Makes o-chem interesting!.......2004-06-23

Bailey's Organic Chemistry allowed me to relearn the subject before taking a major pre-professional exam. The text was interesting and clear enough that it can be read as a novel, as opposed to quick reference (although it works in this latter respect as well). If you're the type of student who requires context to clarify the sometimes arcane world of lines and arrows that makes up organic chemistry, Bailey's does the trick.

The book may not be in-depth enough for advanced chemistry study -- for instance, the treatment of macromolecules and biochemistry near the end barely scratches the surface, and has a last-minute tacked-on feel to it -- but as a refresher course or a basic introduction, no book I know of equals this one.

Have a shot of Bailey's (textbook) and enjoy learning o-chem!

This Book is really good to teach in college.

It has many examples and explanations.

But it is hard to study for beginners.

It doesn not have many answers for questions.

So it is hardly possible to solve them.

If that can be revised the book will be one of bests.

..for someone who knows the authors.. For who do not, the book is both synthetic and detailed, with easily understandable explanations on the physics of magnetism and useful examples of applications, in a whole range of geologic situations.

I realize that anyone sufficiently intrigued by the title so as to open the cover of Golf Balls Are Female has probably already conjured up some ideas as to its contents. To end the suspense, I will tell you that Golf Balls Are Female is simply about the three greatest pleasures in a manÂ's lifeÂ—drinking, golf, and the OU-Texas football game. Unfortunately, life requires a lot of living in between these most gratifying of pursuits, so Golf Balls Are Female is also about public humiliation, immaturity, emotional desperation, broken engagements, deceit, stupidity, sexually transmitted diseases, cybersex, lovesick lunacy, divorce, one-night stands, heartache, and partaking of the worldÂ's oldest profession. Although there are numerous incidents that stretch to the limits of plausibility, the book is based on real life stories. In fact, bona fide concerns about personal retaliation have convinced me to actually leave out some of the more incriminating details. Some readers may find our humor irreverent, others may deem our lifestyles to border on misogynistic, both would be correct. However, those that read beyond the outrageous behavior will find that Golf Balls Are Female is really about friendship. Most importantly, this book answers one of modern manÂ's most enduring questionsÂ—golf balls are definitely female!

yes, three great pleasures...and maybe more.......2006-12-23

It has been a while since I read this book, but much of the humor has stayed with me. I wrote about it previously (maybe for the author) and mentioned that while it is a laugh out loud tome on almost all things male, it is notably free of flatulence. Most "guy books" about drinking, whoring, and football would have some mention of the inevitable outcome of too many beers, too much bad food, and a total lack of manners.
In the end, this is something of a love story, a story about strong male bonds and friendship. I won't ruin the ending for those who plan to purchase this literary masterpiece, but suffice it to say that the book ultimately shows itself to be something of a paean to a lost friend and to days gone by.
It is, also, the book that will get Bob fired...

A wonderful collection for Churchill specialists.......1998-01-08

Never Surrender is yet another volume in what already is the longest biography in the world. (At least according to the good people at the guiness book of world records. ) It is a collection of all the speeches and papers of Winston Churchill during the most critical phase of his Prime Ministry, and perhaps the most critical phase of World War Two. In this volume we get to witness Churchill's reaction to Dunkirk, the fall of France, and the Battle of Britain, and we also get to witness Churchill's heroic response to them. In this volume we see Churchill at his absolute best.

The offical biography is written by Martin Gilbert, a task he assumed after Randolf, Winston Churchill's son, died. The bigraphy consists of eight biographic volumes, and each volume has a few volumes of relevant documents to support it. Never Surrender is one of the document volumes which support the biographic volume "Finest Hour: 1939-1941" which is perhaps the finest volume of the entire biography. With all biogrphic volumes and the supporting books, The entire biography now stands at 23 volumes. Roughly 7-10 more are expected.

Never Surrender is probably the finest supporting volume of the entire set. It covers possibly the most important moment in British history, and it is a fine read in itself thanks to the usual outstanding work of Gilbert. The book is not for everyone, only those well versed in Churchill lore, and also keep in mind the book is not a narrative, but more like a collection of letters. But to anyone truly interested in Chuchill, or this era of English history, the book is nearly a must-have.

This a rounded portrait of a scientific career and of nineteenth century science. Dubos traces the threads of Pasteur's research, shows his inspiration & practical skill, & shows the limitations imposed by time & place. The whole is readable & well oranized.

This book is not an autobiography.......1999-04-21

This is a book that praises Pasteur, but has no order to the presentation of either his life or his work. One word can sum it up: disorganized. There are many better bios available of Pasteur.
