Book Description
An investor's survival guide to avoiding costly dangers in today's uncertain markets
That the "bubble burst" in 2000 is really a misnomer. The fall of the markets actually marked a seldom-seen--but always dangerous--triple waterfall. In The New Reality of Wall Street, Donald Coxe--a huge name in institutional investment circles--provides shaky investors with the reassuring knowledge and guidance they need to recoup recent investment losses, and weather a financial storm that is still far from over.
While Coxe warns that the third leg of the triple waterfall is still alive, he shows there are profits to be made. The New Reality of Wall Street tells investors where to look--and what to look for--to invest profitably despite the prevailing doom and gloom as it discusses:
- How to understand and profit from the triple waterfall phenomenon
- What the fall of the dollar means to future investors
- Which direction inflation should turn, and why

A Welcome Contrarian View, But Supported Only By Hot Air.......2005-08-28
"New Reality of Wall Street" is an oddly assembled book with some flashes of insight. Although Mr. Coxe has a lively writing style, the substance and weight of his assertions often leans towards what is colloquially referred to as "bull". The novice will find much to be confused about. The keen skeptic will have much to be skeptical about. And the expert will find nothing new.
The book starts out in the style of a wilderness survival guide. This would suggest the book is meant for novice investors. And this is supported by his diversions to explain concepts such as risk premium and bond duration. But he also delves into detailed discussion regarding foreign currencies without explanation of currency mechanisms. For example, he explains that Japan, as an enormous creditor to the USA, must print large amounts of Yen to "absorb" the inflow of Dollars. A novice who does not understand central banking mechanisms is left without so much as a trail of popcorn to figure out why or how this is. So while Mr. Coxe spends too many pages on basic principles for this to be an expert investor's book, he entirely skips vital concepts for this to be a novice's book.
Even if one does understand everything that is said in these pages, there are other thematic problems. He makes numerous creative assertions regarding the causality of certain economic events, but does not offer any supporting logical arguments or empirical evidence. (Contrast this with writers such as Robert Shiller or Marc Faber who do not require you to take their statements at faith, but instead support their assertions with data.) Most often, his arguments are based on political opinions and platitudes. If you do not accept his political opinions, you may find it difficult to accept many of his explanations or conclusions. It's not that his political opinions are unusual as much as his opinions display a disconcerting tendency to confuse fact with opinion or logic with data. For example, in one instance he simply states without further elaboration that democracy is superior to communism as a matter of logical fact. While most readers would agree that historical evidence supports the superiority of democratic style governments, to state that this is a result of deductive reasoning is be ignorant or confused. Faith is required in reading this book. Ironically, he spends considerable effort explaining why you should never accept Wall Street recommendations on faith.
Finally, although some of his assertions may seem bold for those who do not regularly read beyond mainstream financial magazines, his investing recommendations betray any uniqueness. His recommendation is simply to diversify broadly among stocks, bonds, and cash.
Although I happen to agree with much that he writes about, I am left feeling that this is nothing more than a very long elaboration of a poolside conversation over beer. It may be enjoyable and you may be nodding your head in agreement often, but unlike what the title suggests, there is nothing substantial, concrete, or convincing. Marc Faber's "Tomorrow's Gold", although slightly dated, is a far superior treatment with similar conclusions and more daring recommendations.
I think its about India and China mostly.......2005-08-24
I didn't find this book particularly helpful in terms of investing. I think most people know that India and China have become more capatilistic, in a purely relative sense, and that they will be needing to build roads, indoor plumbing, etc. Coxe seems to be a genius in his other writings and has a weekly conference available on line. This book just struck out for me.
Big Picture view of global markets.......2004-01-04
This book is explains the Big Picture of global markets and how an individual investor can use a broader understanding of markets to manage a personal investment portfolio. The survival analogy really works for me. It is his ability to explain the patterns underlying the day to day activities of the stock markets which sets Mr. Coxe apart from other investment writers I have read. The first chapters are about crashes and Triple Waterfalls, and he provides the historical context for the Nasdaq's crash. It was eerie and sobering to see how precisely we mimicked the behavior of investors in other eras. However the chapters I found most interesting were dealing with the US Dollar, Gold and the Eurodollar. I can't wait for his next book!
Macro analysis.......2003-07-10
While the author from NV makes a point about the Harris Insight yearly underperformance, Mr. Coxe's performance has beaten the SP over the last three years by 680 basis points annualized.
This is a superior book, because of the style of thinking. Typical investors, like the individual from NV, or the herd, think in a conformed fashion and Mr. Coxe takes us out of the conformity and allows us independent thought.
He also does a great job explaining what external influences on the market are, the important roles they play( things like eurodollars, central banks, world economies, etc.), and what happens when markets go down or sideways for an extended period of time.
I would recommend this book if you are looking for a good macro overview of markets and the major players. It is not nor meant to be a technical indicator or timing book, and indeed while there will be major trading rallies of 50%, the chances are very strong that we continue to remain in a "generational" bear market. One that could last a decade or more if history is correct. And one that will ultimately decimate Mr NV and the herd again at the proper time and place. For as we all know the market exists to make the majority of the people wrong the majority of the time.
If you are looking to think like everyone else, then there are other books you should be reading.
Author's Fund 1 Yr Performance: -29.6%; Flawed Outlook.......2003-06-23
While not a complete waste of money (like Mark Douglas' books), the author has little credibility writing a book when his one year performance in his Harris Insight Equity fund (4/1/02-3/31/03) was MINUS 29.6%. Notable flaws are the author's assumption that the exploding latin population will assimilate into the general population as the Italians and Irish did over a century ago and help the economy (Hey Donald Coxe, check out current crisis condition of California). Another flaw is his stubborn refusal to see the current bear market as largely UNfinished and more like the Great Depression than the milder 73-74 bear. And, since he only knows how to push mutual funds (he manages one), forget about any info on options. Options and the leverage they empower the average investor with is the ONLY realistic way to make up for past market losses. Try Sy Harding's book (for overall market knowledge), Charles Caes' "Tools of the Bear" (for options education), and John Murphy's "Charting Made Easy" (to learn technical analysis).

