Customer Reviews:
Good comprehensive book.......2001-04-11
I would have given full praises for this excellent writing. It did help me to understand better the subjects in my degree courses. The explainations are clear and direct with interesting colourful examples. 'Feature story' on the start of each chapter section give an insight for real world examples and 'Accounting in action' do explore the critical thinking on the issue. 'Review It' and 'Do It' sections help the students to test their understanding before reading on further. Exercises and cases at the end of each chapter will enhance students' learning and knowledge abilities. My lecturer highly recommends this book since it is comprehensive and the illustrations give better pictures about the whole chapter. Since this book also includes theoretical aspect of accounting, it is excellent as a basic for students who would like to learn the accounting principles.
Accouting Principles-too much text and not enough examples.......1999-08-17
This is a 27 chapter 1200+ page textbook. The main problem with this book is that there are plenty of questions at the end of each chapter, but there is no way to check your answers. There isn't even a book to buy in addition to this one that allows the answers to be reviewed. This in my opinion makes this a HORRIBLE text to learn from.
Good Textbook but too many errors for a 5th edition.......1999-08-16
This Textbook is a good teaching book, if the instructor isalso good. The drawback of this book is it overcomplicates severalareas and has the chapters set up in a bad order. The the biggest thing wrong with this book is it has several errors in the book and even more in the working papers. The book does however make a good introduction of accounting and covers the subject well.
This book really helps students learn accounting........1998-06-12
The authors of this book take a lot of care in anticipating where students will have trouble understanding the accounting concepts. They use many examples and worked out problems as well as real companies which can help you see what is happening in the real world of accounting. The book is full of pictures, illustrations and lots of color.
GREAT BOOK FOR LEARNING GAAP FUNDAMENTALS.......1997-02-12
This book gives clear insite to the accounting cycle. Clear illustrations of accounting procedures make this the book helpfull to students developing accounting skills. I would recomend that all accounting proffesors to consider Kieso's boo
Product Description
The events of September 11, 2001 forever changed the dynamics of importing or exporting products into the United States. This privilege, which can be revoked for non-compliance, has been made dramatically more complex and expensive by the numerous new rules, regulations, laws and requirements of various agencies. Procurers of foreign merchandise have had to revisit current U.S. Customs rules and regulations, reevaluate their companys existing import procedures, and consider further stabilizing and strengthening their Customs compliance.
Global Sourcing & Purchasing Post 9/11 provides sound and innovative purchasing, logistics and supply chain management techniques for acquiring customers, increasing competitive advantage, reducing costs, and improving end-to-end supply chain performance while ensuring required compliance.
Key Features:
Provides comprehensive importer and foreign entity guidelines for achieving cost savings, improving delivery turnaround time, securing compliance, building product classifications and optimizing trade for reduced or eliminated duties
Explains how to set up a purchasing cost analysis program for quick evaluation and obtain cost savings via currency hedging and a forward currency contract, and provides activity-based costing information to help firms manage and benchmark logistics costs
Discusses various levels of automation, from document imaging to full automation of the compliance process, including how RFID smart labels can improve your supply chain, and presents innovative ways of achieving JIT inventory for imported merchandise
Covers global e-sourcing systems, applications, processes, and best supply chain practices as well as new electronic procurement standardizations to analyze requirements, identify gaps and improve the interoperability of Internet-based e-procurement systems
Reviews compliance with post 9/11 customs and security requirements for global trade and outlines processes and time lines for ready-to-market regulated product registrations
Offers downloadable slides that provide a high-level overview of the importance of an integrated logistics compliance system, a U.S. Customs 2005 Harmonized Tariff Schedule and a list of helpful websites for regulatory product information and government forms required for U.S. clearance
Customer Reviews:
Highly Recommended for Businesses Interested In Global Sourcing.......2006-03-27
This book would be a valuable resource for businesses seeking a good discussion of global sourcing and purchasing issues in today's environment. Written by three authors with significant practical experience in the global sourcing of goods ranging from raw materials to equipment and pharmaceuticals, the authors provide a well-organized examination of the many issues involved in global sourcing and purchasing.
