Customer Reviews:
great book for amateurs.......2002-07-31
This book is thorough. It is well written, easy to follow, and loaded with information. Unfortunately, all you see here is an abbreviated table of contents which is 8.5 pages in the actual book. I feel that when I finish reading it, I will have a good fundamental base of knowledge to invest in stocks, whether it is a bull or a bear market or anything in between. Because of the amount of information here, it is a real confidence building book, for me who likes have some idea of what I'm doing before I do it. It is the best book I've found so far on investing in stocks.

Customer Reviews:
A Wonderful Book for Blending Spirituality & Money!.......2003-08-17
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Dr. Mitz's manual and following the principles contained within. The book is written in an easy-to-read, clear and understandable format, and the author lays out 9 steps to follow to heal your relationship with money from a spiritual perspective. I have read many prosperity books, and this is one of my favorites. It covers important aspects of receiving wealth through spiritual means, and offers practical steps one can take to be more prosperous. Highly recommended!
Simple and Straightforward........2003-08-07
Deceptively simple, but contains very effective and sound ideas. So easy to follow that one would not believe these 9 keys can really work. What he says about the 10%, affirmations, visualization, etc., is consistent with so many other writers on the subject of prosperity. But, Dr. Mitz puts it in a manner that is easly incorporated into even the busiest lifestyle. He does not overwhelm you as some properity writers do. I have been reading prosperity books for over 20 years and I HIGHLY recommend this simple little book. Fun and easy to read, and fun and easy to follow.
Opening the doors to financial freedom.......2001-06-06
After reading the Soulful Money Manual I reevaluated my relationship with the support system in my life, money. By following the nine keys I did become at peace with money and how I earn it. Dr. Richard Mitz has done us a great service by taking the experiences of his life and devising an inspiriring approach to functioning at the highest level possible in relationship with money. I would highly recommend using the keys in the book to turn your life into greater prosperity, happiness and peace not only with money but with every aspect of your life.

Book Description
Changes in banking and securities regulation in many countries since 1980 have allowed banks to expand their range of financial services far beyond mere lending -- an opportunity banks have been eager to grasp. This business development entails a responsibility of offering informed advice on the choices that customers must make. If we are to judge by a steadily increasing stream of lawsuits, as well as the clear results of customer surveys, most banks fail this part of the challenge.
Should the law intervene? That is the basic question posed by this important book. In examining and evaluating the complex answer, and its critical implications for the banking industry, the author uses a comparison of legal systems, developments, and events in two major banking jurisdictions, England and Germany. He investigates the relations in each system between the relevant legal rules and actual business practices in order to analyze such issues as the following:
+ The adequacy of current legal concepts defining a bank's duties with regard to financial advice; + `Mis-selling' of financial products; + The socio-economic context of the bank/customer relationship; + Governmental regulation and supervision; + The English and German Ombudsman schemes; and + Potential new statutory provisions setting standards for providers of financial services.
Banks as Financial Advisers contributes significantly to the development of practical solutions to a serious problem in today's banking business practice. Banks and their counsel, financial regulatory officials, and other financial services professionals will find it of great value. Useful appendices contain all relevant English and German statutory provisions in force at the time of publication.

Tortilla Flat Meets Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: a first novel about America's working class from a founder of Razorcake.
Customer Reviews:
What a great book!.......2005-06-30
I have the pleasure of telling you that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I've owned for it about a year but just never got around to reading it. I finally decided last week that it was time to read and I ended up plowing through it and finished it in two days. I'm now here at Amazon to buy his other books that are available.
Wonderful writing combines with great characters and an interesting plot. Definitely worth your time!
Outstanding Book by an Outstanding Author.......2000-06-14
When I picked up the book, I had no idea of the content. A friend had recommended this book, so I gave it a try. I could not put it down, once I started. The characters and related stories seemed so real to me, that I felt I knew both Sean and his friends by the time I had finished the book. I was not prepared for the ending, which made the book even better. I have shared this book with friends of all ages, and everyone gave it a 5 star rating. If you are looking for a unique story, this is it!
