I feel the authors have covered the topic well. As a read, I thought the text was written as good as an accounting can be.

The problem I shared with my classmates is that there was difficulty completing the exercises at the ends of the chapters. We feel maybe two reasons for this: first, the problems often could not be solved without looking forward to the chapters not yet covered; and second, specific details needed to solve problems were either not there or organized in an unfamiliar way. This required asking many questions with the instructor and classmates to try to complete the exercises.

Overall, though, I suppose this is on par with other texts on the topic. The book we liked the best was "Accounting: what the numbers mean" as it was written & organized very well; and the exercises were very effective.

This book presents a series of dynamic models of the term structure of interest rates, covering both theory and estimation in a unified framework. Special emphasis is placed on models which are driven by innovations that have a Gaussian mixture distribution. These models are able to flexibly capture the observed non-normality in the distribution of bond yields. It is shown that the theoretical models can easily be cast into the statistical state space form, which provides a convenient framework for statistical inference. An application to US data illustrates the properties of the models and shows the estimation techniques at work.

This balanced analysis presents news from the ‘climate-protection front’. On the down-side, neither the current 'Kyoto-Protocol' Climate Protection System with (legally binding) commitments by major countries to reduce or limit their greenhouse gas emissions nor various proposals for improving the commitment system are capable of meeting the ultimate objective 'to prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system'. On the up-side, by implementing the GCCS, it appears that the ultimate climate protection objective quoted can be achieved, that developing and newly industrialized countries can be integrated into the protection system by installing a 'fair system' based on the democratic principle of 'one man – one climate emission right', and that no industrialized nation nor its consumers of fossil fuels will be overburdened. Just like all proposed climate-protection schemes, extremely high hurdles will have to be overcome when implementing the GCCS. However, thanks to its important merits and its structural elements, there exists still a small chance that mankind will manage to prevent dangerous climate change.

Oh, These Times& (1772) is a satirical attack on many vices Catherine wished to root out from her society: religious hypocrisy, superstition and slander. The main character, Mrs. Pious, is a superficially religious old woman who resembles Moliere's Tartuffe.
Catherine again sets her sights on superstition in The Siberian Shaman (1786), this time by satirizing shamanism as a deceitful profession which preys on the gullible. This play was part of a group of three plays usually known as Catherine's "anti-masonic" trilogy, written as a warning against the growing influence of the freemasons.
In a comprehensive introduction, Lurana Donnels O'Malley relates the plays to Catherine's status and philosophy.

Dore does it again!.......1998-07-06

Beautiful, lyrical,and sensuous images from the Crusades.I am enraprured by the scope,graphic power and compositional greatness of this largely forgotten artist. Though we may look at the politics of the Crusades differently than the Victorians, this book is sure to please any fan of 19th century art. One look at Dore and you see where Cecil B. Demille got much of his inspiration.