If You Live in Britain.......2000-06-20
While the author did present good sound background and structure to understanding the angel financing market, I wish I had known beforehand that much of the information was based on experiences in Britain, not the U.S. I would not have purchased this book -- especially at its price. Many of the tables and references were in pounds, not dollars, and entities British, which required translation. I just couldn't relate beyond the basics. Sorry. Not my cup of tea!

Required reading for entrepreneurs and private investors.......1998-04-07
This book illuminates the vital role played by Business Angels in today's venture capital markets. I think writing style is as important as content when you are addressing a professional audience. This book gets A+ on both counts. The Informal Venture Capital Market by Moore and Coveney should be required reading for entrepreneurs and private investors. William E. for the low 700's.......2000-03-27
This book is not so indepth like the Barrons where you are swamped with useless grammer. If you have an ok grasp of English and wish to go for a low 700, then this book is perfect. I read through it and recieved a 710.
The practice tests in this book gave me a good workout........1999-05-05
Principles are taught with practice afterward. There are five complete practice tests provided. There appear to be some errors in the book and the paper is the cheap stuff. This book is consumable if you work all the tests and write essays in it as I did. I took the test last weekend and I felt confident afterward, though I haven't gotten my score yet.
Long, but worth it!.......1999-01-24
This is a must for anyone preparing to take this writing test. The sample essay questions and multiple-choice practice in this book are very good. They certainly helped me when test day came! However, Kaplan uses alot of drilling to reinforce what you've learned in the book, and the book is quite thick, filled with plenty of questions to work on, so this is not the book for the crammer.

Book Description
For their monumental work on the unification of the electromagnetic and weak-nuclear forces, Abdus Salam, Sheldon Glashow, and Steven Weinberg received the 1979 Nobel Prize in Physics. That unification the discovery that the two forces are manifestations of a single combined force represents an important step toward the superunification of all the four forces in nature: the electromagnetic, weak-nuclear, strong-nuclear, and gravitational forces; in other words, the Theory of Everything. In this edited collection, David Cline, distinguished UCLA physicist, brings together for the first time the scientific papers that trace the Nobel award-winning discovery of the electro-weak force. Cline sets the stage for each of the eight sections of papers with an introduction that puts the papers in historical and scientific perspective. This book should prove useful for both graduate students and professionals in high-energy and particle physics, and in cosmology. The book includes seminal papers by Benvenuti, Cline, Galison, Higgs, Langacker, Mann, Rubbia, among others.