A book for all.......2000-05-10
where to begin...for the lucky readers, Sean Carswell weaves an intricate, interesting, and humourus tale of small-town, working class America. Not only is the book great, but Sean is great too. I had the priviledge of being one of the first people to read and review his book and since page one i have loved it. i immeadiately reccommended it to my friends and they enjoyed it as well. Reading this book will make your day!
Terrific working class tragi-comedy!.......2000-03-31
If you're wondering who to compare Sean Carswell to, forget it. I've owned this novel for six months and read it three times already. He has his own voice, and it's a strong, authentic one that anybody who works for a living, who gets dirt under his nails, will recognize. There is mystery to this story, but it isn't a mystery novel. It's a novel that finds a new way to explore the problem of the gap between the have and the have-nots. If you're part of the latter, this novel is your patron saint. If you're part of the former, stop burying your head in the sand, read this book, and see how the other half live. It's a serious novel that doesn't take itself too seriously, and you never go more than a few pages without a good laugh. I can't recommend it highly enough. It has a spot on my shelf between Kerouac and Solzhenitsyn. I can't wait for his second novel!
Book Description
The hair-raising rescue missions of a deep-sea salvage tug that saved hundreds of lives during two decades of service in the North Atlantic.
Customer Reviews:
A can't put down book.......2007-05-17
I think this is a great book, and would highly recommend it for anyone. And it is a must read for anyone that likes stories about boats and the ocean.
You won't believe it's the truth........2007-02-11
This is my favourite Mowatt! It's a shame more people don't know of this one. If you liked "The Perfect Storm" at all, then this story is for you. The life of a tug on the East coast of Canada, told by one of Canada's best story tellers. You can hear the wind, feel the weather and can only admire the ship and people who do the impossible with such regularity. There's the injustice of the 'owners' and the frailty of the 'casualties' and a good deal of humour to balance everthing out. A true story (mostly), it cronicles a time on the East coast and in Canada when the old world had to give way to the new and what we lost in moving forward. Wonderful.
Foundation Franklin: The Salvage Tug Sans Peur.......2005-12-24
As a sea officer, I learned about salvage tugs, the men who man them and the ships they've saved from stories told around the dinner table in the officers' saloon and in bars around the world. You just pray you and your ship will never have need of their services.
There are many deep-ocean tugs whose names are well known in the maritime community, but Foundation Franklin was the queen of her kind. In ten words or less, if you were in trouble and she got a line on you, chances were you'd make it home. From a seafarer, there is no higher praise.
Farley Mowat tells her story, from her owners acquiring her as Royal Navy surplus in 1919 until she was laid up for the last time, with loving attention to detail. He writes of her missions, from the comparatively mundane to the incredibly dangerous, in such a way that you feel the deck moving under your feet and the cold North Atlantic spray lashing your face. He puts you squarely in the middle of the action. True, the finer points will be best appreciated by those of us who make or have made our living on the deep blue, but the writing is so rich even landsmen and armchair sailors will understand and come to respect the intrepidity of the deep ocean salvage men. That's reason enough to read this book.
But more to the point, Mowat manages to convey to his readers the pride that sailors feel when some of their own pull off a difficult mission. He chronicles a little known and unappreciated chapter of the Second World War: the Merchant Mariners who faced the perils of U-Boats, bomber attacks and of course the ordinary hazards of foul weather sailing; and who, by getting the cargo through, enabled the armed forces to win the war against the Nazis. After reading the book, you will understand why we feel reassured by the knowledge that Foundation Franklin's bell still hangs in the offices of her salvage company - and that when they ring the bell to tell her successors that there is a ship out there in trouble and to get a move on, there are still brave men to answer her call.
Tug Salvage at its Best.......2003-01-26
This tale of the Foundation Franklin and her crew is a must read for any tugboat lover.
boring for the landsmen.......2002-12-06
The repitition of storms and salvage can be boring unless you have experienced the storm at sea or been savaged by weather. A warm and dry reader might not ever appreciate what the FOUNDATION FRANKLIN and her crew went through. The North Atlantic in winter is a death trap for any weakness in a vessel and this book pays tribute to those who time and time again risked their lives in salvage and rescue. A must read for anyone who knows the sea.

