pegleg will not allow Dunk to sit out of the games, Dunk does everything he can to make sure no one is stupid enough to get near him. (Because we all know that Pegleg makes sure Dunk has the ball constantly.) But it is all about to come to a head when Zauberer zaps the entire stadium of the final Blood Bowl game to the demonic realm. Dunk and the rest of the Bad Bay Hackers must play not only to win the championship, but also to keep the entire kingdom from the Blood God's grasp.
***** Author Matt Forbeck does an outstanding job bringing all his characters to vivid, breathing, heart beating life. This includes the undead characters! Listening to Bob Bifford (vampire) and Jim Johnson (ogre) narrating all the Blood Bowl games are some of the best sections of the entire trilogy. The sport of Blood Bowl has often been described as "nearly-organized chaos" by its many critics; they are right on target too. Here, in book three, readers learn all about the backgrounds of Dunk and Pegleg. The author throws in some surprising characters as well. Very highly recommended. *****

Nigh Unreadable.......2007-08-10
I play a lot of BloodBowl. I run a local league. I go to tourneys. I play online. Everyone I talked to who had read this book (or any in the series) said it was awful. I wasn t ready to pass judgement. The game is intended to be light-hearted, very tongue in cheek fantasy sports action. Kinda hard to screw that up.
So I got a copy of this book for free at a Games Workshop sponsored event (even signed). And I read it. Or at least tried to. It was every bit as awful as I had heard and worse.
The writing is amateurish at best. The story horrid. The pacing terrible. Everything about the book is abominable.
Now, mind you, gamers hate this book. Gamers are used to the very low standard of mass produced GW fluff books, WotC D&D campaign setting hacks
and a thousand poorly conceived Star Wars/Trek pastiches. To turn them off takes a powerfully bad book.
Do not buy this book. Seriously.
The ultimate game........2007-06-05
Welcome to a twisted fantasy world where humans, elves, goblins, ogres and all other species work out their aggressions on the football field instead of the battlefield. It is called BLOOD BOWL! (Actually, the sport began under a different name, but everyone just began calling the sport after the most important match, Blood Bowl.) In this game, it is only cheating if you get caught or forget to bribe the referee (or the other team's bribe is higher). Murder happens in almost every game and only illegal in rare instances. In fact, murder and maiming is encouraged!
Dunkel "Dunk" Hoffnung grew up in Altdorf, the capital city of the Empire, in a privileged home. Things went down hill when his family fell from grace. Dunk's luck begins to change when a halfling, Slick Fullbelly, sees him bring down a chimera with a spear from a hundred paces. Turns out that Slick is a talent scout for the Bad Bay Hackers. It is not long before Dunk finds himself trying out for the position of back-up thrower. Dunk also comes face-to-face with his brother, Dirk. The brothers have not seen each other in over three years.
Dirk is now the Reikland Reavers' team captain. After three years on the Reavers' team, Dirk has become wealthy and famous. But the reunion is anything but sweet for the brothers. They must settle their differences, on and off the field. Once done, being brothers does not mean going easy on each other whenever they are on the field. Dirk's lovely teammate, Spinne Schönheit, almost succeeds in killing Dunk, even though she and Dunk had recently become lovers. And Dunk has made the tiny best friends list of a huge ogre named M'Grash K'Thragsh, his team's best blitzer. Good thing too, because in the game of Blood Bowl, anything goes!
***** Matt Forbeck's name will forever be linked to the game of Blood Bowl. In fact, this title (the first of a series) probably made the author's career. Personally, I am not a football fan, but I am now a die-hard Blood Bowl fanatic and can hardly wait to begin the next book of the series. I never dreamed a ball could have spikes or be hidden in chests that could explode in your face. This game is full of violent carnage, a lot of fun, and highly recommended! *****

Fun, but lacking funny.......2007-02-02
This was a pretty fun book, with non-stop action and blood bowl hijinks...which is what you are looking for, right? But I was hoping for a little more humor. This is definately not Terry Pratchett.
Enjoyable drivel for fans of the game........2006-06-09
I saw one reviewer lay down five stars for this title. Unbelievable. This book written specifically for fans of the Games Workshop universe and for lovers of the game Blood Bowl, in particular. For everyone else it's a two or three-star read at best.
That's not to say the book is completely awful. The writer does a pretty good job of capturing the essence of the game (which has been adequately described in other reviews) and working it into a story line. However, he sometimes reaches too far for the NFL puns. For instance, the main character plays for the Bad Bay Hackers whose colors happen to be green and yellow (sound familiar?). That's swell. But check out this bit of dialogue from when he first meets the team:
"The first mate welcomed Dunk and Slick aboard as they led their mounts up the gangplank. 'The name is Cavre,' he said, pronouncing it 'carve.'"
Okay, I get it, he's punning on Brett Favre's name. Everybody in the American sports world has made a crack about Favre's name at some point. The difference is that anyone who isn't hung over from too many pints of grog would know you can't hear spelling. How would Dunk know it's spelled Cavre when the guy didn't pronounce it that way?
It's a silly error, and it's not the only one. Black Library, the press title under which all the GW fiction is published, is also notorious for poor editing, and this book is no exception.
Having taken a lead pipe to the kneecaps of this book, I will say that I enjoyed it as a pulp piece written for a particular fantasy niche market.
Enjoyable.......2006-05-10
I purchase this book, on a whim by the cover, actually by the cover of book two, because the store I wokr at, did not have book one in stock, and i had to order it in. I did not know it was a board game or anything, I liked because I like football, and fantasy books, and the cover reminded me of one of my old favorite video games, Mutant League Football(was on Genesis they also had a hockey game, put out by EA sports in the early 90's).
I enjoyed this book for what it is, a farce, and thats all it needed to be. I also enjoyed book two: dead ball, and can't wait to read book three, because that is now also available to finish the trilogy. Good fun, on the gridiron in the realm of fantasy.

