Book Description

Techniques to use trading volume as an indicator of market direction

Trading on Volume is the first serious analysis of how to employ this accurate tool in today's fast-action trading environment. Specifically, it details how traders can pinpoint the rise, climax, and fall of the activity of market participants, and dramatically increase their opportunities to buy near stock or market bottoms and sell near tops.

Trading on Volume describes the basics of volume, discusses the value of behavioral science in understanding volume, and then provides actual, market-tested techniques and strategies. Longtime market analyst Don Cassidy presents specific techniques to use volume to trade more efficiently, including:

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Waste of money.......2006-12-12

I wish I could give it 0 stars. I read a few chapters and put it down. Its just blah blah blah with nothing helpful. Perhaps someone who knows nothing about the market may benefit but otherwise look elsewhere.

4 out of 5 stars Many interesting observations.......2006-08-20

One of the best is that Cassidy points out that the difference between the individual stock vs. the overal market and the sector are important. This may seem simplistic but I know many who do not buy best in their group and ignore this message that is droned in thru IBD and others. Here Cassidy shows how the volume should be corresponding, ie. porportional as most of the indices are made of the individuals on a percentage basis but when it's not, it hints that true buyers and sellers, not the ETFs and such are buying and selling...the invdividual stock not the index but I think more and more the ETF is getting the nod as more and more people are scared of inidivudla stock action...Cassidy helps there. Good luck, Remy.

1 out of 5 stars truly nothing.......2005-07-26

The whole book talks again and again about the same thing - the importance of trading volume - a concept that is appealing in itself - but all the way to the last page, the book is all fluff - there just ain't no substance!

1 out of 5 stars Nothing.......2004-06-02

The information in this book is very basic. It is not even worth reading.

1 out of 5 stars Not even rateble !.......2004-02-15

I wuold warmly suggest to spend 50 dollars in something else , the book is aimless , useless from the first page to last one .
No basic concept has explained about the volume , dynamic of volume and price . Clearly Mr. Cassidy is concerned about the volume of the sales of his book !

          Book Description

Many international forums have identified the need for comprehensive, scientific methods for the pre-release testing and post-release monitoring of transgenic plants to ensure their environmental safety and sustainable use. In response to this requirement, a GMO Guidelines Project was
established under the aegis of the International Organization for Biological Control, to develop biosafety testing guidleines for transgenic plants. This second folume focuses on transgenic cotton that is resistant to insect pests in Brazil and addresses both environmental and agricultural impacts.
It draws out some general risk assessment guidelines and demonstrates the need for case-by-case analysis.

                Book Description

The recent development of high power lasers, delivering femtosecond pulses of intensities up to 10 20 W/cm 2, has led to the discovery of new phenomena in laser interactions with matter. At these enormous laser intensities, atoms and molecules are exposed to extreme conditions and new phenomena occur, such as very rapid multiphoton ionization of the atomic system, the emission by these systems of very high order harmonics of the exciting laser light, the Coulomb explosion of molecules, and the acceleration of electrons close to the velocity of light. These phenomena generate new behaviour of bulk matter in intense laser fields, with great potential for wide ranging applications which include the study of ultra-fast process, the development of high-frequency lasers and the investigation of the properties of plasmas and condensed matter under extreme conditions of temperature and pressure. In particular, the concept of `fast ignitor' approach to inertial confinement fusion (I.C.F.) has been proposed, which is based on the separation of the compression and the ignition phases in laser-driven ICF.
The papers published in this book cover all the main aspects of laser interactions with atoms, solids and plasmas at high intensities. We hope that they will provide scientists from various disciplines with a comprehensive survey of the subject, and a self-contained source from which to pursue a systematic study of the field.

My point is whether you wish insight into the day-to-day conflict of business, or into current global trends, Sun-tzu is absolutely essential, and this well-written, well-edited book belongs in your library.

