Excellent Investment Advice!.......2007-01-18

The advice in this book has stood the test of time and is still relevant and well worth following. A must for experience and novice investors a like.

Neither comprehensive nor detailed........2006-07-07

As a stock market novice, I found this book relatively useless, as it assumes the reader is already familiar with esoteric terms, and already understands concepts like selling short; but the book doesn't treat any topics in depth, either, so there's certainly no comprehensive education here. Rather, the text consists of a series of short, 1 to 2 page chapters, each an essay covering a basic idea - like "buy low, sell high," - many of them redundant, many just plain common sense, so it's probably not much use to a very experienced trader, either. I think I will appreciate the book much more at an intermediate level, when I can understand what the author's talking about, and compare it to my own practices and ideas.

I did learn what PEG ratio is and how to use it - but for more information like that I had look for another book. Unfortunately, this one doesn't really have a recipe for HOW bulls make money, but maybe I'm just a pig anyway. But I've found much more useful information in Investor's Business Daily and in "CNBC 24/7 Trading: Around the Clock, Around the World," though it's focused on foreign stocks.

Constant Reminders.......2005-08-03

I've read this book 5 times now and keep it by my bed for some last-minute reading each night. The chapters are 1 or 2 page gems of advice and will make sense to the beginner and professional alike, especially if you've already done the opposite of what's in here.

How to not be a pig!.......2005-04-13

This is a nice little book written by a savvy investor who has a strong proven track record over the decades. It's mainly written for the small investors and new participants who are eager to learn about the ways of the market, and as such, it truly provides a whole host of kernels of market wisdom.

The most part of the lessons and ideas in this book will seem like ad nauseam repeated old stuff. But it's really amazing how often individuals will tend to forget or even ignore the most fundamental of rules over the weeks, months and years (I know what I'm talking about, I'm one of them). As they say, your trading and investing skills are tested every day, so you really need constant reminding of some fundamental things. After all, every market participant is a never graduating student in the art of trading and investing, regardless of age or experience.

I just wish I had read this precious little book many years ago, when I first naïvely and overconfidently introduced myself to Mister Market. Who knows? Had I done so, maybe I would have paid less tuition to Him, and He would have made less fun of me throughout my first two trading years.

This book offers advice on what not to do, rather than what to do. I've always thought that first and foremost you have to learn what not to do (this may sound easy, but sometimes it can be really difficult), and only thereafter you can learn what to do. Throughout the book you find precious little gems that have really stood the test of time.

So go ahead, be whatever you want to be, a bull or a bear, but never, ever, be a pig! Be humble when you win and gracious when you lose!

To the curious minds of today and tomorrow:

This book is an advanced treatment of x-ray diffraction, which should adorn the bookshelves of x-ray diffractionists.

It is a pleasure to see that such a diffraction classic is very affordable, thanks to Dover Publications. It is a "best buy" indeed since it offers a lot of substance for its price.

The uninitiated reader in X-ray diffractometry should approach it with caution, however. It is by no means a textbook.

Those who have a well founded working knowledge in X-ray diffraction, on the other hand, may want to read this book because it elaborates the underlying principles with utmost rigour.

As such, I highly recommend this book.

A Classic..............2000-06-12

Well...this book is definitely a "must have" book on diffraction if you're interested in this field. Dr. Guiner,for those who are not familiar with diffraction, was one of the leading scientist in the field and contributed much to the development of x-ray diffractometry. The book is definitely not for the beginner. However, for someone who has made his/her initial steps into the world of x-ray crystallography, this book might be rewarding to read for it discusses the fundamentals rigorously. The book is very affordable as well, making it a very attractive buy indeed...I highly recommend it.

Dissociative recombination plays an important and often dominant role in many low to moderate temperature plasmas found in planetary ionospheres, the interstellar medium, fusion devices, laboratory experiments, and the region near reentry vehicle heat shields. The process has been studied for over 50 years but many of its mechanisms and those of competing processes have only been elucidated recently. Indeed, the study of dissociative recombination has been a challenge for both experimentalists and theoreticians and many areas of modern chemical physics have been employed to unlock its secrets.

Dissociative Recombination of Molecular Ions with Electrons is a comprehensive collection of refereed papers describing the latest developments in dissociative recombination research. The papers are written by the leading researchers in the field. The topics covered include the use of microwave afterglows, merged beams and storage rings to measure rate coefficients and to identify the products and their yields. The molecules studied range in size from the smallest, H ₂ ⁺, to bovine insulin ions. The theoretical papers cover the important role of Rydberg states and the use of wave packets and quantum defect theory to deduce cross sections, rate constants and quantum yields. The Best Patch Book.......2007-03-21

I've used this book to put together my collection of WW2 patches, and I haven't found another book out there that comes close to the detail and informative value of this one. Nobody can know about every stitch of thread in the thousands of patches used by armed forces in WW2, but Brown comes as close as anybody. Plus, he tells you what he "doesn't" know--he's not like many armchair experts who think they know everything. The pictures work fine for the job, but they're not from an art studio--I couldn't have done my collection without Mr. Brown. Thanks!

For the collector of US Shoulder sleeve insignia of WWII.......2007-01-06

As a passionate collector of US Shoulder Sleeve Insignia of WWII for 20 years I find this book to be of value to all people who have an interest in our hobby whether novice or long time collectors. To encapsulate the very basic and understanding of collecting, manufacturing , pricing , terms , experiance, etc.., documenting and putting it into print using personal experiance adds value that all collectors would like to do with their patch collection. As with all printed matter there will always be critiscism of either errors or not enough information. I find this book to have a wealth of information that is well documented , researched and is an excellent guide to go by, especially for the novice and also experiance collecter alike-you cannot please every body all the time but you can please a lot of people most of the time. My only question mark are the quality of the photos , a more sharper photo would show the intricate weave better but if this is the only "?" this book stands in good order and is a must for the collector. I commend the author and would like to see more from Christopher P Brown.

Best book available on the subject, bar none!.......2003-08-05

This is an outstanding work. Lots of variations, values, rare types, all branches, etc. I have never found another like this. The information made available is wonderful and in many instances, the author reveals facts that are little-known, or in some cases, rights erroneous, generally accepted information. Gorgeous color plates, all original patches, etc. Many, I've never seen before. The most helpful is the info on how to determine authenticity. That alone is worth the read! Excellent, excellent book!

Not Really the reference I had hoped for.......2003-03-28

I bought this book with thinking it would be the end-all be-all on WWII patches. Well, it isn't unfortunately. While the presentation is really good, hardcover, colored pictures and all, the content is less than stellar. First of all, you will find that large gaps between patches/text and blank pages are evident that the author is trying to fill the book up. Many more patches/ variations should of been included to enhance the quality of this book. You are really getting less info than what you are lead to believe. The information is not that accurate either. For example, the author ID's the 108th Airborne Division as a "phantom" division when it was actually a postwar reserve unit. Another example is the assertion that the 18th Airborne Corps used to be designated the 18th Armored Corps which was never the case. One glaring omission was found in the text concerning using ultraviolet light to ID reproduction patches. The author says that no matter what, if a patch glows, it is a repro. For new collectors, this is a very misleading statement. If a patch is washed using laundry detergent, it WILL glow due to the detergents phosphorescent ingredients.

So, in the end, you have a book that is somewhat useful, but fails to deliver. Having been a patch collector for 23 years, I cannot recommend this book as a sole source...