This book has several major strengths. The authors' principal message comes through very clearly: it takes careful planning to make global sourcing a success, especially in the post-9/11 era. The methodology employed by the authors is also very effective-they walk the reader through the issues from the point of view of a typical manager, and provide concrete examples of the issues that the manager will likely face in the importing process.
Of course, compliance and logistical factors in the global sourcing environment are the major focus of the book, especially emphasizing the changed nature of this environment in the post-9/11 world. Individual chapters focus on topics such as transportation, US Customs issues, other U.S. government agency regulations applicable to imports and, of course, the security issues which have received so much attention since the events of 9/11. The book contains a good discussion of these issues and the main players that are involved in each area.
In addition, the authors do a very good job of challenging the manager to think through the involvement of the many internal players in the company -from legal department to marketing-which will have an important role to play if the global sourcing process is to be successful. The book also has a strong focus on controlling the costs and fees through proper planning.
Finally, recommendations are also included regarding methods to ensure that the company's planning and compliance processes remain up to date.
In terms of possible improvements to this book, several of the chapters would benefit by the inclusion of specific references to key internet resources. Several chapters do already include a number of website references, and additional internet sources are listed in material made available through the publisher's website listed at the end of each chapter. However, a more consistent referencing of key websites within the text of each chapter might be a valuable addition.
Definitive Advice for Global Sourcing.......2006-01-10
This book is the most comprehensive text I have seen for sourcing professionals, who must deal on a global basis. The authors have used their extensive experiences and offer sound advice on how to cope with all of the changes brought on by the 9-11 events - across a variety of industries. Using many case examples and first-hnd experiences, they describe in a step-by-step manner what is involved in not just getting the best global prices, but how to make certain the goods are shipped in a timely and high quality manner. Moving product across borders has never been easy, but this book offers a current view and solid techniques for optimizing such efforts. It is recommended reading for any buyer seeking global sources without the grief associated with entering into such territory.
A Definitive Work on a Critical Business Topic..........2005-09-23
"The subject of importing or exporting products into the United States is a highly-complex topic, sometimes handed off to outside third-parties to advise and manage. And yet, this area is so fundamental to the well-being of many companies that it deserves to be better understood by your own organization, regardless of whether you employ third-party help or not. Just consider this: failure to comply with the relevant laws and regulations can result in your company's trade privileges being revoked - dramatically affecting your ability to conduct business.
"Global Sourcing and Purchasing Post 9/11 is the definitive work on this subject, covering the topic comprehensively and in an easy-to-understand manner. The authors clearly demonstrate their extensive depth of expertise in this field. This book is a must-read not only for import/export professionals, but also procurement/supply management professionals, and other professionals seeking to understand this complex and vital area."

Book Description
For civil rights lawyers who toiled through the 1980s in the increasingly barren fields of race and sex discrimination law, the approval of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990 by a nearly unanimous U.S. House and Senate and a Republican President seemed almost fantastic. Within five years of the Act's effective date, however, observers were warning of an unfolding assault on the ADA by federal judges, the media, and other national opinion-makers. A year after the Supreme Court issued a trio of decisions in the summer of 1999 sharply limiting the ADA's reach, another decision invalidated an entire title of the act as it applied to the states. By this time, disability activists and disability rights lawyers were speaking openly of a backlash against the ADA.
What happened, why did it happen, and what can we learn from the patterns of public, media, and judicial response to the ADA that emerged in the 1990s? In this book, a distinguished group of disability activists, disability rights lawyers, social scientists and humanities scholars grapple with these questions. Taken together, these essays construct and illustrate a new and powerful theoretical model of sociolegal change and retrenchment that can inform both the conceptual and theoretical work of scholars and the day-to-day practice of social justice activists.
Contributors include Lennard J. Davis, Matthew Diller, Harlan Hahn, Linda Hamilton Krieger, Vicki A. Laden, Stephen L. Percy, Marta Russell, and Gregory Schwartz.
Backlash Against the ADA will interest disability rights activists, lawyers, law students and legal scholars interested in social justice and social change movements, and students and scholars in disability studies, political science, media studies, American studies, social movement theory, and legal history.
Linda Hamilton Krieger is Professor of Law, University of California School of Law, Berkeley.