Published with permission, a review from Bob Spear, Heartland Reviews reads as follows: "As a retired military intelligence professional and conflict theorist, I must say this is the best interpretation of Sun Tzu's classic work I have read. The author focuses on the meanings behind this ancient Chinese war philosopher's writings. He puts them into a modern context, making them easy to understand. Apparently the Department of Defense agrees with me on this, since they have selected Mr. Cantrell's book as a text for the National War College in Washington DC. This is a must read for all military officers and business leaders. It rated a perfect five hearts."

Robert L. Cantrell's Understanding Sun Tzu On The Art Of War contains both the complete translated text of Sun Tzu's enduring classic on battle strategy, and a modern-day interpretation packed with advice on leadership, learning to keep one's intentions a secret from one's opponents, leveraging advantages as the key to victory, and a great deal more. An excellent resource for anyone seeking self-improvement through internalizing Sun Tzu's wisdom, Understanding Sun Tzu on the Art of War is thoughtful and thought-provoking reading of the highest order.

5 out of 5 stars Top notch publication.......2003-05-30

"Understanding Sun Tzu on The Art of War" is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the oldest military treatise in the history of the world. However, this book is much more than just the rehashing of old source material. Robert Cantrell's book delves into the material in a much more practical sense that lets the reader truly comprehend and utilize Sun Tzu's philosophy. Cantrell takes Sun Tzu's 2,500 year old philosophies and applies them to the 21st Century, using a contemporary voice that makes the Art of War much more accessible to today's reader. However, and very importantly, the book doesn't strip away Sun Tzu's words with modern terminology. This book manages to bring Sun Tzu into the 21st century without taking away his voice.

Reading Sun Tzu is a bit like reading Shakespeare. You can read it, but can you understand it? "Understanding Sun Tzu on the Art of War" allows you to fully appreciate and synthesize what Sun Tzu is all about.

If you are interested in Sun Tzu philosophy, or if you are interested in life strategies, Robert Cantrell's book is a must buy.

                5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Insights.......2003-04-22

This analysis of Sun Tzu is great for anyone who has read The Art of War -- years ago, or months ago -- and not fully understood it. It's great for those who do already understand it!

Robert Cantrell gets to the heart of Sun Tzu without "dumbing down" the text, and he makes the text useful and does not simply substitute business phrases for the original text, which I've seen in other Sun Tzu books. Mr. Cantrell has also included a full translation of the original text.

                I highly recommend this book.

                        Book Description

While the story of the big has often been told, the story of the small has not yet even been outlined. With Dust, Joseph Amato enthralls the reader with the first history of the small and the invisible. Dust is a poetic meditation on how dust has been experienced and the small has been imagined across the ages. Examining a thousand years of Western civilization--from the naturalism of medieval philosophy, to the artistry of the Renaissance, to the scientific and industrial revolutions, to the modern worlds of nanotechnology and viral diseases--Dust offers a savvy story of the genesis of the microcosm.
Dust, which fills the deepest recesses of space, pervades all earthly things. Throughout the ages it has been the smallest yet the most common element of everyday life. Of all small things, dust has been the most minute particulate the eye sees and the hand touches. Indeed, until this century, dust was simply accepted as a fundamental condition of life; like darkness, it marked the boundary between the seen and the unseen.
With the full advent of scientific discovery, technological innovation, and social control, dust has been partitioned, dissected, manipulated, and even invented. In place of traditional and generic dust, a highly diverse particulate has been discovered and examined. Like so much else that was once considered minute, dust has been magnified by the twentieth-century transformations of our conception of the small. These transformations--which took form in the laboratory through images of atoms, molecules, cells, and microbes--defined anew not only dust and the physical world but also the human body and mind. Amato dazzles the reader with his account of how this powerful microcosm challenges the imagination to grasp the magnitude of the small, and the infinity of the finite.

1 out of 5 stars Deceptive Title - "Dust" Will Leave You Sneezing & Wheezing.......2002-01-17

Warning - This book has very little to do with dust! Actually, with his book Dust - A History Of The Small & The Invisible Joseph Amato demonstrates an inability to focus on any one topic for more than a paragraph at a time and obfuscates what otherwise should have been a rich and interesting topic below a morass of historical anecdotes. I was thoroughly disappointed. Effective historians have a natural ability to absorb volumes of information, select those facts and events which are important, and weave them into a coherent, interesting narrative. While Mr. Amato's 41 pages of supporting notes and 15 page bibliography suggest that comprehensive research was performed on the topic, no amount of references or notes can make up for his failure to focus on important aspects of "Dust's" history and inability to create from them an interesting story. If you are looking for a rewarding, enlightening read, look elsewhere.