Primary Sources is an interesting/refreshing approach to history.......2007-10-06
It is nice to see history through the eyes of the people who lived it. I prefer the personal touch of primary sources to traditionally dry textbook accounts.
I don't think it is a book designed to teach history by itself, but should be used in conjunction with lectures/discussions with the professor (as Perry Rogers PhD does in his classes).
Rogers is an historian, not a politician. The beauty of Rogers' approach is that he allows his readers MAKE UP THEIR OWN MINDS by giving us competing ideas from many points of view.
[I used Randall W Smith's review to help me in my review, some direct quotes]
A helpful primary source textbook.......2003-10-28
In my AP European History class, I not only used this book, but had the author as my teacher. Overall, I found the book to be generally enjoyable and easy to read; I even brought it with me to college, heavily highlighted and full of notes, and have actually used it as reference for several class projects (and I attend an engineering school). While some sections of it I consider to be dryer than others, I believe that had more to do with my lack of interest in particular topics than it did the material itself. The chapter introductions and timelines put the material in a good historical context, and the study questions are good food for thought (and helpful for preparing for the AP exam -- in my experience, standardised test questions are seldom worse than anything Perry Rogers can think up). I think it was a great textbook that I would definitely recommend.
Dr. Perry Rogers, Did he skip High School?.......2003-10-07
I Fear this book may be the worst I have ever had the torture of reading. I was adviced to use this terible book in my history class, but after I read it over I would not subject my students to this even if I hated them. Roger's collection of facts and quotes are in some ways intellectual but when he attempts to connect things together with his owns words he destroys everything. Nothing he says seems to make sense, he tends to be all over the page and too opinionated. I am strongly agaisnt the banning of books but for the good of mankind I beg you to extinct this work of crap by Perry Rogers.
A window into the minds that shaped the world........2003-06-26
As a high school teacher, I find Rodger's book a wonderful resource for helping students to see history through the eyes of the people who lived it. The books allow students to get acquainted with historical debates from which we can simulate them in the classroom. Students consistently report that they prefer the personal touch of primary sources to traditionally dry textbook accounts. After finding so much utility in them, I was somewhat surprised to see Rogers chided by so many reviewers. I noticed two dominant themes in these criticisms that warrant attention.
First, that "It's boring & confusing": This assertion reminds me of freshmen whose eyes glaze over when reading anything that contains anything with multiple syllables. Rogers' thesis is that history can only be made intelligible by studying the ideas of the people who shaped it. Those unaccustomed or disinclined from engaging with viewpoints other than their own would naturally take umbrage with his approach. Furthermore, one should not assume that one's own difficulties of understanding are necessarily symptomatic of defects on the part of the author. Serious reading takes time and patience.
Those who can discern no logic to the organization of the collection need only assemble a fuller concept of the history before attempting it. Rogers posits history as a debate between differing points of view. The outcomes of these debates become the dominant institutions and beliefs that define the events of any given period. His selections help us to see that process, from the horse's mouth as they say...
Second, that "Rogers is a Marxist": It is disheartening to see that readers lay the faults of communism on Rogers' doorstep. While certainly one is entitled to despise alternatives to capitalism, one cannot justly dispute that the activities of its opponents have done much to shape history, for good or ill. Rogers is an historian, not a politician. The beauty of Rogers' approach is that he allows his readers MAKE UP THEIR OWN MINDS by giving us competing ideas from many points of view. Of course if a free marketplace of ideas is repugnant to you, it would best to confine yourself to a diet of historical fiction, propaganda and your own writing. After all, wasn't politicizing history the worst mistake Marx ever made?
Loving Perry Rogers.......2003-06-17
While I have had the magnificent ability to have this man as a teacher, I found this book to be incredibly stifling. The contents often made little or no sense and had to be deciphered by the students. The book often seems loosely put together, as if there was no actual intellect used to produce it - as if the book was only published to be published and there is no other reason it should be available to the public. I do not advise anyone to read this book unless you absolutely must. This man obviously has a Napolean complex, and any further production of his books must be immediately halted.