Troubleshooting HPLC Systems: A Bench Manual, by Sadek.......2001-09-30
I thought that this was an excellent book. It provided lots of the practical kind of details that I was looking for. This book is great for someone who has either limited or no experience in HPLC. It would also work as a refresher, for someone who has been out of the field for some time.

Book Description
This Elibron Classics book is a reprint of a 1888 edition by Bernhard Tauchnitz, Leipzig.
Book Description
In college and high school classrooms across the United States, students display a keen interest in knowing more about what they rightly sense was a pivotal event in the recent past, one that brought a sea change in the life of the nation.
In a long-awaited alternative to the lengthy and overly expensive texts on the Vietnam War, Charles Neu presents America's Lost War, a balanced, lively narrative account of that tragic conflict, one that sweeps across the whole time-span of the war and explores American, Vietnamese, and international perspectives. Recreating the physical and psychological landscape of the war, Neu fluidly describes policy disputesamong leaders of both the United States and North Vietnamas well as individual policy makers, battles, and military realities, tracing the legacy of the "Vietnam" phenomenon that shapes American domestic politics and elections, as well as foreign relations, to the present day. 320 pages. Includes Maps, Three Photographic Essays, A Guide to Acronyms, Bibliographical Essay, and Index.
Customer Reviews:
Outstanding summation of the war.......2006-08-31
An objective, succinct and fair summation of the war in Vietnam as experienced from all sides. Neu uses numerous books as a reference for quotations from many of those in power during this difficult time for America - and for Vietnam.
The book also has many photographs leading up to and during the war, including some of the most famous images of that terrible time: the street execution of a Viet Cong officer by the South Vietnamese Police Chief, and the villagers running from a napalm strike (accidentally dropped by a South Vietnamese aircraft).
I am pleased to add my comments to the review by Dick Stratton. I flew F-4's for the Marine Corps in Vietnam in 1968/69, but fortunately did not experience the horror of the Hoa Lo prison as did he.
A Look at the Vietnam War Without Agenda or Bias.......2005-01-23
In his "Preface and Acknowledgements" Professor Neu mentions the fact that Vietnam Veterans were invited to lecture at his Brown University undergraduate class: "History 158: America's Longest War: The United States in Vietnam".
I was one of those veterans participating 1991 to 1993 at a University noted for it's anti-war activies and the expulsion of the ROTC from its campus. I was never advised on what to say, how to say it or what not to say. I was given an entire session to tell my story as a participant in the war and a prisoner or war. I was treated by student and faculty alike with intersest, courtesy and respect.
This illustration of inclusiveness and even-handedness is important in understanding the value of this volume. As in the classroom so too in this volume, all sides of the story of the Vietnam War have been presented: South Vietnamese, North Vietnamese, military, politicians, anti-war activitists and the media all have equal time in having their positions presented.
This book will be an excellent tool for use in the classroom and in the professional library of all who participated in or lived through the Vietnam era. Of particular value is the "Biographical Essay" at the end of the book. Additionally it just a plain 'good read' for all.

Book Description
"The red man's on the warpath! The Time has come for him to dig up the hatchet and join his paleface brother in his fight to make the world safe for the sacred cause of freedom and democracy."--Winnipeg Free Press, May 1941
During the Second World War, thousands of First Nations people joined in the national crusade to defend freedom and democracy. High rates of Native enlistment and public demonstrations of patriotism encouraged Canadians to re-examine the roles and status of Native people in Canadian society. The Red Man's on the Warpath explores how wartime symbolism and imagery propelled the "Indian problem" onto the national agenda, and why assimilation remained the goal of post-war Canadian Indian policy--even though the war required that it be rationalized in new ways.
The word "Indian" conjured up a complex framework of visual imagery, stereotypes, and assumptions that enabled English Canadians to explain the place of First Nations people in the national story. Sheffield examines how First Nations people were discussed in both the administrative and public realms. Drawing upon an impressive array of archival records, newspapers, and popular magazines, he tracks continuities and changes in the image of the "Indian" before, during, and immediately after the Second World War.
Informed by current academic debates and theoretical perspectives, this book will interest scholars in the fields of Native-Newcomer and race relations, war and society, communications studies, and post-Confederation Canadian history. Sheffield's lively style makes it accessible to a broader readership.