4 out of 5 stars Who Will Tremble at These Marvels?.......2001-07-31

This bright and sprightly stroll through the human relationship with the minute comes to a surprisingly dark conclusion.

Joseph Amato, Professor of Intellectual and Cultural History at a small college in southwestern Minnesota, tells an interesting, if familiar, tale. Dust was long defined by its occupation of the lowest position on the scale of the visible ('pollen' is the Latin word for 'dust'), and it symbolized insignificance and near-nothingness. Then came Western - now global - science. Dust became a multiform heap of material objects within a certain range of sizes ("With so much known about the invisible, dust can never again be ordinary," he writes), while at the same time ever more powerful instruments pushed ever further toward zero the notion of the infinitesimal. Meanwhile, civil authorities find themselves in a constant scramble to adapt to science's new insights into the implications for human well-being.

Prof. Amato is at his best in his survey of these societal responses to the news from the microcosm, and has interesting and upbeat things to say about the history of health, housekeeping, and hygiene. (He is much weaker on the scientific and intellectual side of things. I found particularly regrettable his neglect of Lovejoy's classic *The Great Chain of Being* - a work he cites in the notes but shows no sign of having assimilated.)

But the reader who arrives at the end of this brief volume is likely to be surprised at the author's take on the prospects of our increasing mastery of what is minute affecting our imaginative lives. In an essay written in the early twenties entitled "Subject-Matter of Poetry," Aldous Huxley expressed amazement that "The subject-matter of the new poetry remains the same as that of the old. The boundaries have not been extended. There would be real novelty in the new poetry if it had, for example, taken to itself any of the new ideas and astonishing facts with which the new science has endowed the modern world. There would be real novelty in it if it had worked out a satisfactory artistic method for dealing with abstractions. It has not." The concluding chapter of *Dust*, entitled "Who Will Tremble at These Marvels?" attempts to explain why not, and in doing so takes into a minor key what had till then seemed to be a work written in a major mode. This chapter, together with the touching ten-page memoir of his mother's relation to dust presented in an appendix, are the best things in the book.

5 out of 5 stars A strange and fascinating book.......2000-10-25

So much of our world's business energy and investment capital go into information technology and biotechnology, which are fields where most of the important technology is so small as to be invisible to normal human vision. Author Amato explores how the human drive to improve our lives and our world led us (from the 16th century on) to see, measure, manipulate and control ever smaller particles and entities. The mysteries of dust, and then germs, then atoms, and now subatomic particles, viruses and prions, one by one "bit the dust" as they were revealed by this compelling quest. Bearing an amazing array of facts and stories (like the best musty and dusty library stacks I remember from college) as well as an approach both philisophic and humane, Amamto is an entertaining guide on this journey from bulbonic plague to Hoover vacuums to semiconductor plant clean rooms. I think his book helps explain the deep hopes and fears (and the high market valuations) our age invests in our interaction with unseen.

5 out of 5 stars Ashes to Ashes, Kudos to Dust.......2000-04-07

Did you know that each year 332 tons of dust falls on every square mile of Los Angeles? Or that more than twice this amount (782 tons) falls on every square mile of Chicago during the same period? Dust: A History of the Small and the Invisible is chockful of such arcana!

Don't get the wrong impression, though. This book is anything but a dry treatise detailing the amount of dust hovering above and raining down over all of us, all we see. The role dust played in humankind's reaction to various airborne diseases (prior to the acceptance of the germ theory at the beginning of the twentieth century) is but one of the many polymathic delights awaiting a reader of this fine book.

A friend lent me a copy of this book to read while I was on vacation recently, and I liked it so much that I just HAD to get a copy for myself. I highly, highly, highly recommend this book!