The Dangerous Book for Boys
ASIN: 0967544807 |
Book Description
Stolen From Gypsies is a Shakespeare-meets-Monty Python historical comedy by award winning playwright Noble Smith. A bedridden English lord narrates a magical tale to his story-loving servanta tale involving a kidnapped Gypsy babe, a tongue-tied accountant, a rich merchant, the merchant's ravishing daughter; magicians, spells, contracts in blood; pirates, rubes, fops, purloined estates; demons, transformations, duels, carnal temptations, imprisonment and redemption. It is illustrated with twenty beautiful pen and ink drawings. A fascinating glossary of words and personages from the era is also included.
Customer Reviews:
Gypsy Moth.......2007-08-28
At the beginning of this semi-mythological adventure tale, the narrator Ambrogio instructs his servant Antonio to imagine himself as a gypsy moth, observing the action as it unfolds. At the end of the story, a gypsy moth signals the protagonist, Godfrey, as to how to elude the machinations of the devil, to whom he has unwittingly sold his soul. Stolen from Gypsies is a joyous romp from start to finish, a sort of fractured fairy tale for adults, with all the traditional elements. Poor boy loves rich girl, she doesn't know he's alive, he becomes transformed after a magical encounter, the magician is not who he seems, and neither is the aptly named Dim Avenger, a soft hearted Robin Hood clone. The evil uncle, the clever servant, the Shakespearean identity confusion, the sea battle. It's all here, all wrapped up in a hilarious, farcical tale within a tale. As Godfrey learns and grows, so does Ambrosio. Thoroughly enjoyable, lighthearted, endlessly witty entertainment, sharp as the sword of the podesta's pasty and villanous son.
Funny, Clever, Delightful.......2006-12-11
Noble Smith's Stolen from Gypsies is a delight from start to finish. Smith is a storyteller extraordinaire and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a break from reality, but doesn't want to leave his brain behind in the process. Clever, ribald, side-splittingly funny and glossary-dependent, Stolen from Gypsies will warm your cockles and tickle your wit. Do not read while your partner is sleeping- laughing out loud with abandon is the only way to read it- otherwise, constipated mirth may result in the need for one of the story's famed beet enemas.
Perfect gift for your 14 year old boy .......2006-06-09
Plot stolen from the classics with 279 pages of farts and nose-picking.
The Gypsy In All Of Us.......2002-01-08
A completely first-rate novel, sublime in richly historical hysterical characterizations. In his first novel, Noble Smith fashions a completely original story-within-a-story. The subject, a smart and thumping love story which leaves you both wildly entertained, expanded in your vocabulary, and just a little more informed about the wild turns of history which by only the smallest chance may have turned out quite different for all of us.
Smith's 'Gypsy' character breathes hope into our sometimes gray hearts that we all have, deep inside of us, an erudite, bold gypsy inner-being longing to break free from the humps which define us to sing our passions to the world. The story is told smartly through a decrepit writer-in-exile's re-telling of this fantastic story to his servant. With joy we watch the transformation both he and his main character makes throughout the book, tying up spectacularly in the end.
Stolen By Gypsies is a read which will keep you on the edge of your seat, as empassioned as the Gypsy character who is striving to become his complete self. Highly recommended reading. Waiting anxiously for his next novel.
A Literary Farce For Sunday Reading!.......2001-07-17
From the first page, the reader is yanked into a comical world filled with mistaken identities, wordplay, and love. The sparring duet of Ambrogio and his servant Antonio reminds me of the early works of Mel Brooks and Mark Twain. The banter and dialogue these two commit are only a part of the wonderful world in which Mr. Smith creates. Then comes the characters in the tale the sickly (only in his own mind) Ambrogio tells to the mindless Antonio (whose only fault with the whole tale is that it's lacking alot of detailed sex!) For a harden fiction reader, this book offers humor, adventure, romance, and a range of characters which the reader hopes Mr. Noble Smith will pursue further in another book. The only fault I found with this funny and fast-paced novel was it's length-too short! All the characters from "The Dim Avenger" to "Drapslod" have been fleshed out into bonafide 3-D people. A remarkable and pleasant change from our modern day fiction writers! I eagerly await the next adventure of the hypochondriac and his sex starved servant!

Book Description
Boeing's mighty B-52 Stratofortress has seen continuous operational service with the United States Air Force since the type was introduced in 1957. The aircraft has been upgraded several times and has assumed many different new roles since it was originally conceived and then provided the key airborne platform for America's strategic nuclear force. It is predicted that it will serve as a front-line aircraft until 2040.
Apart from the formidable threat it provided during the long years of the 'Cold War', the aircraft has played a significant part in all US overseas operations since Vietnam. The more recent include Desert Storm in 1991, the Balkan conflict, Afghanistan and the liberation of Iraq. Over 700 were built and around 80 remain in service.
This book includes chapters on Concept Requirement, Design and Development, Production, Evolution and Variant Models, Operational Tasking, Operational History (with first-hand accounts from crews), Weapons and Equipment Carried, Flying the Aircraft and Current Service Operations.
t will be highly illustrated with many original shots taken aboard B-52s, together with archive material and also color profiles.

Very comprehensive history of B-52.......2007-06-27
This book is one of the most comprehensive B-52 books I have seen. A lot of never-before seen pictures and very comprehensive history of the B-52's role in Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Good for the novice or expert.......2006-08-26
I liked this book because it delivers a good balance of old information, along with new and up to date info on current B-52 combat operations. The author also provided some rare pictures that I found interesting. Good job!

It's been updated numerous times over the decades, and chapters follow its evolving design, concept, different models, and history, including source material accounts from pilots and military men who flew the plane in battles. Accompany the history and battle survey are many original photos taken aboard B-52 during a recent visit by the author to their American base, with details on production versions polished models.

Book Description
The French Revolution opened a whole new stage in the history of women, despite their conspicuous absence from the playbill. The coming century would see women's subordination to men codified in all manner of new laws and rules; and yet the period would also witness the birth of feminism, the unprecedented emergence of women as a collective force in the political arena. The fourth volume in this world-acclaimed series covers the distance between these two poles, between the French Revolution and World War I. It gives us a vibrant picture of a bourgeois century, dynamic and expansive, in which the role of woman in the home was stressed more and more, even as the economic pressures and opportunities of the industrial revolution drew her out of the house; in which woman's growing role in the family as the center of all morals and virtues pressed her into public service to fight social ills.