Tactical Tracking Operations.......2006-08-22
I had read Scott-Donelan's book seven years ago and had went through his tracking class with a friend from my police department back in 1999. So I got to be trained and met David and two of his instructors. I absolutely loved Scott-Donelan's booked and recommend it to anyone going to do tactical tracking. It was well put together with good stories of Scott-Donelan's time in combat in Rhodesia. I have read several other tracking books and this is probably the best in tactical tracking. I am a member of the tracking team for the Washoe County Search and Rescue team in Nevada and had to purchase this book because I had lent my other book out and never got it back. Great book as far as I'm concerned.
Valid, to the point manual on Tracking.......2006-08-03
Scott-Donelan writes a good book on tracking. He points out at the beginning that other books (such as Jack Kearney's) are a fine supplement and details HOW and WHY his book is written. The chapters are concise, accurate when it comes to the subject matter and VERY instructive. The one detractor in these Reviews indicates a collection of 'self-congratulating' ware stories. Didn't see it, read it, find it. There are discussions of requirements, techniques, cautions and equipment. Methodology, outlook or attitude and results are discussed. Good book. Won't replace actual training but that is stated at the beginning. Worth the read.
Top Rate, Good Content.......2002-08-30
I found this book to be very helpful. We use this as a text book for advanced tracking in our Search and Rescue team.
I have enjoyed the opportunity to take several classes with the author of this book. I suggest that this is a must read book for any tracking operation. I find myself reviewing this book frequently.
THE BEST OF THE BEST.......2001-07-30
David Scott-Donelan is a dear friend of mine. I am a member of Vietnam Veterans of America and Veterans of Foreign Wars. David spent approximately 30 years as a combat tracker, trainer, and officer in charge of training the most elite fighting force the world has ever known. His book is a Bible for Military Personnel who will need Tracking Skills, Law Enforcement people, and Corrections Department People who will have to track and apprehend DANGEROUS armed fugitives. It is not for the meek of heart to read this book. To do what Capt David Scott-Donelan did in Southern Africa for 30 years requires skills that few men in the history of mankind ever possessed. Yet a more gentle and friendly a person you will never find anywhere. If you want to know about serious combat tracking, read the book, and try to get your department to send you to his Tracking School. It will be money worth spent. It will save your life by using the most aggressive tracking methods
ever developed in history by the man who wrote the history!
Surprisingly little tracking information for a tracking book.......2001-06-15
I bought this after a Search and Rescue mission, hoping to get an insight on tracking subjects that may be avoiding the search teams.
The author spends over half the already short text on either self-congratulatory war stories or "my favorite gun" weapon reviews. The latter in fact are so totally subjective as to be essentially useless. (As a side note, it was the only time in my life I've EVER heard the Mini-14 referred to as having "excellent accuracy")
This book is a definite pass. After a quick skim, I sent it straight back to Amazon to get Jack Kearney's "Tracking, a blueprint for learning how."

Outstanding Reference Source.......2000-03-30
This tome is exhaustive in the diseases it covers and the way it covers them. Kiple provides epidemiological patterns, history and geography, and skeletal manifestations on each of the conditions he and the board of editors describes. What the book lacks in pictures and diagrams, it makes up for in length and completeness of description. A helpful bibliography is provided. This book is well worth the price!

Book Description
The high-tech paradise just north of San Francisco, known as the Redwood Empire, was once a land of vineyards, chicken ranches, orchards, and dairies. Using their own words and vintage photographs, here are the stories of the areaís residents and their 100 years of history, from the lost glitter of the Gold Rush to end of World War II. ÝÝThe stories recalled here come from the reflections of the people who kept their towns and farms running on a daily basis. Among the voices heard in these chapters are Healdsburgís Ferguson family, pioneer survivors of the westward trail, and David Wharff, who brought the first chickens to Sonoma County, helping create the Worldís Egg Basket. Through the great Santa Rosa earthquake of 1906, to the devastating flu epidemic of World War I, to the Santa Rosa-Petaluma ìBig Gameî riot of 1943, these diary, interview, and newspaper accounts cover a century of rich history in the Redwood Empire.
