Great Introductory book to the world of espionage.......2006-02-28

The "Idiot's Guide" books have the worst name ever. If anyone spots you reading one of these bright orange tomes, they more than likely think you are an idiot.
That's really not the case with this book. The guide to Spies and Espionage is an amazing intro to the field of espionage and international spying. Everything is presented clearly and with proper writing style (not too playful, not too stiff). For those looking for tons of gadgets and movie-like action, you may be disappointed, as the book focuses more on the history of spying rather than the procedures and rules of the game. Thrilling missions and incidents are retold with detail, yet also they are very brief. The book seems to strike a perfect balance without getting bogged down at all. You can breeze through a few chapters in an hour and still learn a great deal.
Again, as I said, a great jumping off point for anyone interested in the field

Description:
The sensitizing effect of cetyltrimetrylammonium bromide (CTAB) microemulsion media on the determination of aluminium(III) by spectrofluorimetry was developed. The main factors affecting the determination were investigated in detail. The results showed that 8-hydroxyquinoline (HQ) react with aluminium(III) forming a complex with fluorescence in the system of potassium acid phthalate-NaOH buffer solution at pH 6.0, the maximum excitation and emission wavelengths are at 380.0 and 502.6nm, the sensitizing effect of CTAB microemulsion is higher than that of CTAB micelle. The proposed method has been applied to the determination of aluminium(III) in tap water and lake water samples with satisfactory results.

The application of micellar systems has been growing during the last years because of their importance in various practical situations. Continued development of their application is necessary. If the principal economic interest of microemulsions is for some time enhanced oil recovery, the following also have significant applications such as pharmaceutical preparations, painting, and products for engine lubrication. The effect of variation in composition of anionic surfactants (@a oleifin sulfonates) and the presence of a water-soluble charged polymer (Xanthan gum) and an uncharged polymer [poly (ethylene glycol)] on the phase behaviour of pseudo- ternary systems of water-oil surfactants was investigated. Several domains were observed when the composition of surfactants and cosurfactants (e.g., pentanol) in a mixture is varied. The appearance of these domains in the phase diagram has been attributed to the formation of different Winsor systems.
